Double Pitcher Contests
Every team will be offered a space every edition of theNewsletter to submit something funny... write abouttheir game... whatever...and since we’re doing anewsletter every Tuesday of every week, you haveplenty of time to come up with something! If yourteam doesn’t submit anything, and isn’t in thenewsletter, talk to your captain!
Ideas for Team SubmissionsWhen I say, submit something for your team, here are some ideas:• Play by plays of the game• Document the debauchery at the bar - i.e. describing someone’s
amazing acting skills hobbling across the bar with a “sprained ankle” just to Ice a teammate. ]
• Draw pictures!!!!!• Favorite quotes, poems, song lyrics, movie scripts, YouTube
video, or motivational speeches!• Email chains from the morning after .• Funny pictures of you, your team, or something random on the
internet• Give your team member awards - drunkest, loudest, person
with the least shame, best off the face catch, etc.!• Anything. Really. Someone on your team is creative.
Submissions are due EVERY Tuesday by 9 p.m.
Backyard Sports Club’s email is [email protected]. I look forward to
working with all of you!
** If you need extra time, email me and just let me know.
DISCLAIMER: if you have problems with keeping your language in check, not bashing refs, being overly nasty to other teams, and other no-no’s,the Editor does have the right to not include your write up in thenewsletter if the content is deemed inappropriate or out of line. We willtry to screen write ups as they are received, will try to let teams know sothat they have time to resubmit, but there is no guarantee. The easiestthing to do is to keep it clean, be nice, and remember this is all in goodfun.

Congrats to the Wiffskey Milita and Colin Shields for chugging his beer like a champ thus winning last

Team write-ups
Exactly 10 showed up for MIR. I hope this is thishappens every week for us. If not we will be short.Da Bombers are a great team. They Ashley theBomb over the fence Tullar, so if we can keeprunners off base that will limit their scoringchances. MIRs line-up has been up and down thisseason. We are still looking to find our groove. Theiris a lot of potential there with this group. MIR tookthe early lead in this game and never looked back.We played good defense and hit the ball. This was agreat game for us to get back into our groove. Welook to seeing you guys again Bombers.
I wasn't sure how this game was going to end.Clown Babies have all types of good players. Thisgame came down to who had the better defense.Everyone was hitting the ball but MIR held theirground and played good D. I did see a lucky catchout there for Jordan; while she was talking smack inthe outfield. She got lucky and caught a ball out ofno where to prevent several scores from coming in.In the end MIR made the babies cry a little.
- Jon Reyes
Are first game of the night was against Down Wiff It. Wow, whatcan I say? That team is really Down Wiff It. This was tough game, the wind was blowing all over the place, and the ball was blowingright to our opponents. There was many scoreless innings in thisgame as it was a defensive battle. Unfortunately, we were on theshort end of this stick. I hope we get another chance to dance withthe tie dye team.
Game 2 for us was against Da Bombers. We love playing DaBombers, because they are family. Finally the wind slowed up andthe bats decided to come out to play. We got back on track withthe help of many key players. Colin, Carolyn, Jess, Dyan and Joe allled us to victory by going 3 for 3. Also, Joe had an unassisteddouble play. Way to go Joe! As a bonus, John came off thedisabled list. It was nice to have him back.

Team write-ups
We played a short handed Rec 'N Ballz team onthe tiny field. I was certain balls would be flyingout of the yard left and right. We welcomed backAngel who'd been playing in the CaribbeanWiffleball leagues all winter. His first at bat was agrand slam and his second was a 2 run homer. I'mglad our Island scouts found him. Play of the daywas Robbie taking a relay throw from left fieldand gunning me down at home plate... byHITTING ME IN THE HEAD!!!! Good game by all,was a lot of fun as always.
Probably the worst defensive game we've playedin three seasons. Even if the errors had turned toouts, I still don't think we would've had enoughoffense to win. Both facets of the game escapedus for this annual "Chop-a-Thon". I'm pleased toannounce that neither myself nor James Salgadostayed exclusive to the chop for this game. I'mproud of the professional growth. Thanks to HoleyBalls, we've now extended our streak ofconsistently average play. we've gone 1-1 everyweek and stand at an even 3-3 for the season.Looking forward to another split this week!

Promoting Ball Awareness...Since 2008
Wiff Alotta This is finally showing what we aremade of! We got some solid hits, scored runs, and had a blast. We’ve found out what wewere missing: jello shots! A few shots in andwe were rollin’! Vince hit a home run and wewere very close to winning our second gameuntil a few errors gave the other team someruns! We had the lead going into the finalinning and couldn’t hold onto it unfortunately! This week’s opponents better watch outbecause we are comin!

