Our Sacramental Information Sacrament of Baptism: Baptism is usually

celebrated at the last Mass on any weekend in

each of our Churches except during Lent. First

time parents must attend a pre-Baptism class

prior to the Baptism, Godparents should be

present if possible. Please call Gail Gould at the

Pastoral Center prior to the birth of your baby.

Sacrament of Reconciliation: Saturdays 3:00 -

3:30 at St. Joseph, St. Augustine and St. Francis

Xavier and at St. Denis on Sunday at 10:30 am.,

or by personal request.

Sacrament of Confirmation: If you are a Cath-

olic and have never celebrated Confirmation

and would like to call Sr. Carol Martin 623-

8823.

Sacrament of Marriage: Call the Pastoral Cen-

ter and make arrangements at least six months

in advance of your wedding date. Couples must

attend a preparation program prior to the

wedding.

Sacrament of the Sick: Please call the Pastoral

Center during the course of a loved one’s illness

so that the person may be given this healing

consolation. This Sacrament may also be ad-

ministered at Church before or after any Mass.

Eucharist to the Sick: We ask family or friends

to let us know when someone is in a nursing

home or home bound so the Eucharist may be

offered to them. Please call the Pastoral Center

at 623-8823 and we will make the arrangements

for a Eucharistic Minister to visit them.

Prayer for Autumn Days Sr. Joyce Rupp, OSM

God of the seasons, there is a time for everything;

there is a time for dying and a time for rising.

We need courage to enter into the transformation process.

God of autumn, the trees are saying goodbye to their green,

letting go of what has been.

We, too, have our moments of surrender, with all their insecurity and risk.

Help us to let go when we need to do so.

God of fallen leaves lying in colored patterns on the ground,

our lives have their own patterns.

As we see the patterns of our own growth, may we learn from them.

God of misty days and harvest moon nights,

there is always the dimension of mystery and wonder in our lives.

We always need to recognize your power-filled presence.

May we gain strength from this.

God of harvest wagons and fields of ripened grain,

many gifts of growth lie within the season of our surrender.

We must wait for harvest in faith and hope.

Grant us patience when we do not see the blessings.

God of geese going south for another season,

your wisdom enables us to know what needs to be left behind

and what needs to be carried into the future. We yearn for insight and vision.

God of flowers touched with frost and windows wearing white designs,

may your love keep our hearts from growing cold in the empty seasons.

God of life, you believe in us, you enrich us,

you entrust us with the freedom to choose life. For all this, we are grateful.

MASS INTENTIONS: The practice of requesting a Mass to

be offered for deceased loved ones is a beautiful and wonderful

part of our Catholic tradition. In our Parish there are many re-

quests for Mass intentions, as a way to allow as many as possi-

ble, please be mindful of the limited number of Mass times

available. We also need to make times available for the recently

deceased.

If you are requesting more than one mass intention, please visit

the pastoral office to schedule. It is not efficient for the office to

process multiple mass intentions over the phone. Mass Inten-

tions may be requested by postal mail but must include the of-

fering and the Masses cannot be guaranteed.

Why Pray for the Dead?

The Catholic position on praying for the dead stands on two other doctrines: the teachings on purgatory and the communion of saints. First, purgatory. It’s best described as a condition — not a place—between death and heaven. Notice that it’s not between heaven and hell, as many folks presume. The church teaches that few people are so holy that they can attain heaven in one leap or so irreconcilably evil that they wind up straight in hell. The deliberate choice to turn from God is rarely made, and in any case it’s not for us to judge. So what’s left for us is to pray for all who go before us in death, especially those known to us personally. Our belief in the communion of saints is an acknowledgment that death doesn’t break the bonds of our relationship to one another. In the “economy of salvation,” the currency we use to assist our friends is prayer. Praying for the dead includes offering a Mass for their sake, giving alms in their name, or any good work performed for their intention. And should we do these things for bad people, even really bad ones who may have hurt us? Those folds more than any others need our help! Jesus tells us to love our enemies. Certainly we can bless others in death as well as in life. Those who have gone before us need our prayers. And someday we will likely need prayers ourselves.

