Head Boy and Head Girl Speak:
Our Journey through Cygnus… It was just a week before the summer holidays, when I joined the
school, May 2015. I was a bit late on the first day to the school but
walking through that corridor, I realized that this is a new beginning and the stories that will be created here will stay
with me forever. As a person, I am an introvert and take time to
open up and talk. But to my utter surprise on the very first day of
the school in 2016, I was able to express myself freely without any
hesitation. Cygnus changed a lot in me. Over the years, I saw my-self growing up from a shy, introvert boy to a confident and self
-assured boy. The school boosted my confidence and groomed me
into an impressive personality. I was fortunate to have some of the
best teachers ranging from Smita Ma‟am to Hadrian Sir. From pillow fighting on school trips to playing football in the school, or listening to the rock music as a part
of Cygnus Fest, I have created priceless memories with my friends. The day I was
elected as the Head boy, I knew I do deserve the post and thus I promised myself
that I will work hard to rise to the expectation of all those who selected me and will
carry on with my duties diligently till the day I hand over my position to my successor.
From being the Vice-Captain of Pegasus House to the Head boy of the school,
the journey was surely memorable for me.
When I joined Cygnus in 2011, little did I know that it was the beginning of the
most exciting journey of my life! Everything here is so much fun,
from the sorting of students into houses to the numerous events we
have…With every passing year, Cygnus has not only increased in its strength but has also offered us many new
opportunities be it academics or non-academics. The school
provides an excellent platform wherein the students can uncover
their talent in varied and diverse areas. I discovered my niche for acting and oratory skills by participating in various competitions
and by being a part of the organizing team of the various events. I
was the Vice-captain of my House and the Head Girl of the school
which helped me to learn from my mistakes and understand and
imbibe the qualities of a leader. The trip to Singapore exposed me to things that I probably would have never known: the international platform, interaction with the
students of other countries, visiting places of importance and above all managing
activities on our own. Over the years at Cygnus I have become a more informed
person. I have always been passionate about design and now I can relate to different
artists from Freida Kahlo to Georgia O‟ Keefe because my school introduced me to these renowned artists in my ART class. This has helped me to develop diverse
opinion about the prevalent and futuristic designs. I have been able to acquire the
“21st Century Skills” like making films and videos, engineering and construction
skills and oratory skills which will help me in varied ways in the future. But, most importantly…….
I have been able to develop friendship that will last for a lifetime! In these
eight years, I carved a multi-faceted personality all thanks to my time at
Cygnus!

Uttarayan Out and About
It was difficult to control the
excitement of our kids on this field trip which was „Joy Ride in
the train‟ at Kamati garden.
Children sat in the train with
their peers and sung various
rhymes. They were excited to see animals like deer, monkeys,
rabbits, crocodile etc in the zoo,
on the way during the ride. We
returned back to school
having created pleasurable memories!!!!
A festival where you will find
the entire city gathered on the roof tops for kite flying and
enjoyment. The kite flying fest
was organized at Cheviot kids
to celebrate the upcoming
event of Makar Sankranti. Children with their hats, caps
& glares on gathered on the
open ground, where they
watched their teachers fly
kites. It was amazing watch-ing the kites soar high blan-
keting the blue sky in colorful
codes.
Facing the audience, speaking on the mike was something children of Pixies did for the first time. But, that did not
show on their face neither in their performance. With the help of the teachers and regular practice sessions,
children raised the bar of their performance and showed that self-confidence is the best outfit, rock it and own it. Be it dramatizing the story, talking about an object, dancing on the tunes of a song, children of Pixies gave a bang
of a performance.
Street Games
Street Games harness the power of
sport to create positive changes in
the lives of disadvantaged people living in the villages. Now a days,
all the children are more involved
in modern gadgets and games. So
children were very excited to
explore and play street games like Hopscotch, Pittu, Kabbadi,
PahadKudh, etc. The event was
organized and planned well in
advance. Every class was given
two games to play. Along with the children, all the teachers also
enjoyed and had great fun.
Rightly said - “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” Academic learning and sports education go hand in
hand. On 5th January,2018,on a crisp winter morning our sporty champs were all set to exhibit their sportsman
spirit. Excitement was in the air. The Smart walk was done by all the Cheviot children. Various class races were conducted for the children. They exhibited tremendous sports spirit and coordination. We at Cheviot kids believe
that every child is a winner. And thus all the children were awarded with medals. Our enthusiastic parents
sportingly participated in various races organised by the school. It was a fun filled event and each one realised the
significance of sports in their life.
Cheviot Olympics
Christmas Celebration
Musical Day
Musical day was celebrated
with great enthusiasm and
zeal. Various musical instruments were brought
into the school premises and
the children were exposed
to their names, how they are
played etc. The children experimented with the
instruments, made their own
instruments and learned
about ancient instruments
and music maestros.
The world is a global village, yet
another festival to celebrate, to
educate and inculcate religious tolerance among young ones. A
time to give and forgive...The birth
of Christ was celebrated at our
school with glee. The story of
Christ Birth was shown through a skit performed by Primary
children. Few dances related to
Christmas were showcased by
our children. Soon Santa made a
magnificent entry and all the kids hit the floor to dance with Santa
Claus. We ended our celebration
with games and dances and waved
the children goodbye for the short Christmas break.
Magnetism is an attraction that
two items have making them stick
together! Young kids learned by exploring, observing, and figuring
out the way things work
by experimenting. Children were
introduced and explained how the
magnet works and what it attracts. A Special sorting activity was
planned for them. We included all
sorts of fun objects to explore.
Everything from a piece of wood, to
a miniature car, to a hook, and a nut and bolt and keys and locks.
It was an interesting and engag-
ing activity.

