THE C O M M U N I T Y CHURCH NEWS Vol. Ill Friday, May 1, 1936 STOW, OHIO No. 18 THE COMMUNITY CHURCH CHALLENGE For a community like Stow, or. any other like 'area on the face of the earth, there is no church so iwell adapted to serve a cosmopoli- tan people as a united church. I make a careful estimate that with- in a radius of three miles from the traffic light at the cross reads of Stow township that there are peo- ple affiliated with sixteen differ- ent denominations. These sixteen different groups range from a few families up to a fair showing of strength. The little groups thank God that they are different from the rest and -contend that, though small in numbers, like little ships or little trees, God has a place for them to edge in and work during' life's little day. Each little band, hciwever, dreams and hopes for nu- merical strength. They visualize a •church home, a Sunday school, a preacher, and all the garnish of a progressive church. But sixteen churches are impossible for Stow, 'that is sixteen brands of churches, •worshipping God in sixteen varie- ties of beliefs. There are probably mere than sixteen different nation- alities in Stow, they colonize and amalgamate very nicely, it's not necessary to have a hospital, or a drug sfco-re, or a doctor, or a hard- ware store for each nationality. I recall, however, that the Old Book reads, "For the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light." Luike 16:8. For the highest glory of God and 'for the greatest spiritual good for all 'the people it would be great if there was one church in Stow, and that church absorbed the strength and talent and interest of all the people. A mighty church of three thousand members, a cen- tralized church attracting the whole countryside, a choir of four hun- dred voices, a Bible school mould- ing cut immortal character, mighty as a magnet in drawing all youth to the world's greatest teacher, the Man of Galilee. A united church of the christian religion, rising to its privilege olf oneness in faith and doctrine. A church mighty in nsc-d and works, advancing the Kingdom of God in- Stow. A church loved a,nd respected' by all righteous folk. A church fcig enough and dynamic enough to be feared Iby the ungodly. A church that can speak a-s one having authority. A church where there is no thought of offence in faith or doctrine to anyone homeward bound. For in the New Testament church, caste, nationality, low and high, customs and persuasions, are all absorbed in the Master's church. There is neither Jeiw or Greek, there is neither bond or free, there is neither male or female, for ye are all one in Jesus 'Christ. Galatians 3:38. GEO-. M. t ru th the Son of God. The con-fession of Simon Peter, the declar-ation of Jesus on Mt. Hermon at the headwater of the Jordan river, and later the preparation of a company oif believers assembled in an upper room in Jerusalem after the ascension, this was the waiting-church, advancing no further un-til the promise of the ascended Christ should be realized. Luke 24:49.

Peter, restored by Christ to his iplace of leadership, assumes the role of preacher, and immediately upon the descent of the Holy Spirit, Simon Peter, the leader, .Peter the ordained apostle under the spell of the mighty Spirit which sweeping the house of prayer like a rushing wind. v

On the impetus of this miracu-lous phenomena Peter preaches the memoralble sermon and three thousand souls were added to the praying band of waiting friends. This day of Pentecost recorded in Acts Chapters 1 and 2 was the ful-fillment cf prophecy, it was the climax of the Master's ministry, it <wa.s the launching oif the mightiest influence known to the human race, the Church of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus . Christ.
