Every team will be offered a space every edition of the Newsletter to submit something funny... write about their game... whatever...and since we’re doing a newsletter every Tuesday of every week, you have plenty of time to come up with something! If your team doesn’t submit anything, and isn’t in the newsletter, talk to your captain!
Ideas for Team Submissions When I say, submit something for your team, here are some ideas: • Play by plays of the game • Document the debauchery at the bar - i.e. describing someone’s amazing acting skills hobbling across the bar with a “sprained ankle” just to Ice a teammate. ] • Draw pictures!!!!! • Favorite quotes, poems, song lyrics, movie scripts, YouTube video, or motivational speeches! • Email chains from the morning after . • Funny pictures of you, your team, or something random on the internet • Give your team member awards - drunkest, loudest, person with the least shame, best off the face catch, etc.! • Anything. Really. Someone on your team is creative.
Submissions are due EVERY Tuesday by 7 p.m.
Backyard Sports Club’s email is
[email protected]. I look forward to working with all of you!
** If you need extra time, email me and just let me know.
DISCLAIMER: if you have problems with keeping your language in check, not bashing refs, being overly nasty to other teams, and other no-no’s, the Editor does have the right to not include your write up in the newsletter if the content is deemed inappropriate or out of line. We will try to screen write ups as they are received, will try to let teams know so that they have time to resubmit, but there is no guarantee. The easiest thing to do is to keep it clean, be nice, and remember this is all in good fun.

Team write-ups
I knew from the get go that this game would be a tough one. This matched up last season’s tournament champs from the Beach and Norfolk against each oher. As usual, Wiffskey was out there early to get some practice in before the game and my team was running a little late….No big deal. I’m used to it. In the beginning the scores was tight only a couple runs within the first couple of innings. Make It Rain Defense stepped up and shut them down towards the latter innings of the game. Our bats also started to heat up. We were getting on base and the ladies of Make it Rain were hitting Dingers over the fence and absconded from home plate only to return back to it. It was a great game from both teams very intense. We appreciate the competition. We look forward again to playing you guys again.
Purple Bombers played a tough game. They ran up against a hot team in Make It Rain. Our bats did not cool down. Everyone was hitting all over the place and we took a lead and never relinquished it. Everyone on the Bombers tried hard but nothing was working. We look forward to seeing you guys again in the playoffs.
- Jon Reyes
Great job to everybody in the team winning a tough double header. Once again, our defense continues to be simply awesome and our bats keep wifflin'. Amy was a mean catching machine in the outfield, which in turn kept Mike "If David drops another infield hit I'll send him to right field" Mars fairly calm. Sabrina did her duty and covered for Beth, since she decided to bounce and go to watch the O's lose instead of winning wiffleball games with her team. Same goes for Bridget, sippin' on some Piña Coladas & Margaritas on some beach... pssssst! I lead by example, unless of course, there's a good concert in town, in which case Doug "The sometimes Captain" Werner takes over! Let's gitty up and win this tournament on Saturday!

Promoting Ball Awareness...Since 2008
Once a season we have that alignment of the stars when the right people show up with the right swings and the right mindset. This was that day. We had a solid team and wind must’ve REALLY been blowing out because somehow we were able to hit 11 home runs in this game. That is not typical at all so we felt pretty fortunate to have all that in our favor. Ball Busters had to play short on defense and take an auto out at the plate so it was an uphill battle from the start for them. I’ll give them credit, they came out swinging a hot bat and actually had the lead after the first inning. But in the end, we were able to put together a few big innings and move on to the next game.
A tough battle whenever these two teams get together. Usually the outcome is decided by Mike Mars bat. Thankfully for us, he was hardly hitting in this game. Unfortunately for us, his teammates decided to pick up where he left off. We were able to push 9 runs across the board but I think we used up all our home runs in the first game because we had a hard time getting the ball out of the yard. We had a chance in the end and loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth but just came up a hit or two shy from tying the game. Good game by both teams. looking forward to the playoffs.
- Will Buker
Great game played by both Da Bombers and Reck N Ballz. This was one of the best games Ive seen Da Bombers play. Reck n Ballz got of to a big lead and we managed to put together a great rally. Shout out to the entire team, especially Ashleigh T for her grand slam and Tom for his 3 run homer. Hats off to Charm and her team for a well played game. They brought their bats. Lastly, Happy Birthday Robbie!
Well this game was tough. Great job by Jon and his team for a game well played. They definitely put up some runs. Maybe we will see you again soon. Good job by Da Bombers as well, especially being able to play with full stomachs after we had a Bomber BBQ in between games. Thanks Tiffy for bringing the grub and Ash for grilling.!
- Gordon Boothe
Team write-ups Well, coming into this week we were super excited for our first double header of the season. We were looking forward to playing two great teams and having two great games; however Wiffskey Militia must have left their ‘A’ game at home because we sure did not come to play ball. Our first two innings at bat against Make It Rain ended with our first six batters and we were definitely discouraged, but then we got 6 runs in the third inning with Trip hitting a homer bring in 3 runs and John hitting another homer bringing in 3 more runs. We were back in the game, but it was just not our night and we couldn't’t score anything after that. Make it Rain had some great bats and were able to bring in some runs each inning and we just could not catch up. Great game Make it Rain, we look forward to hopefully playing you again in the championships!
As for our second game of the night…well there just is not much to say. We could not hit the ball if our life depended on it! We were definitely in a funk! This is just not like us at all. We only batted around twice the entire 6 innings and we could not score a single run. Down Wiff It had their hitting down and scored 10 runs on us in the first three innings. We were able to hold them to that, but it was not enough. Great Job Down Wiff It, we hope to see you as well again, but we plan to bring our ‘A’ game next time and hopefully have a much more exciting game!