Story Presentation by Parents
The most eagerly awaited event of the year „Cheviot Fest‟ was organised, showcasing our super talented
students who left us spellbound with their outstanding presentation on stage. They endeavoured to create an
environment filled with positive energy, fun, laughter…. a perfect combination of teamwork and coordination was witnessed.
This year the theme was “Ages Unfolded...” We started with the lamp lighting ceremony after which the Cheviot choir
stole our hearts with their melodious tunes !!
The thematic presentation was the show stopper. Starting from the stone age, to caveman to the modern era, human
history was depicted through various skits and dance performances. The culmination of the programme was outstanding!
Cheviot Fest
The children were very excited on
Treasure hunt day and fully geared
up for the search drive. They created funny scenarios when they
ventured out in the school
premises in search of treasure. For
them, finding toys according to
colours, words, numbers, different character placards etc was a real
thrill. Thus a fun-filled
adventurous day gave them a lot of
opportunity to work in pairs,
groups and build team spirit.
The Parents Enrichment programme
was conducted by our Director
Mrs. Bhavani Raghuraman, on Thursday 24th January, 2018. The
topic for the programme was “Story
Telling leads to child development”.
Ma‟am explained the importance of
story telling to the parents with lots of examples. The session was very
interactive and the parents benefitted
greatly from the same .
Events at Cheviot Kids:
Treasure Hunt
Cheviot Kids invited volunteer
parents for a story telling
session. Parents marched in all dressed up as the characters
from their story. They were
armed with puppets and
attractive props. The children
watched enthralled as the parents entertained our
pre-schoolers!!

Q1 Three words that describe you...
Ans: Honest, Conscientious and a team player.
Q2 Tell us about your childhood. What impact does it have on your present new
role of a mother?
Ans: My Childhood was the golden period of my life. My parents raised me well, taught
me the basic moral values. They inculcated the true sense of humanity in me. I was
given complete freedom to pursue my hobbies which really helps me in my present
profession of a teacher. I have enjoyed each moment of my childhood, in the true sense.
Now I am showering the golden rays of my childhood onto my daughter and allowing her
to blossom freely and happily with lots of positivity and confidence.
Q3 One thing which you want to correct in society...
Ans: That is a very difficult choice. After thinking a lot, I came to the conclusion that
I would like to change “people‟s obsession for selfies and extensive use of social
media.” Now a days, even birthday greetings and condolence messages are conveyed as HBD and RIP. It seems
fake and just a formality. The deeper thoughts and words are just missing. Are we really living our life or being
controlled by technology? Give it a thought...
Q4 What are your top five bucket list items?
Ans: Travel all around the world, Go Scuba diving, skiing on a snowy slope, pursue my dancing passion and
perform selfless deeds.
Q5 When I look at my students, I see unlimited possibilities “. Justify this statement.
Ans: I believe that children have the right to quality education that is inclusive and fair. I see every child as a
unique individual that has the potential and ability to achieve and succeed. Their thoughts, feelings, opinions,
beliefs and values are important. It is essential for children to develop confidence in their own abilities and to
chase their own goals. Therefore, as a teacher I want to boost their creativity and encourage their love for
learning.
