Introducing the Reverend Doctor Ronald S. Okrasinski

As you are aware by now, we will have an interim Rector starting February 2. We are fortunate to find an interim this quickly and especially one with all the attributes Ron brings.

On his resume he stated his objective as being “Interim Rector of a parish seeking a pastoral ministry, especially where there are needs for meaningful sacramental liturgy and Christ centered preaching, educational leadership, experienced pastoral care, effective administration and strong development of lay ministry.” I believe this covers all our needs at our parishes.

Ron was ordained a deacon in the Roman Catholic Church in July of 1966 and was received into the Episcopal Church as a deacon in February of 1980, and then ordained a priest in June of 1980.

Ron lives in Colonial Beach, where he served St. Mary’s Church for 33 years. While there he developed a unique beachfront ministry for teens, initiated and completed major improvements to all parish buildings, revitalized a total education program and established an on-going visitation program.

Most recently, he has served as interim Rector at Trinity Church in Fredericksburg.

Our agreement with Ron is that he will be working at our parishes half-time. His schedule will be different each week as the needs for his time evolve. We will not see him in the office on Fridays as he will be doing his volunteer work at the National Cathedral in Washington. He has been volunteering there for several years and finds it to be a very rewarding experience.

Ron has extensive experience in the support and counseling of individuals and families in long-term as well as crisis situation. He has received special training in conflict management, marital problems and coping with feelings. He feels that an attentive and sensitive hospital and shut-in visiting practice is very important.

Please stop by and meet Ron when you have a chance. His office hours will be like the antique shop who states that they are open by chance or by appointment. This situation may change as Ron gets into a regular routine. As for now, he will have to test the waters and see what is needed and when it is needed.

Looking Ahead In 2015, SMWC held the Fall Festival of Music with Spencer and Beane. The concert was so successful, bringing in a packed house from the community, that the vestry has decided to have a series of concerts in 2016. Our first date will be March 20, and the group will be the youth orchestra – Short Pump Symphonette. They are a well-known group in the Richmond area conducted by William Raposo, the award-winning concertmaster of the Richmond Philharmonic.

Our second concert will be MSG Blues who will be playing on June 12. Many of you will remember this group from their concerts at Belle Isle and Morattico Museum. Weather permitting, this will be an outside concert at the Labyrinth.

We are working on third concert for September and should have that date soon.

Our final group will be Festival Musicians, who will be playing for us on Christmas Eve as part of the 5:30 p.m. service.

We believe this will be a series of great opportunities for not only our parishioners but also for the community. Mark your calendars to save the dates.

MEALS ON WHEELS

Many thanks to all who signed up so quickly for St. Mary’s Whitechapel Meals on Wheels deliveries in January. This is a vital service to our community, one that is quietly performed, and seldom recognized.

Trinity is scheduled for April Meals on Wheels deliveries. Again, many thanks!
