New Year Kicks Off With A 5810 Roundtable Record

By most accounts, the first District Rountable of the

year rivaled a record attendance, with more than 120

Rotarians and friends cramming into the Plano Cham-

ber of Commerce July 14 to hear new District Gover-

nor Sandy Forster’s plan for her term and to learn of

Rotary priorities for the coming 12 months.

“We’re out of coffee,” offered immediate past DG Bud

McBrayer, before giving his wrap-up of the May

District Conference at the Choctaw Casino. It was

Patriotic Sandy indeed a Jam-packed event.

“I’ve already started visiting local clubs,” Forster told the assemblage,

and said her schedule would be available online in ClubRunner.

(editor’s note: It will also appear in this newsletter, beginning with the

September edition , along with other major district events.)

A series of reports and introductions of new chairmen/women of vari-

ous committees followed.

Outgoing Treasurer Bill Denby (not the district Governor-Nominee),

said the district had a surplus, and the books for the fiscal year would

be closed by Aug. 1

The other Bill Denby, the district Governor-Nominee, then joined with

Forster and Governor-Elect Ean Sullivan

in proposing a novel idea for raising mon-

ey for the Rotary Foundation. “There’s

probably a whole other District Governor

in here somewhere,” Denby said , pointing

to his and Sullivan’s noticeable midsec-

tions. “If we go on a weight-loss plan,” we

can have a contest to see who loses the

most, with proceeds going to the RI Denby, Sullivan, Forster

Foundation.” Forster, who quickly endorsed the idea, said details for

the competition would be coming shortly.

Big Honor For East Dallas Rotary — In Top 50 for Per Capita Foundation Donations

Bill Perryman left his District 5810 position as Rotary Foundation

Chair a happy man: One of the district’s 68 clubs has been given the

singular distinction of being among the top 50 clubs worldwide in per

capita giving to the Rotary Foundation.

Les Lobel, Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of East Dal-

las, received a letter this month from Bill Boyd, Rotary Foundation

Trustee Chair, informing him of East Dallas’ unique honor.

Bill Perryman “The Rotary Foundation could not improve health, support education Les Lobel

and alleviate poverty if it weren’t for Rotarians like (East Dallas Rotary),” Boyd wrote.

The entire letter appears below.

Larry Webb to become 2015-2016 District Governor

Larry Webb, currently District 5810 Rotary Foundation chair, has been selected as the dis-

trict’s nominee-designate for District Governor in 2015-2016.

In late July, after interviewing candidates for District Governor, the District 5810 nominating

committee selected Webb as District Governor Nominee-Designate.

Here’s the official announcement from District 5810:

All candidates nominated by their Rotary Club were interviewed today at the Plano Cham-

ber of Commerce. The Nominating Committee selected Rotarian Larry Webb, member of the Rotary Club of

Prestonwood.

Not only has Webb served as club president for the Prestonwood Rotary Club, but he also recently has

served in various leadership positions within our district. Larry is the District Rotary Foundation Chair, previ-

ously served as the District Grants Chair and also as the Chair for the annual Humanity in Motion Gala ben-

efiting The Rotary Foundation.

Webb recently retired from a long and successful career in commercial banking.

Join us in congratulating Larry and his wife Pam for being selected as Governor for District 5810, 2015-

2016!

Bud Carmichael’s Condition ‘Greatly Improved’

Bud Carmichael is “greatly improved” and scheduled for a follow-up visit to the doc-

tor to determine what caused a sudden illness that sent him to the hospital earlier

this month. “Bud’s back up and around, and all of his vital signs are greatly im-

proved,” 5810 District Governor Sandy Forster said Aug. 18. “We’re still not certain

what caused him to have a sudden attack that appeared to be related to cardiac

problems, and we’re hopeful we’ll get some answers within the next few days.” For-

ster thanked everyone who had called and emailed her and Bud with their best

wishes. “This is when you confirm that an essential element of Rotary is friendship,”

she said.