Team write-ups
Make it rain: 9-19We started off a little rusty but got it together towards the late inningshowever it was not enough to beat Make it Rain. Shoutout to Ashley Burres, at pitcher, fortaking a hard hit to the knee, which created quite the commotion. Welcome back KevinVona, fresh from the disabled list and fit right in at shortstop and had a couple good hitsalso. Shoutout to Tom as well with the inside the park homerun!! We definitely neededthose runs to catch up!
Its always fun playing our extended family, Wiffsky Militia. The game was tight for the firstfew innings. We played well from a great catch by KP, and good fielding by Kevin and Mike.We lost Derrick to a separated shoulder (yep in Wiffle Ball) but he will be back. Also, welcome the newest member to our team, Lauren! (She is accepting free batting lessonsfrom cute guys) Shout out to the Militia fam for a great game!!
- Ashleigh Tullar
Rec N’ Ballz settled for a split on a cold Thursday eveningwith strong winds crossing the fields. We lost our firstmatch-up against a tough Sons of Pitches team, whodisplayed a solid defense as well as timely hitting. I thinktheir shortstop had about 6 RBIs on 2 homers. TimmyBritt kept us in the game with a Grand Slam, but we stillfell short a couple runs (9-7 score, maybe? I don't know).
In the nightcap, we pounced on Whiff Alotta This earlyand never looked back, earning our 4th win on theseason. Hopefully we'll be able to put together two goodgames this coming Thursday.
- Robbie Wright
Vs. Down Wiff It. We got 9 runs in the first inning and neverlooked back. As always, we relied on our base hits andagressive base running. Our defense handled the rest. Goodgame by everyone.
Vs. Sons of Pitches. Chicks...and guys did the short game. Our base hits found the holes and ripped through the Sonsof Pitches defense. Holey Balls does great when we arefacing the wind and we definitely capitalized on it. Greatgame by all.

Imagine an afternoon baseball game…
A Player hits the ball and heads for first
base………
Imagine teammates cheering…..
Now picture the player in a wheelchair.
Imagine all the players are children with
disabilities…….
The Annual Little League Baseball Worldwide
Challenger Jamboree held in Norfolk, Virginia is
a very special event that enables boys & girls
ages 5-18 with physical and mental challenges to
enjoy the game of baseball along with the millions
of other children who participate in the sport
worldwide. The Jamboree gives kids the
opportunity to socialize in a positive atmosphere to
play baseball rather than watch from the stands as
others play. This innovative event makes it
possible for every child to participate in a
structured athletic program regardless of their
disability. EVERY KID DESERVES TO PLAY!
Challenger Little League Gives Kids a
Chance to…..Play Ball!
In 1896, the Norfolk City Union of The King's
Daughters was formed to provide health care for
indigent mothers and their children. In 1961, The
King's Daughters established Children's Hospital
of The King's Daughters exclusively for children.
Today the hospital is a comprehensive health care
center, still carrying on the tradition of the founding
King's Daughters to treat all children who need the
special care available only at CHKD.
Children are admitted for routine illnesses as well
as complex conditions and injuries. CHKD
provides the highest designation of neonatal
intensive care in our region as well as specialty
units for pediatric intensive care, rehabilitation,

