Bow WoW

When he was six years old, Shad Moss was at a rap tour. He jumped onstage and started

rapping. A famous rapper named Snoop Dogg liked what he heard. He asked Shad to come on his tour. Seven years later, Shad became the youngest solo rapper ever to hit #1!

Shad was born on March 9, 1987, in Columbus, Ohio. When Snoop Dogg discovered Shad, he gave the youngster the nickname “Lil’ Bow Wow.” It was under this name that Shad burst onto the music scene.

Lil’ Bow Wow released his first album in 2000. It was called Beware of Dog. The song “Bounce With Me” hit #1 on

the charts. The album went double platinum. Lil’ Bow Wow’s second album was a success as well. Fans couldn’t get enough of songs like “Take Ya Home” and “Thank You.”

In 2002, Lil’ Bow Wow dropped the “Lil’” from his nickname. He did this to show that he was growing up. And growing up he was! As a kid and teenager, Bow Wow rapped about going to the mall, hanging out with friends, and girls. Today, he raps about these things, but from an older perspective. He also raps about social problems he feels strongly about. Bow Wow works with other artists on songs as well. Mario, JoJo, T.I., Ciara, Soulja Boy, and Omarion are just a few of the artists he has worked with.

Bow Wow also acts. He made his acting debut in 2002 with the movie Like Mike. Since then, Bow Wow has starred in several movies. He has also made appearances on TV shows like Moesha, Smallville, and Entourage. With the addition of an acting career, Bow Wow is now considered a popular crossover artist.

Bow Wow has come a long way since the six-year-old rapping onstage. The “Lil’” kid is now an adult who has nothing to do but continue climbing the road to stardom!

GarTh bRooks

The singer wore all black, from the top of his cowboy hat to the tips of his boots. He ran down the length of the stage and slid

onto his knees as the song ended. The audience cheered loudly at this country rock star.

Garth Brooks changed country music. Garth is a singer, guitarist, and songwriter. When he started out, his music was unlike other country music. It was infused with rock. Even Garth’s performances were different. Instead of standing still on the stage, he moved around and did theatrics. Fans loved it!

Garth was born on February 7, 1962, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It took two trips to Nashville for Garth to get his foot in the country music door. When he did, there was no shutting it.

Garth’s first album, Garth Brooks, came out in 1989. Four of its songs hit the country top 10. One of them was “The Dance.” It became Garth’s signature song.

Ropin’ the Wind was Garth’s third album. Before it was released, it had 4 million orders. It hit #1 on both the country and the pop charts. This was a first for a country album.

Garth is the #1 selling solo artist in U.S. history. He has sold over 128 million

albums. Songs like “Friends in Low Places,” “The Thunder Rolls,” and “The River” were big hits. Among Garth’s many awards are 2 Grammys, 11 CMAs, and 17 AMAs. Garth has also been named Artist of the Decade in the 1990s and Entertainer of the Year.

In 2000, Garth went into semi-retirement. Music was taking away his time with his family. Garth has three daughters. His wife is country singer Trisha Yearwood.

Since then, Garth has released some new songs. He has performed concerts for charity. Making music is still in Garth’s blood. It’s only a matter of time before he comes back in full force!

eric claPtoN

Eric Clapton is no stranger to heartache. This talented blues-rock musician has known his share of it. He grew up not

knowing his parents. He fell in love with a woman who didn’t love him back at the time. He started making bad choices in his life. It is no surprise then, that playing blues music comes naturally to Eric.

Eric was born on March 30, 1945, in England. At 13, Eric received a guitar for his birthday. By 16, he was playing guitar and listening to music more than he was studying for school! Eric started playing at pubs around England. He soon became the most talked-about guitarist on the circuit.

In 1963, Eric joined the Yardbirds. They played a mix of blues and rock. When they turned to different music, Eric joined the Bluesbreakers. Then he joined the group Cream. While playing with them, Eric hit superstar status. Eric put deep emotion into his own style of playing. This is what cemented him as one of rock’s leading guitarists.

Eric formed Derek and the Dominos in 1970. The band’s breakup in 1971 hit Eric hard. This was a dark period in his life. He got help, though. He now works to help people who have the same problems he did.

Eric re-launched his career in 1973. He established himself as a gifted blues-rock songwriter, singer, and guitarist. He released his own albums. He made songs with music legends like Carlos Santana, George Harrison, B.B. King, and more! The songs “Tears in Heaven,” “Change the World,” and “My Father’s Eyes” won Grammys. In all, Eric has won or shared 18 Grammys. His success as a solo artist earned him three inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

According to Rolling Stone, Eric is #4 on the list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time and #53 on the list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Not too shabby for a guy who plays the blues!

enrique IglesIas

While looking for a record label, Latin singer Enrique Iglesias tried using the last name “Martinez.” His dad

is singing star Julio Iglesias. Enrique wanted his music career to be based on his own talent, not his dad’s name. Over 10 years and 13 albums later, it’s clear that Enrique has that talent!

Enrique was born on May 8, 1975, in Spain. Enrique’s parents divorced when he was three. When he was eight, he went to live with his dad in Florida. There, he was around many cultures. You can hear the effect this had on him in his music. It has American, Latin, and

European styles. Enrique has sung in English and Spanish. He has also sung in Portuguese and Italian.

Enrique released his first album in 1995. It was called Enrique Iglesias. All the songs were in Spanish. The album was a big hit. It earned a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Performance. Enrique was on his way to being a Latin sensation.

Today, Enrique is a star in both the Latin and English music scenes. He has released albums in both Spanish and English. He has sold over 60 million records. Fans can’t get enough of songs like “Si Tú Te Vas,” “Bailamos,” “Be With You,” and “Escape.” Fans also can’t get enough of Enrique’s good looks. This singer has turned into a heartthrob, too!

While recording, Enrique tries not to make public appearances. He likes to focus on just his music. He has made some exceptions, though. In 2000, he co-produced an off-Broadway play. It was called Four Guys Named Jose and Una Mujer Named Maria. He has been on talk shows. He played a handyman in an episode of Two and a Half Men and has been in commercials. Enrique would like to take on more small acting parts, as long as they fit into his music schedule. Music is this star’s top priority!
