From the Senior Chaplain

I hope the study of Scripture is primary in your life. In 2 Timothy, the Bible reminds us, “All Scripture is inspired by God” which means that it is, “God breathed.” It’s the word that origi-nated with God and is sustained by God. Its authority rests upon the authority of God Himself. One prominent Biblical scholar stated, “It (the Bible) knew me.” In other words, as he read the Bible, he found that the struggles, fears, doubts, pressures, and all the other challenges of life were addressed within the revelation of God’s word. It was his personal testimony throughout his life and he always made it known to his students at Princeton Theological Seminary. His name was Emil Cailet. Prior to his conversion, he was teaching in Paris and was an avowed atheist. It was through an extended period of scripture study that he came to Christ.

In Disciple I Bible study, the class dealt with the question, “What do you expect from the Bible?” Also, we were asked, “In what situations do we pay attention to what Scripture says?” I hope these questions, and others like them, will be considered by all of us. God, through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit, has revelation for each one of us. I firmly believe that as we read the Bible and listen to God’s speaking voice, we will be continually amazed with the depth and clarity of life changing truth found in the Bible.

What do you expect from the Bible? I realize there are a vari-ety of answers to that question. We all approach the Bible from different perspectives and backgrounds. But, for me personally, I never want to read the Bible merely for information. I want to ap-proach God’s word with the expectation of transformation. Read 2 Timothy 3:16,17. It’s a great promise and it will transform all of life.

Blessings and peace,

Len
