    THE BENEFITS OF CHOCOLATE

    I. IntroductionThere are many benefits of consuming chocolate in our daily life. One of it is chocolates are

    good for our emotion, chocolates are also proven to benefit our bodys health and lastly

    chocolate can be used as a source of energy.

    II. BodyA. One of the benefits of consuming chocolate is it is good for emotions.

    1. Apple and chocolate eating improved mood but chocolates effect was stronger(Macht & Dettmer, 2006)

    a) Dark chocolate stimulates the production of endorphins, chemicals in thebrain that bring on feelings of pleasure.

    b) It also contains the chemical serotonin, which acts as an anti-depressant.2. Chocolate eating reduced negative mood after watching sad film, no effect on

    positive mood (Macht & Mueller, 2007)

    a) Eating chocolate stimulates the brain's opioid production.i. Opioids are chemicals responsible for diminishing pain sensations,

    enhancing pleasurable ones, and creating a sense of overall well-being.

    B. Chocolates are also proven to benefit your body.1. Eating chocolate makes your heart healthier

    a) The latest research backs up claims that chocolate has cardiovascularbenefits: In a 9-year Swedish study of more than 31,000 women, those who

    ate one or two servings of dark chocolate each week cut their risk for heart

    failure by as much as a third.

    b) Another big, long-term study in Germany this year found that about asquare of dark chocolate a day lowered blood pressure and reduced risk of

    heart attack and stroke by 39 percent. Most of the credit goes to flavonoids,

    antioxidant compounds that increase the flexibility of veins and arteries.

    2. Chocolates help reduce chances of diabetes.a) In a small Italian study, participants who ate a candy bar's worth of dark

    chocolate once a day for 15 days saw their potential for insulin resistance

    drop by nearly half. "Flavonoids increase nitric oxide production and that

    help control insulin sensitivity.

    3. Chocolates can also help weight lossa) Researchers from the University of Copenhagen found that dark chocolate is

    far more filling, offering more of a feeling of satiety than its lighter-colored

    sibling. That is, dark chocolate lessens cravings for sweet, salty, and fatty

    foods. So if indulging in a bit of healthy dark chocolate should not only make

    it easy for you to stick to the small portion recommended for optimal health,

    but it should make it easier for you to stick to your diet in general.
