1 g June 2019 THE GANDHI CENTRE THE HAGUE Parkstraat 99 (First floor), 2514 JH, DEN HAAG The Gandhi Centre was set up on 2nd October, 2011 with primary objective of establishing, reviving and strengthening the cultural relations between India and Netherlands. The ICCR has set up such 35 Indian cultural centres in different parts of the world. The objective of the Gandhi Centre is to promote awareness of India's composite cultural heritage in The Netherlands. The activities of the cultural centre include showcasing various art forms of India such as dance, drama, music, films and free classes for the public and organising lectures, talks, panel discussions and seminars on subjects related to India. The Gandhi cultural centre functions under the Embassy of India and is established by the ICCR.

Parkstraat 99 (First floor), 2514 JH, DEN HAAG

The Gandhi Centre was set up on 2nd October, 2011 with primary objective of establishing,

reviving and strengthening the cultural relations between India and Netherlands. The ICCR

has set up such 35 Indian cultural centres in different parts of the world.

The objective of the Gandhi Centre is to promote awareness of India's composite

cultural heritage in The Netherlands. The activities of the cultural centre include

showcasing various art forms of India such as dance, drama, music, films and free classes

for the public and organising lectures, talks, panel discussions and seminars on subjects

related to India. The Gandhi cultural centre functions under the Embassy of India and is

The Gandhi Centre, Embassy of India, The Hague cordially invites you to a Tabla Concert by Souvik

Datta & Sarode by Mayukh Gangopadhyay.

Souvik Datta is a versatile, vibrant and innovative percussionist who is well-known in the field of

tabla today. He was blessed to have received the much-coveted guidance from the Legend of Tabla

– Pandit Shankar Ghosh.

Mayukh Gangopadhyay is a Young `Sarod’ player, learning more than 17 years belonging to Maihar

Gharana. Now, he is under the tutelage of Smt. Troilee Dutta, who is one of the eminent disciples of

Late Pt. Kamal Mallik. He is taking also advance Talim in Imdadkhani style under the Guidance of

Pandit Hindol Chattopadhyay, who is a disciple of The Legend Ustad Vilayat Khan.

The Gandhi Centre, Embassy of India, The Hague cordially invites you to an evening of Kathak &

Bharatanatyam Performances by Tejaswini Sathe & group and Vaishanavi

Vaidyanathan.

Tejaswini has been trained under the able guidance of Guru Pandita Maneesha Sathe who is also her

mother-in-law. She has pursued her Bachelors and then Master’s degree in Kathak dance from Lalit

Kala Kendra, Pune University along with the Master’s degree in Kathak. Tejaswini is a proud

recipient of the Coveted "Singarmani" award.

Vaishnavi Vaidyanathan, a disciple of world-renowned Vidwan Keshav Kumar and Vidushi Dhattar

Sisters from Karnataka, India, is an internationally acclaimed Bharatanatyam dancer. She has won

many recognitions including "Vishwakalaaratna"(national award) and "Karnataka Naatya Myuri"

(state recognition) titles.

Anand and Pakhawaj by Sandip Bhattacharya.

Sumeet Anand Pandey has fast emerged as a promising young Dhrupad vocalist in India. He belongs

to the illustrious Darbhanga Dhrupad Tradition, tracing its origin to legendary Tansen (Gauhar Vani).

A disciple of Pandit Abhay Narayan Mallick (SNA awardee and disciple of late Pandit Ram Chatur

Mallick (PadmaShree, SNA awardee), last court musician to King of Darbhanga), he also received

early training from his grandfather Shri Birendra Mohan Pandey and maternal grandfather late Pandit

Siyaram Tiwari (PadmaShree, SNA Fellow. He is also Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR)

empaneled artist in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music.

The Gandhi Centre, Embassy of India, The Hague cordially invites you to a Veena concert by

Dr. R. J. Rajkumar.

Raj Kumar started playing Veena in the early years by learning basics from his mother Mrs.

Shyamala Jayaraman. His father is a music connoisseur. He got his tutelage from Ms. Shrimati., Mrs.

Susheela & Mr. Venkatraman. He has played before the President of India Dr. Abdul Kalam in the

Rashtrapati bhavan and before the princess of Travancore Samasthanam in the Padmanaba Swamy

temple in Trivandrum. He has done more than 2000 public programmes and has worked with Music

Directors like M.S. Viswanathan.

Sarangi Concert by Sabir Sultan Khan

The Gandhi Centre, Embassy of India, The Hague cordially invites you to a Sarangi Concert by Sabir

Sultan Khan and Tabla by Heiko Dijker.

Sabir Sultan Khan is an Indian Sarangi player. He belongs to Sikar gharana (school) of music which

has given several stalwarts to Indian classical music. Born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He trained under

his father, Legendary sarangi player & vocalist Padma Bhushan Ustad Sultan Khan Saheb & his

uncle Ustad Nasir Khan. He is the ninth generation to take up Sarangi. He has been honoured by

Ustad Bismillah Khan yuwa puraskar & Sangeet Natak Academy Yuwa Puraskar.

