We also have 250 new backpacks. We want to fill as many as we can with a specific list of school supplies. Members of the community have been asked to provide the supplies and at this time we have about enough things to fill 70 backpacks. Some of our members, like Marv Segar, bought enough things to fill an even dozen. The folks from Brinnon, under the urging of George Sickle,.

In July Bluebills rented a storage unit and began stockpiling schoolsupplies from our monthly World Vision pickup. The warehouse is now practically full and we plan to make an October shipment to each of the14 eligible schools in our area. (Eligible schools are those having morethen 70% of the students on a free or reduced price meal program.) There is still a lot of work that needs to be done to get ready for delivery.Among the items in stock are 29 boxes of ball point pens. Each box hadabout 200 pens but each pen in the box is personalized with thename of a person. Our job was to mix up these names so that each school received a box of pens with various names on them. We have accomplished this, sorting 5768 pens into 14 boxes, each having 412pens.

ed another 30. At the Bay Club cocktail party, Valeria Vogt tributed 30 backpacks to be filled. This is a work in progress and willntinue right up to delivery

October 2 we will pick up another load of items from World Vision.ce they are added to the inventory a list of available supplies will be ered to the eligible schools. Our GIK coordinators (Larry Lang, Edrthiaume, and Valeria Vogt) work directly with the schools.

FIRE DEPARTMENT SAFETY FAIR

Bluebills were invited to participate in a Safety Fair put on by the Port Ludlow Fire Department. We were one of about a dozen agenciesand organizations who were emphasizing safety and emergencypreparedness. Our table focused on the Independent LivingProgram, showing grab bar installation and a model ramp. We also had brochures on the Lifeline program, which we are now installingwith referrals from Catholic Community Services. Jack Hawker and Myron Vogt staffed our table and we met many interested people as well as some neighbors and agency friends. We had 787 gliders, Bluebill pencils and some Boeing stickers to hand out so most of the kids stopped by.

GIFTS-IN-KIND THANK YOU LETTERS Bluebills receive numerous thank-you notes and letters each month. To repeat each one in full would take up too much space so here a some exerpts:

Thanks very much for the office supplies you delivered on Tuesday. All articles are distributed to clients of the Brinnon Food Bank. We serve an average of fifty-five families each week. They are delighted to receive these items and are putting them to good use. Brinnon Food Bank

We, the entire staff of the Quilcene School District, would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the generous donation we received last week. The above thank you letters are from some of the GIK program members that we serve in Kitsap, Jefferson and Clallam county. Although they read much the same they demonstrate the breadth of this program. Bluebills currently have close to forty agencies, churches and schools in our GIK program. In addition we have fourteen schools in our School Supply Distribution Program. Special thanks to all the Bluebills who pick up the goods from World Vision in Kent, help distribute to the GIK members in Jefferson, Kitsap and Clallam Counties, the warehouse crew who unload and inventory all the items and then pre-sort and help load the goods going to each GIK member every month.

Last, but not least

Thanks to our county coordinators who interface with all the agencies, churches and schools and come up with a list of just what each member wants. In all there are nearly 30 Bluebills who contribute to keeping this program going. The above thank you letters are meant for each and every one of you.

There is no way to sufficiently express our gratitude for your most generous donation of a wheelchair. It is a wonderful gift for us. We are a all-volunteer organization dedicated to helping the homeless and needy veterans of our county. Voices for Veterans, Clallam County

On behalf of Samaritans Purse and Operation Christmas Child I wish to thank you for the recent donation. The items will be used to in our organization and as an addition to our Christmas shoeboxes. we appreciate you thoughtfulness in keeping this program going and helping us meet out needs.. Gifts-In-Kind Clientsby Val Vogt

As you all know, once a month our Gifts-In-Kind program transfers goodsfrom the World Vision warehouse in Kent, WA to our Boeing Bluebills Gifts-In-Kind warehouse in Chimacum. We then distribute these goods to manyclients in Jefferson, Kitsap and Clallam Counties. We thought that maybe youwould like to know just who these clients are and what they do. So, wedecided to highlight some of our clients so that all of our members would havea better idea of what this program is all about and who benefits from it.

Meet Dr. Holli Hinkle, the licensed Psychiatrist at JMHS. She was recently recognized nationally by

NAMI as one of 18 of the nation's exemplary psychiatrists. We're so glad to have her here in

Jefferson County.

Some of our clients are pretty much self-explanatory. You all know about Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse of Jefferson County. We've had Cheryl Bozarth, the director of that program speak at one of our socials. Also, we give goods to churches and schools. One of the programs we don't know much about is the Jefferson County Mental Health Services. So, this month we'll give you just a short description of their services. Jefferson Mental Health Services (JMHS) is a private, not-for-profit organization. They are licensed to provide evaluation and treatment services to Medicaid and other publicly funded service recipients, as well as to those seeking treatment through insurance or other private finding means. They provide services through the following programs:

• Crisis Services Crisis intervention and emergency response services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to anyone in East Jefferson County having a need.

• Triage Program Assures that appropriate services are provided clients. Clients seeking mental health services are briefly screened when they call to identify need. Assessment is performed by a trained and experienced Mental Health Professional so that the nature of the problem can be identified.

• Outpatient Treatment Services

1. Community Support Services Program delivers support services with severe and persistent major mental illness and a history of in-patient psychiatric hospitalization.

2. Adult & Older Adult Treatment Program provides an array of services for adults from 18-60 years and older with a mental or emotional disorder.

3. Child and Family Program delivers services to children (through age 17) and their families. JMHS also offers the Discovery School program developed in conjunction with local school districts to provide education and treatment services to severely behaviorally disturbed children unable to be served in their district's programs.

12

4. Medical Services Program includes a licensed Psychiatrist, ARNP, RN and LPN, all with extensive experience in the treatment of mental illness and evaluation for prescription, medication, and medication monitoring as well as consultation with the patient's primary care physician.

If you have any questions about JMHS or it's programs, you can contact them at 360 385-0321. Their crisis hotline is the above number or 1-800-659-0321.

Bluebills helpedby scooping ice cream and MIKE GRAHAM put on the clownsuit. In addition to the help, we handled out 787 gliders to children and others. A good time was had by all and we are always happy to assistour CEA partners who do so much for the community. We haven’t done much lately in ourEducation Program. Here is another opportunity to get involved in helpingthe Chimacum students. Bert Goldstein introduced me to theChimacum Science Olympiad a fewyears ago and I have participatedevery year since. It is a lot of fun, doesn’t take much time (about 6hours), and you don’t have to know a lot about science. Everything is prepared for you in advance. You simply proctor the tests and gradetheir papers with a supplied answersheet, total the scores and reportthem to the office. There is a largechoice of experiments and tests that you may choose from. The event takes place on one Saturday. There is usually a brief orientation meetingfor volunteers one evening inadvance. Contact Dick Padilla for more information