HSYM St. Michael Parish has an active High School

Youth Ministry! HSYM meets weekly on Sunday

evenings from 6:00-8:00pm. Our regular gatherings

are twice a month at the Pastoral Center Youth

Room in Augusta. At HSYM we get to know other

teens from all church sites, break the ice with fun

games, discuss scripture and other relevant topics,

enjoy food, explore our Catholic faith, broaden our

Catholic experience and most importantly, we have

fun! Did I mention, we go on trips? We also meet

at different churches in our Parish on other weeks

for special gatherings. Our full schedule is posted

on the parish website under Faith Formation and

Middle School NET Retreat November 22 in Falmouth

The Parish of the Holy Eucharist will host a NET Retreats for young Catholics on November 22 at Holy Martyrs Church on 266 Foreside Road in Falmouth. NET Ministries is an international organization that challenges young Catholics to love Christ and embrace the life of the Church. The NET Retreats are high-energy experiences that utilize large group presentations, small group discussions, music, drama, personal faith sharing, and one-on-one prayer. The retreat for Grades 5-8 is on Saturday, November 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration deadline No-vember 12. Advent Bible Study Matthew and Luke tell of the birth of Jesus

Come, explore the Infancy stories, so familiar to us at

Mt. View Chamber Singers “Carols in the Round”

Mt. View Chamber Singers will be performing at

St. Denis Church in Whitefield on Wednesday, De-

cember 3 at 7:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in

the church hall.

Sacred Heart Church in Hallowell on Wednesday,

December 10th at 7 p.m. The Ladies Guild will pro-

vide refreshments at the church hall where you can meet

these talented young people.

This is a wonderful way to begin your Christmas cele-

EDUCATION MONTH The month of November is designated as Reli-

gious Education Month and is celebrated

throughout New England. For the month of

November our Faith Formation of St. Michael

Parish will focus on the sacrament of Reconcil-

iation. The theme is God’s Gift of Forgiveness. God’s gift of

forgiveness cannot be earned it is offered by God’s grace. As a

gift from God, receptivity and openness on our part are neces-

sary to receive it. Once we accept God’s gift of forgiveness we

are invited, led and begin to see what was invisible without the

gift of faith.

Please keep all our St. Michael Parish Faith Formation and St.

Michael School children in your prayers as they continue to

learn more about God’s unconditional love that is always with

them on their life-long journey of faith.

Maine’s roads has the potential to be

the most effective pro-life message in

the state. Choose Life Maine, Inc.

wants to qualify a pro-life license plate in Maine, following in

the footsteps of 29 other states. A Choose Life Maine special-

ty license plate will also provide a source of annual financial

support to Maine’s Pregnancy Support Centers. To qualify a

“By tradition during the month of November we make special

effort to remember and pray for our loved ones who have died

as well as give thanks to God for the holiness we have seen in

their lives. Men of the parish are invited to join the Men of St

Michael Gatherings as we observe this dual holy time: All

Souls and All Saints. The gathering will take place at the St.

Joseph Church in Gardiner on Sunday, November 16 from

3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A time of light refreshment and conver-

sation will follow the prayer service.

AUGUSTA ULTREYA Our next Ultreya meeting will be on Tuesday, Novem-

ber 25, at St. Monica Hall at 7 p.m. We will be remem-

bering all deceased members who have passed on dur-

ing the 2014 year. We ask all Curillistas and guests to

join us for this special evening. Refreshments will be

Second Collection

There is no second collection this weekend.

Next weekend The Collection for the Catholic Campaign for

Human Development (CCHD) was founded to end the cycle

of poverty in the United States by funding organizations that

help people help themselves. CCHD grants improve educa-

tion, support economic development, and help communities

provide housing in low-income neighborhoods. 25% of this

collection will remain right here in Maine to support our

parish ministries that make lasting changes in people’s

lives and uplift the poor living in our communities. Please

prayerfully consider your contribution to the CCHD collection

on the weekend of November 22nd and 23rd.

Parents, We are so grateful for your children who give to the offer-

tory each week, either with an envelope or not. We would

“Christmas by the Lake” at St. Philip in Auburn:

The 40th annual fair will be held on Sat., Nov. 22, from 9-3 at

St. Philip’s Church, located on Rt. 4 across from Lake Au-

burn. Additional shopping for any leftovers will be available

on Sun., Nov. 23, between 10 and noon. Features include

homemade candies, wreaths, knits, quilted items, theme bas-

kets, woodcrafts, bakery, country cupboard, jewelry, holiday

crafts, baked beans, lunch counter, silent auction, children’s

activity room, and three rooms of “hidden treasures.” Booth

raffles and a large raffle for three cash prizes of $500 each.

Literacy Night Success

The first annual Literacy Night was a great success. Prin-

cipal Cullen started the evening by reading Miss Smith’s Incredible Storybook by Michael Garland. Afterwards stu-

dents participated in a “book walk” where everyone won a book. They visited classrooms to view book projects,

made crafts, enjoyed themed snacks, viewed book trail-

ers in the computer lab and played “find all the adorable dogs” for a Barnes and Noble gift card. Everyone enjoyed

themselves, parents and students alike. Thank you to all of the parent volunteers and donations. A special thank

you to all of the teachers and staff for taking the time and effort to host such a wonderful event.