Heiko Dijker is an Amsterdam based Tabla player whose playing is marked by enthusiasm and

energy, depth of knowledge and rhythmic poetry. After years of traditional training with Shri

Bhaswaraj Bhendigeri in India & continued to learn with grandmaster Faiyaz Khan in the Guru-

Shisya (Master Disciple) system.

Kavya Goshthi 04th May 2019

The Gandhi Centre organized

Kavya Goshthi – A meeting of Urdu &

Hindi Poetry Appreciation club to

discuss on the Poems of Ahmad Faraz.

His poems were read in the meeting. As

part of the poetry appreciation series 25

budding poets participated. Eminent

scholars Chand Jiya and Dr. A

Siddique threw light on Ahmad Faraz’s

poems.

Rabindra Jayanti 04th May 2019

The Gandhi Centre celebrated

Rabindra Jayanthi in association with

Sangeeti school of Music headed by

Prajna Bhattacharya. The event

included group music songs on

Ravindranath Tagore’s works. Two

dance dramas were enacted by the

performers of Sangeeti Music. Kids

also enthusiastically sang on Tagore’s

Songs. Dr.Saroj Thapa, educationist

spoke on the occasion and felicitated

the key performers. The Embassy

officials & Counsellor of Bangladesh

joined the Celebrations.

Talk on “Gandhi and Spinning” by Miriam Haenen

10th May 2019

The Gandhi Centre organized a

Talk on “Gandhi and Spinning” by

Miriam Haenen in celebration of the

150th Birth Anniversary Mahatma

Gandhi. Ms. Haenen elucidated the

process of Charka – the wheel and the

spinning. She also demonstrated the

wheel operations in making a Khadi.

Ms. Haenen also answered the

audience queries on spinning of the

wheel.

Bansuri Concert

11th May 2019

The Gandhi Centre organized a

Bansuri Concert by Aura Rascon and

Tabla by Tarang Poddar.

It was the perfect synchronization

of music and both the performers played

in harmony and with elan. Aura

concluded the Concert by playing the

Favorite Bhajans of Mahatma Gandhi.

She kept the audience spell bound.

Bharatanatyam Performances

24th May 2019

The Gandhi Centre organized

Bharatanatyam Performances by Saritha

Choudhry and Revanta Sarabhai. Saritha

gave an energetic performance dedicated

to lord Shiva. Revanta performed on the

classical Bharatanatyam songs and also

on the contemporary themes

choreographed by him. Both the

performers enthralled the audience.

25th May 2019

The Gandhi Centre organized a

Sitar and Tabla concert by Kalyanjit Das

on Sitar and Tabla by Sandeep Banerjee.

25th May 2019

The Gandhi Centre organized a

Vocal concert by Somadutta. Somadutta

played the guitar and sang Ravindranath

Tagore’s songs. The melodious songs

kept the audience mesmerized.

Talk by K. S. Radhakrishnan

27th May 2019

The Gandhi Centre organized a

Talk on “Museon – a Muse” by K.S.

Radhakrishnan, an eminent Sculptor.

K.S.Radhakrishnan spoke elaborately on

MUSEON - A character which is a

regular part of his Sculpture creations.

His talk was well liked by the audience

who had a Question & Answer Session

later.

The Ambassador of India,

H.E.Venu Rajamony felicitated the

Sculptor.

The Gandhi Centre organizes regular classes in:

• Yoga

• Hindi Language

• Tabla (Indian percussion instrument)

These classes are open to each and every one at no cost. The classes are designed to cater to all age

groups as well as from beginners to advanced.

Yoga Classes Yoga is a science and art of healthy living with origins in ancient India. It is a stress

management therapy and its practice increase immunity and contributes to overall physical and

mental being.

The Yoga Teacher, Mr. Amit Khanna is a Yoga Therapist with 9 years of experience in Yoga.

He is also a Physiotherapist. He deals with various medical conditions and life style disorders and

suggests exercises to deal with them.

Yoga Class at The Gandhi Centre

Hindi Language Classes Hindi is the national language of India with origins in the ancient Indian language Sanskrit. It

is widely used in both India and Suriname.

Dr. Kanta Rani is an enthusiastic teacher in Hindi language. She has a Masters in Hindi, PhD

in education and over 25 years of teaching experience. She has spent several years in teaching Hindi

to non-Hindi speakers. She has also taught in ICC Suriname and her publications include three

textbooks and one Hindi conversation book.

Tabla Classes

Internationally acclaimed Tabla teacher Mr. Heiko Dijker of Dutch origin has been trained

under Ustad Faiyaz Khan, the famous Tabla player of India. Along with his public performances,

he also teaches in Universities. He teaches Tabla at the Gandhi Centre. The students love him because

of his personal attention to every student.
