Marriage & Relationship

Enrichment Class No matter how long you’ve been married, and whether your marriage is good or the wheels are about to fall off, there is much to learn in this 9 week video class led by Chip Ingram.

These messages are Biblically based, but you will find all of the actions humanly possible! Class format will be a 25 mi-nute video followed by 35 minutes of discussion. Amy Vejar will facilitate the class and structured discussion.

The class will begin on Sunday, February 2nd at 4:30 PM and continue each week until Sunday, March 29th. The class will meet in the Family Life Center.

The cost of the class is $8 for the study guide. You may sign up for the class by contacting Leigh Karnes or the church office.

The class is open to the community, so please feel free to invite your friends and neighbors.

It is truly amazing what happens in Bible stories when they are retold by young scholars… God got tired of creating the world, so he took the Sabbath off. Adam and Eve were created from an apple tree. Noah’s wife was called Joan of Ark. Lot’s wife was a pillar of salt by day, but a ball of fire by night. Samson was a strong man who let himself be led astray by a Jezebel like Delilah. Samson slayed the Philistines with the axe of the apostles. Moses led the Hebrews to the Red Sea, where they made unleavened bread made without any ingredients. The Egyptians were all drowned in the desert. Afterward, Moses went up on Mount Cyanide to get the Ten Amendments. The First Commandment was when Eve told Adam to eat the apple. The Fifth Commandment is to humor thy father and moth-er. The Seventh Commandment is thou shalt not admit adultery. Moses died before he ever reached Canada. Then Joshua led the Hebrews in the Battle of Geritol. The greatest miracle in the Bible is when Joshua told his son to stand still and he obeyed him. David was a Hebrew king skilled at playing the liar. He fought with the Finklesteins, a race of people who lived in biblical times. Solomon, one of David’s sons, had three hundred wives and seven hundred porcupines. Jesus enunciated the Golden Rule, which says to do one to others before they do one to you. The people who followed the Lord were called the Twelve Decibels. The epistles were the wives of the apostles. One of the opossums was St. Matthew who was by profession a taxi man. St Paul cavorted to Christianity. He preached holy acrimony, which is another name for marriage. A Christian should have only one wife. This is called monotony. [Rowell’s 1001 Quotes, Illus., and Humor. Stories, pp.298-99] If you are not laughing right now my point has been made. You are laughing…aren’t you? While these stories are humorous when shared from the understanding of a child, there is nothing funny about them when Christian adults are unable to recognize the “slips” in each of the statements above. Certainly, these statements are so far out that we recognize right away that what has been shared is not really what the Bible teaches. But what happens when the stories are a lot closer to the truth, but still not truth? Are we as quick to say what is truth and what is not truth? Parents, for the most part want the best for their children. So, we as parents, make sure that our children are in Sunday School and other church-sponsored training events. That’s good! But it is not enough. Not only should parents encourage their children to learn more about the Bible, they should be teaching their children as well. Sadly, that cannot happen when the parents have not invested time in learning the Bible themselves. Admittedly, I am not an expert on every subject in the Bible…but I am a will-ing student. What about you? Are you a student of the Bible? The writer of Hebrews recognized a similar condition in his day. He writes in Hebrews 5:11-6:1 the following: “We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves (notice how they have matured) to distinguish good from evil. Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity…” Those were challenging words when they were first shared, and they are challenging today. The good news is that you can leave the elementary truths behind, starting today. Begin by reading your Bible each day. Mark down trouble spots you may have and take them to your Sunday School teacher (yes, adults you need to be in a class!), to one of the deacons, or to me. We’ll all be glad to help…if we don’t know the answer, we’ll find it together. After all, we’re all students together! See you in Bible study, Pastor Greg

We are praying for our church members and are thankful for God’s provision and protection from this virus. Our God is truly a mighty and powerful God, yet personal and loving. Zephaniah 3:17 says, “The Lord your God is with you, He is Mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” So why does God rejoice over us with singing? This verse refers to a coming time when God has ended his judgment on Israel. Each of the enemies of Israel have been destroyed and Israel is approaching a time of blessing and safety. It is telling of a future time when Messiah (Jesus) will reign with His people in Jerusalem.

This verse can also be translated, “He rejoices over you with a shout of joy”. This verse though begins with God’s people of Jerusalem singing praises to God. Our true worship of God is so important and vital and is sought after by God. Will you wor-ship Him in Spirit and truth. The results are amazing.

In the midst of our focus being on God, our provider and healer, there has been a new song that I have learned that encour-ages us to go into His presence and worship Him in all of His Holiness. Check it out! Throne Room Song, by People and Songs.

The Easter Musical has been temporarily postponed and I still would like to present it. We hope to have a new date soon. Jesus is and will forever be the Risen Lord and Savior. Lord over everything we face today!

Grocery Ministry

We have families in our community that are struggling to have needed food and supplies. This has given us a great opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ by ministering to these struggling families. So that is why we have start-ed an ongoing weekly Grocery Ministry. It has been going very well. Praise the Lord! We want to say thank you for your generous giving and support towards this ministry.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. –Matthew 5:16

There are ways you can still help and get involved. How can you help?

1. Pray for the Lord to provide for the needs of all those who are struggling. Pray for us as we take food to these fami-lies in need to have many opportunities to pray with and to encourage them in the Lord. 2. You can give financially to the Grocery Ministry by labeling your check "Grocery Ministry" and mailing it to the church address. PO Box 112 Trinity, TX 75862. We will use all of your gift to buy needed food and supplies for those who need it. 3. You can drop off food and or supplies at the Family Life Center on Mondays from 9:00-11:00am.

Here is a list of the most needed food and supplies…

Dry: Canned: Non-food Items:

- Cereal - Chili - Paper Towels

- Instant Oatmeal - Chicken Noodle Soup - Toilet Paper

- Mac and Cheese - Mixed Vegetables - Hand Soap

- Peanut Butter - Fruit - Jelly - Juice

4. You can get involved in helping with the collecting, shopping, and organizing at the Family Life Center from 9am-12pm every Monday. You can also help with the delivering of the food and supplies to the families in need on Mon-days from 1-3pm.

If you would like to get involved in helping with the Grocery Ministry, know someone who is in need of food or sup-plies, or have any questions please contact the church office at 936-594-3822, or [email protected].

In Him, Sam Brubaker

WORSHIP SERVICES RESUMING SOON

We have tentatively decided to begin meeting again on Sunday, May 24th, for Worship Service only. We will have two services, which will

be held at 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM. We will not have childcare, nor will we meet for Sunday School.

We will only be able to meet at 50% capacity. What will that look like? It means that we will have every other pew roped off so that peo-

ple can sit at 6 feet apart. It may be that there will only be one family allowed per pew, or two depending on the size and the distance

between them. We will have the Security Team here working to let members know when we have reached capacity. We will not be taking

up an offering, however, an offering box will be placed in the back of the Sanctuary. We are recommending for the protection of everyone

that you wear a mask.

We will be sanitizing the sanctuary between services as well as the downstairs bathrooms after each use. We hope to also have hand sani-

tizer available in the back of the sanctuary.

We know this may sound a little overwhelming. These are different times we are living in and we want to do all we can to make everyone

feel safe and comfortable while they are here. We miss our family being together in God’s house and look forward to seeing you soon. We

will not be having our fellowship time during service and we ask that when you see one another you replace your hand-shake or hug with

a verbal greeting and a smile (even if it is under a mask). :)

Lastly, please note that this is our tentative plan. Depending on what the Governor rules on May 18th, these plans may have to be adjust-

ed. We will just have to take things one day at a time and continue to pray that the spread of the virus will be minimal.
