To do our best in ministry and missions, we said we would need the church to give $473,407. But, the church has only given $360,125 through tithes and offerings. That is a big deficit, but it is one we can overcome together when we all do our part. During August and September I preached three sermons on Stewardship. These sermons were driven by my belief that if we all step up in faith and offer to God the 10% tithe scripture calls us to, God will provide in abundant ways. While I am not a prosperity gospeltype of preacher, I firmly believe that when we all engage in the shared project of the Kingdom of God by equally sacrificing and contributing, God meets our needs. Do you believe this? Do you believe in the power God promises us when we tithe? As we finish this year, I hope you will in- crease your commitment to God by giving faithfully to his work through our church. Every businesses, non-profit organization and corner of the world will be looking to you to get their budget into the black before the year ends. But I believe the best contribution and investment you can possibly make is to give faithfully and generously to Gods work through this church. So, as the seasons change, plan now for the ways you can contribute well to the financial life and sustainability of Gods work through Oxford Baptist Church. Humbly, Chris

The Changing of the Season

I love Fall. After many summers in Texas and three hot summers on the Gulf Coast, I

love the relief from the summer heat. I love the changing of the leaves, the heart of the

football season and resurrection of the crock-pot from the back of the cabinet (bring on

the chili!).

As preachers and worship planners, the fall turns our attention to finalizing Advent and

Christmas plans. Our choirs practice holiday music, our committees prepare, and I make

final tweaks to my December and January sermon plans. Each changing season begets

plans for the next.

It is important for you to consider the changing of the seasons as well. As holiday plans

take shape, our ball teams move from the field to the arena, and as we plan for the year

to end and begin again, what do you need to attend to when it comes to your connection

to your faith through your church family?

Our Budget/Stewardship/Finance Committee has completed their work on the budget

for 2016 and will present that budget for discussion during Vespers on November 11.

But, the preparation of next year’s budget does not mean our work is done for this year.

As of October 18th, we have only received 76% of the receipts we need to fully support

our budget. To do our best in ministry and missions, we said we would need the church

to give $473,407. But, the church has only given $360,125 through tithes and offerings.

That is a big deficit, but it is one we can overcome together when we all do our part.

During August and September I preached three sermons on Stewardship. These sermons

were driven by my belief that if we all step up in faith and offer to God the 10% tithe

scripture calls us to, God will provide in abundant ways. While I am not a ‘prosperity

gospel’ type of preacher, I firmly believe that when we all engage in the shared project

of the Kingdom of God by equally sacrificing and contributing, God meets our needs.

Do you believe this? Do you believe in the power God promises us when we tithe?

As we finish this year, I hope you will in-

crease your commitment to God by giving

faithfully to his work through our church.

Every businesses, non-profit organization

and corner of the world will be looking to

you to get their budget into the black before

the year ends. But I believe the best contribution and

investment you can possibly make is to

give faithfully and generously to God’s

work through this church. So, as the

seasons change, plan now for the ways you

can contribute well to the financial life and

sustainability of God’s work through

Oxford Baptist Church.

Humbly,

Chris

FAMILY AND STUDENT MINISTRY

YOUTH FALL BIBLE STUDY

OBC Youth are in the second half of

an 8-week Bible Study produced by

Passport ~ “Faith and Action.” This

awesome study offers students a solid

Biblical foundation as the root for why

Christians participate in missions and

justice issues. The purpose is not to

make us feel good, but to seek to “make

earth as it is in heaven.” Pray for our

youth as they grow and learn together.