WIFFSKEY MILITIA
Another close game but alas, another loss. Congrats to Holey Balls , they played good D all game. They had a couple of dingers which ended up being the difference in the game. I do love our fight and I'm confident we will surprise some people this week. Kudos to our ladies who hit well this week. Us guys were definitely the weakness offensively. Congrats to Kevin V for winning charity event with Jons team on Saturday even tho I'm sure he contracted some kind of disease drinking out of the trophy after 9 other people. U represented well my friend. And special thanks to Holey Balls for adopting me for one day. Great second place run!

Team write-ups Now this is the write up all about how The Pitches and Hoes won somehow And I'd like to take a minute just sit right there But before I get started; hey Krysta, nice hair ;-) A little late to the game, but there to save the crew Out to the field came Trey, Curtis and Drew Chillin’ out, maxin’ and havin some fun Then up to the plate Bill nails a homerun Trent had a sweet catch and a graceful fall And Kasey got a double when she cracked that ball We had Kelly in the outfield with holes in her arms Maybe our cheerleaders were the good luck charm We were missin’ some players, Mike, Josh and Matt We did pretty good though with Mama Price at the bat We owe lots of thanks to our awesome coach Jen And the motivational yells from our catcher Brian We got a few runs, I’m pretty sure it was eight Thanks to Chris Snyder for throwin’ pitches to the plate The ref called an out, the game was finally done Good game Ball Busters but the Pitches and Hoes won! -Lyrics by Casey Medved to the tune of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Pitches &
Hoes
What can I say….we had a rough day! We thought we had this game against Da Bombers. We came in strong the first couple innings, but the Bombers never gave up, and they came back to take the game. Shout out to Tullar for doing what she does best and hitting a grand slam. I think our defense fell apart after this game changing hit. Thanks Ashley! But great game, and we hope to see ya’ll in the playoffs!

When running to first base, remember to run across the outside base. The reason for this is so the first baseman doesn’t crush you trying to tag you out. However, if you’re running to 2nd, you can touch 1st base and book it to 2nd.
Wiffle Ball
Well, since no one wants to read the official Backyard Sports Club Wiffle Ball rules, here is a simple Wiffle Ball for Dummies to help you out as the season starts out!
NO SLIDING! NO CLEATS! Unless the ground is wet!
NO GLASS BOTTLES! NO SMOKING!
Wiffle Ball
MOST IMPORTANTLY….DO NOT, DO NOT THROW YOUR TRASH
BAGS WITH EMPTY CANS OR BOXES OF “ADULT BEVERAGES” INTO THE TRASH RECEPTICALS THEY HAVE AT THE FIELDS.
These DO NOT Go Into the Trash Cans at the Fields:
The Field Manager has already warned us about this, and if he has to tell us one more time, he
will take away our drinking privileges at the fields…or worse, he can end up kicking us off these fields all together! So PLEASE take your trash bag full of cans, cups,
and boxes with you!!!
The Dos and DONTs • DO NOT bring alcoholic beverages to the field….or at least be discreet about it! • DO clean up after yourselves! Unfortunately, maid service was cut out of Backyard
Sports Club’s budget due to the economy. • DO be friendly to the Refs: Please do not yell at them…just remember, you’re the one
that will look like a jerk if you yell at them. • DO NOT be “that guy.” We do not own Uno Chicago Grill or the premises around it; so
when you do something stupid, you’re not excluded from any laws just because you are wearing a Backyard Sports Club t-shirt.
• DO NOT leave a fellow wiffleballer behind; we take care of our own. Don’t let your
teammate drink like a champ and drive home. Find the closest decent looking guy/gal, introduce them, and have them go home together.
• DO NOT be bitter. It’s super important that if you end up having a “sleep over” with a
fellow wiffleballer, be cool with them for weeks to follow. We’re a small community, you’re gonna end up seeing them all season! When they drop you off at your car, hug it out, smile…and say “hi” the following week.
• DO NOT try to guess that persons name! • DO go to our sponsor Bar, Uno Chicago Grill. It’s what the cool kids are doing. • DO NOT fight! This is a fun league, HAVE FUN! If you fight, fun’s over for you, you’ll be
kicked out. • DO always wear your Backyard Sports Club shirt. I know laundry once a week may be
too much, so it’s cool if you go a couple weeks without washing….unless you’ve got bad B.O. like Robbie Wright!
• DO NOT smoke at the fields!
