This Sunday, October 20th is World Mission Sunday. Pope Francis reminds us that we are each “Baptized and Sent”; we are all the “Church of Christ on Mission in the World.” Our second collection this weekend suppor ts The Propagation of the Faith which sustains priests, religious and lay pastoral leaders in more that 1,100 mission dioceses in Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands, and part of Latin America & Europe as they pro-claim the Gospel, build the church and serve the poor. Thank you to all who recently donated to our Church of the Incarnation 2019 Annual Collection! This is a special appeal we make yearly to parishioners for our own parish. Numer-ous repairs/improvements anticipated in the near future necessitate rebuilding our contingency fund. Our annual collection enables us to do this. If using a plain white envelope for your donation, please write down your four-digit envelope # (which can be found to the left of your name on your church envelopes) - example #1234. Goal is $100,000. Your support is greatly appreciated. Letters/envelopes are available at all entrances. During the month of October the ushers take count at the Sunday Masses of the number of persons present and the number receiving Com-munion. Thank you for your patience. “Incarnation Parish Family Italian Pasta Dinner is this Saturday, October 19, 6 pm - Fr. Craw-ford Hall.” Entertainment by Ralph Sacco, singer & professional entertainer. We would like to gather for the first time this school year on Sunday evening Oct. 27st. from 6:30–8pm in Fr. Crawford Hall. Let’s reach out to those in our community and invite them to join us. Youth Ministry is a less structured gathering than our Faith Formation Classes. It is open to all teenagers regardless of whether you are preparing to receive your Confirmation or have already received the Sacrament. This ministry is about fulfilling that need to connect, to be in relationships, and feel a sense of belonging. One of our main goals is to gather and engage youth to grow in their relation-ships with our Lord. We hope to stimulate our youth as they share their unique gifts with each other, our church community, and the community as a whole. Any questions don't hesitate to contact Maggie Seaver at: [email protected]. RESPECT LIFE CORNER: Prayer for October We pray from Scripture: Ephesians 4, verse 6 “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up with the training and instruction of the Lord.” Loving God increase in us the revelation and the gift to discern the call, path and purpose of our children. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Prayer Corner:

World Mission Sunday On this World Mission Sunday, we invoke the Lord’s blessings on all missionary en-deavors throughout the world.

Heavenly Father, You send your missionaries to sow the seed of your Word. Grant that they may reap an abundant harvest.

You send your missionaries to those who hunger and thirst for justice. Grant that their efforts may not be in vain.

You send your missionaries into places of danger and repression. Grant protection from all harm to those who bring God’s message and those who receive the Word.

You send us, your missionaries, to proclaim the Gospel message each day to those we meet. Grant that all of our efforts may enable your kingdom to come on earth and in heav-en.

God our Father, you bless us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Increase these gifts within us that we, too, may answer the call to take part in the worldwide mission of Jesus to “make disciples of all nations.” We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ, Redeemer of the world. Amen. Attention all parents: During Mass we request that children would always be accompanied to the re-strooms by a parent or adult. Thank you for your coop-eration.

PERSISTENCE Today’s readings are about passionate persistence. Exo-dus tells of a battle won despite weariness because Moses, with help from Aaron and Hur, held his hands raised. Timothy asks that same persistence of his community and us. Luke tells of a court case won by a widow, despite the dishonesty of the judge, because she will not leave him alone. The psalm re-minds us that God is everywhere, guarding us from harm day and night, coming and going, now and forever. The readings are about persistence, the relentless, unwavering pursuit of what must not be lost. The readings are about God’s passion-ate persistence in pursuing us, seeking to win our hearts. TODAY’S READINGS First Reading—As long as Moses kept his hands raised up, Israel had the better of the fight (Exodus 17:8-13). Psalm — Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth (Psalm 121). Second Reading — Remain faithful to what you have learned and believed (2 Timothy 3:14 — 4:2). Gospel — Will not God secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? (Luke 18:1-8). SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES Sunday: 29th Sun. Ordinary Time; World Mission Sun. Tuesday: St. John Paul II….Wednesday: St. John of Capistrano…...Thursday: St. Anthony Mary Claret Saturday: Blessed Virgin Mary TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Although the hours of daylight are rapidly dwindling, many people would say that these October days bring the year’s most splendid weather. Americans are riders and jog-gers, not strollers, and so the pleasures of the season are often lost on us. This is not the case with many Jewish people, who observe an ancient rule in walking to synagogue on the Sab-bath. On city streets and suburban sidewalks in many cities, we may notice around sunset the nicely dressed families walk-ing and chatting on Friday afternoon. After a short prayer at dusk, the families stroll home again for a relaxing and festive meal. They return to synagogue in the morning, and then spend an afternoon in family leisure until three stars appear in the night sky and Sabbath ends. Catholics, on the other hand, pile into the car and drive even a short distance to Mass; some even divide the family to participate at different hours. For Jews, the leisurely walk marks a dividing line between hectic life commitments and a day of abundant joy and enrichment. Before we became an automobile culture, Catholics embraced a similar pace, and in most places walked to church. These lovely days of fall invite us to tap into an old and life-giving tradition. If you live with-in a mile of your church, walk next week. If you must drive, park at a good distance and walk the rest of the way. Talk about your life, greet strangers, notice the crunch of leaves under your shoes. You may be surprised at how different Sun-day Mass feels when it is framed by leisure!