Wiffle Ball
Well, since no one wants to read the official Backyard Sports Club Wiffle Ball rules, here is a simple Wiffle Ball for Dummies to help you out as the season starts out!
PLAY OF GAME• Rotation. Players may rotate from one field position to
another.
• Each Captain is to provide the opposing team a batting
order prior to start of the game.
• Team must bat in order, if not batter out of turn will be
automatically out.
• 6 innings equal a normal game. A 20 run rule is in
effect after four complete innings.
• Three outs per inning for each team.
• Team pitches to themselves: 3 pitches for males, 5
pitches for females.
• Bunting is illegal and will not be permitted.
• No Walks
• No Stealing
• Pegging is allowed. If there is contact to the head or
face the runner will be awarded the base.
• Tagging up is allowed. Runner can leave base once the
fielder has touched the ball.
• Runner must wait for the ball to be hit before leaving
base.
• Pinch Runner. An injured player may receive a pinch
runner after he/she reaches first base. The last player
out of the preceding inning becomes the pinch runner.
Batting• Batting. Everyone on a team must bat.
• Running. Runners must stay within the base line and
fielders must stay out of the base line. Fielders trying to
make an out on the base may have their foot on base,
but must lean out of the baseline to avoid contact with
the runner. Runners hindered by any fielder within the
base line shall be safe at the base to which they were
running.
• Scoring Plate. The incoming base runner must tag
home plate located behind the batter’s box. To tag a
runner out at home plate, the catcher must stand on
home plate for a force out or be tagged with the ball prior
to touching home plate.
The Calls• Out. A count of three outs concludes the other team’s
half of an inning. An out occurs when:
The count reaches three strikes
A player is touched by the ball at any point
while not on base
A runner who is on the same base with another
runner is tagged by the ball.
A hit ball, foul or fair, is caught in the air
A fielder tags a base to which a runner is force
to run
A runner is off the base when the ball is hit
A player slides into a base.
A player leads off or steals. Runners may only
leave their bases after the ball is hit.
The batter can strike out only if he/she swings
at a pitched ball and does not foul tip the third
strike.
A foul tip backwards that is caught above the
catchers shoulder.
Fly Balls. If a fly ball is caught in foul territory
after the third strike, the ball remains live.
• Home Run. A ball that clears the fence in the outfield
and is within the foul poles will be an automatic home
run.
• Dead Ball. The umpire will automatically call a dead
ball when the ball reaches the pitcher, so long as the
pitcher is standing on the mound. All runners who are
less than halfway between bases must return to their
previous base, and all runners who are more than
halfway between bases may proceed to the next base.
• Infield Fly Rule: No infield
fly rule will be called.
The Extra BaseWhen running to first base, remember to run across the outside base. The reason for this is so the first baseman doesn’t crush you trying totag you out. However, if you’re running to 2nd, you can touch 1st baseand book it to 2nd.
Wiffle Ball
Well, since no one wants to read the official Backyard Sports Club Wiffle Ball rules, here is a simple Wiffle Ball for Dummies to help you out as the season starts out!
NO SLIDING! NO CLEATS! Unless the ground is wet!
NO GLASS BOTTLES! NO SMOKING!
Wiffle Ball
MOST IMPORTANTLY….DO NOT, DO NOT THROW YOUR TRASH
BAGS WITH EMPTY CANS OR BOXES OF “ADULT BEVERAGES” INTO THE TRASH RECEPTICALS THEY HAVE AT THE FIELDS.
These DO NOT Go Into the Trash Cans at the Fields:
The Dos and DONTswww.backyardsportsclub.com
• DO NOT bring alcoholic beverages to the field….or at least be discreet about it!
• DO clean up after yourselves! Unfortunately, maid service was cut out of Backyard Sports Club’s budget due to the economy.
• DO be friendly to the Refs: Please do not yell at them…just remember, you’re the one that will look like a jerk if you yell at them.
• DO NOT be “that guy.” We do not own Uno Chicago Grill or the premises around it; so when you do something stupid, you’re not excluded from any laws just because you are wearing a Backyard Sports Club t-shirt.
• DO NOT leave a fellow wiffleballer behind; we take care of our own. Don’t let your teammate drink like a champ and drive home. Find the closest decent looking guy/gal, introduce them, and have them go home together.
• DO NOT be bitter. It’s super important that if you end up having a “sleep over” with a fellow wiffleballer, be cool with them for weeks to follow. We’re a small community, you’re gonna end up seeing them all season! When they drop you off at your car, hug it out, smile…and say “hi” the following week.
• DO NOT try to guess that persons name!
• DO go to our sponsor Bar, Uno Chicago Grill. It’s what the cool kids are doing.
• DO NOT fight! This is a fun league, HAVE FUN! If you fight, fun’s over for you, you’ll be kicked out.
• DO always wear your Backyard Sports Club shirt. I know laundry once a week may be too much, so it’s cool if you go a couple weeks without washing….unless you’ve got bad B.O. like Robbie Wright!
• DO NOT smoke at the fields!
**DISCLAIMER** Nothing in the Backyard Sports Club Newsletter is to be taken seriously, except for the schedules and scores!
Please send scores, recaps, pictures, questions, funny quotes, and/or any information that you would like to be added into the week’s newsletter to [email protected]

For this week’s catch, I am proud to present Lee Warner, or better yet known as Squishy. Lee, thecaptain of Wiff Alotta This, has a big personality, is an unnecessarily enthusiastic George Mason fan anddoubles as Steve Urkel in his spare time. Despite the fact that he holds down multiple jobs, he alwaysmakes time for the frequent bar appearance. If you were to go out with him, expect plenty of free shotsof Fireball because he somehow knows every single bartender in the area. He might even take you outfor a good night of boot-scoot-boogying and share his excellent taste in music with you. Make sure youpack your travel-size trombone on your date, because Lee enjoys a goodnight serenade. If you are luckyenough to be with him the next morning, you will without a doubt hear the words “I am never drinkingagain.” Whatever you do though, do not take him to get Mexican for hangover food. Lee is a great guyand a wonderful friend, but he definitely has a wild side. Don’t worry though, if he bites you, it will mostlikely be an accident… Ladies, you should definitely get to know Lee. He can’t wait to tell you howbeautiful you are!

So….I obviously lost control of the camera Thursday night. I gave it to JoeEquitan to take pictures, but apparently it landed into the hands of a ClownBaby..hmmmm, I wonder how that happened. When I went to transfer allthe pictures I noticed only 1 color…Baby Blue. Sorry for the lack of pictures, but the camera died, I’m guessing from the Clown Babies taking 1000s ofpictures of themselves and deleting it cause maybe it didn’t come out totheir liking or something. Way to go Clowns for killing the camera!
