We are seeking people who would be willing to become readers and extraordinary ministers of communion in order to spread the load more broadly. When we share the work it is lighter for all. You will be given training and support. Please consider your involvement in this important ministry prayerfully and if you would like to express your interest, complete the expression of interest form near the Sacristy or contact Grace Harwood at the Cathedral Office. Our parish is conducting the annual World Mission Month appeal for Catholic Mission this weekend (Oct 15/16) In the Gospel for this weekend, we hear in the first reading of a battle being waged and the impact of Moses on the outcome of that conflict. When Moses holds his arms aloft, Israel has the advantage. But when he tires, the tide turns. In order to ensure his arms remain raised, Aaron and Hur offer support, one on either side. This weekend, your parish becomes one of those men. Through this appeal, you will join with Catholic Mission, on the other side; together, we help support and sustain missionaries around the world, such as the Sisters of Mercy in PNG, and those they serve, such as Steven. Thank you, in anticipation, for your support – you will be responsible for helping turn the tide against poverty, domestic violence and other injustices. 25th Jubilee of Priestly Ordination Cathedral parishioners are invited to celebrate the 25th Jubilee of Priestly Ordination of Bishop Anthony Randazzo and Fr Morgan Batt A Jubilee Mass will be held in St Stephen’s Cathedral, Tuesday 29 November at 7.00pm followed by supper in the Francis Rush Centre. A sign of a healthy parish is that parishioners discuss the issues and challenges that modern life brings to our Faith and our Church. The Parish Pastoral Council will be organising a number of opportunities in the next few years for us to have such conversations. Apart from providing opportunities to discuss amongst ourselves this will be a good platform to prepare for the Australian Plenary Council (anticipated 2020). We are currently arranging the first of these Parish Conversations and planning to meet with various Parish groups (YAM, Guides and Welcomers) and also provide opportunities for everyone in the parish to participate. In particular we will be organising meetings on: Third Sunday Morning Teas in November at St Stephen’s Morning Tea in November at St Patrick’s- date to be announced. An evening at Francis Rush Centre in November (date to be announced- after 5.10pm mass and also at 7.00pm same evening) For this initial set of conversations we would like you to consider these questions: A. What do you think the Church is currently doing particularly well to address the issues we are facing at present? Do you have particular concerns about things it is not doing well and should be doing? B. How well do you think we as a parish are doing as part of that process? Think about the parish and its position in the City. Are there specific areas at which we need to be doing better? What should be our priorities? C. Reflecting on recent years, what have been your highlights as being part of the Cathedral parish? What are the challenges we will face in coming years and how do you think we should respond to these? Think about issues such as liturgical life, responding to our community etc. If you would like to respond to any of these questions individually (either in addition to attending these meetings or instead of) please do so by sending an email response to [email protected]. Please watch out for specific dates for the above meetings in future newsletters. PROCESSIONAL HYMN ABBOTSLEIGH

INTROIT PLAINSONG

Ego clamavi, quoniam exaudisti me, Deus: inclina aurem tuam, et exaudi verba mea: custodi me, Domine, ut pupillam oculi: sub umbra alarum tuarum protege me. I call upon you, God, for you will answer me; bend your ear, and hear my prayer. Guard me as the pupil of your eye; hide me in the shade of your wings.

The 10:00am Solemn Mass is sung by the Cathedral Choir. The 12:00pm Mass is sung by the Cathedral Schola.

2. Lord, you call us to your service: ‘In my name baptize and teach.’ That the world may trust your promise, Life abundant meant for each, Give us all new fervor, Draw us closer in community; With the Spirit's gifts empower us For the work of ministry.

3. Lord, you bless with words assuring: ‘I am with you to the end.’ Faith and hope and love restoring, May we serve as you intend, And, amid the cares that claim us, Hold in mind eternity; With the Spirit's gifts empower us For the work of ministry.

KYRIE ET GLORIA POSTCOMMUNION HYMN HYFRYDOL

2. Alleluia, not as orphans Are we left in sorrow now; Alleluia, he is near us, Faith believes, nor questions how; Though the cloud from sight received him When the forty days were o'er, Shall our hearts forget his promise, ‘I am with you evermore’? 3. Alleluia, Bread of angels, Thou on earth our Food, our stay; Alleluia, here the sinful Flee to thee from day to day; Intercessor, Friend of sinners, Earth's Redeemer, plead for me, Where the songs of all the sinless Sweep across the crystal sea. 4. Alleluia, King eternal, Thee the Lord of lords we own; Alleluia, born of Mary, Earth thy footstool, Heaven thy throne: Thou within the veil hast entered, Robed in flesh, our great High Priest; Thou on earth both Priest and Victim In the Eucharistic Feast.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

GOSPEL Luke 18:1-8

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

I lift up my eyes to the mountains: from where shall come my help? My help shall come from the Lord who made heaven and earth. May he never allow you to stumble! Let him sleep not, your guard. No, he sleeps not nor slumbers, Israel's guard. The Lord is your guard and your shade: at your right side he stands. By day the sun shall not smite you, nor the moon in the night. The Lord will guard you from evil, he will guard your soul. The Lord will guard your going and coming both now and for ever.

SANCTUS

OFFERTORY MOTET

THE LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills: from whence cometh my help. My help cometh even from the Lord: who hath made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: and he that keepeth thee will not sleep. Behold, he that keepeth Israel: shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord himself is thy keeper: the Lord is thy defence upon thy right hand; So that the sun shall not burn thee by day: neither the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: yea, it is even he that shall keep thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out, and thy coming in: from this time forth for evermore. WALFORD DAVIES
