I Think most of you know about the weekend feeding program for kids. The umbrella program is known as “Back Packs for Kids”. In short, some kids don’t always get lunch at home on weekends and this program provides a bag lunch for the two days. The program wasn’t started by Bluebills but when JACK RANDALL brought it to our attention we decided to support it where we could. I think we have helped to expand the program in Chimacum and our Quilcene Bluebills, led by BONNIE DOUGLASS, implemented it in that school last January. The program is already in effect in Port Townsend. Brinnon is the only School in Jefferson County not offering these lunches to those studentswho need them. I think I know every Bluebill in Quilcene and Brinnon. And I know that they do a wonderful job of supporting their communities. I’m going to make it my personal goal to organize these “get-her-done” members in setting up the weekend feeding program for Brinnon. I’ll be calling on them for help. Myron

YMCA SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM
Last year Bluebill volunteers helped with the YMCA summer feeding program.This year we are also committed to organizing the week and presenting aproject each day. We can still use some volunteers to fill out theschedule for the week. Here is the proposed schedule for summer feeding program projects: First, we will have Boeing tee shirts for all the kids (I have 50 size small)There will be Boeing Volunteer Tees shirts for any of us who want to wear one. Here is a tentative schedule of events: Arrive at the site (Chimacum Elementary School, 91 West Valley Road) at 10:00.We have 45 minutes for our activity which will be from 10:30-11:15 (or so). Monday, July 7:Building birdhouses: 20 kits are ready to build.Each child will get to keep the birdhouse plus get a certificate.Volunteer Leader: Myron Vogt. Volunteers: Jennifer Molloy, Justin Molloy, Jessica Molloy (daughter and grandkids).Could use a couple more. Let me know if you want to help.We need at least 15 hammers so think about that. Tuesday, July 8:Flying Rubber Band Airplanes;Each child gets to keep the airplane. Maybe prizes for longest flight or something. Volunteer Leader: Myron Vogt.Volunteers: Same Molloy family per above. It takes a little assistance to assemble these planes and getting them to fly right. Again, additional help can be used. Wednesday, July 9:Wooden Race Cars:Each child gets a race care to assemble and race down an inclined plane. Child keeps the car. Maybe some prizes if we can think of some.Volunteer Leaders: Dave Ditzler and Ken EmersonVolunteers: TBD. Contact Dave Ditzler if you can help. 437-0792 Thursday, July 10.BingoWe play Bingo. So that the game moves along, when you have filled10 squares you can pick a prize. Everyone keeps their card and the game continues until everyone has won. Volunteer Leader: TBDWe need to get some prizes: what I suggest is that we ask everyone to look through their cabinets for stuff that their grandkids used to play with but have outgrown. games, books, puzzles, etc. Friday, July 11Activity to be determined. Give me some suggestions.
To volunteer with the above activities, Contact Myron Vogt.To help with the overall feeding program contact Barbara Berthiaume.

The fact of the matter is that members like to support their communities. Our Clallam County members have been doing a great job of this and you should know it. Here is what they do. I’m going to start with Ted Muralt. Our Bluebill in Clallam Bay. Ted started our website and maintains it. That’s plenty right there. However, we deliver World Vision goods and school supplies to Clallam Bay and Neah Bay. This is a long trip to make from our warehouse in Chimacum so Ted lets us use one of his storage units in Sequim. We put the stuff there (often a couple of pickup-truck loads) and he arranges delivery.
Speaking of World Vision, Larry Lang has been our World Vision Distribution Coordinator for Clallam County for as long as I can remember. This job requires allocating the goods we have to distribute. Probably more importantly, Larry knows the agencies who he is dealing with and in many cases has to make sure they have received his message and have a chance to respond. This requires lot of personal knowledge about his W/V members. Larry then has to provide the paperwork to select the goods and give the guys delivery instructions. The World Vision goods we distribute are stored in a W/V warehouse in Fife. We have to pick them up each month and distribute in our area. Again, our Clallam County volunteers
continued
make the pickup from Fife and do the deliveries in Clallam County. Rod Harp, Dale Blankenship, Charley Johnson, Anita Knapp, Ken Orth and John Meyer are some of the drivers and helper
If you need ramps built, grab bars installed, steps repaired, handrails added or any number of fixes that make your home safer and easier to access, the Clallam Builders are the crew you want. Special thanks to Ken Mellott and Gifford Asher who are now “retired” but worked on these jobs for years and helped to break in the new crew members. The Clallam County Catholic Community Services Representative, Teri Wensits, does a great job working with our crews in lining up clients, providing insurance coverage and coordinating payment for the material. We probably have a few other volunteers such as Mary Pouge, who volunteer with churches, schools and agencies, that I’m not aware of. Thanks to all of those as well. Myron

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain;
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with
brotherhood,
From sea to shining sea.
