• A collaboration of community partners focused on improving and supporting an East Side neighborhood facing considerable challenges

• Began in 2008 with a commitment to bring safety, jobs and affordable housing to the area

• Located in the neighborhood, Harmac is the main anchor, investor and lead collaborator

Groundwork Market Garden

• Urban farm established in 2015 serving neighborhood, farmers markets, restaurants

• 40K sq. ft. building purchased in 2017 for cold storage, admin and tenant leases

• Crowdsourcing used to complete hoop greenhouse; current yield of 300 pounds tomatoes/week.

• CSA program increased; community farm stand underway

• Organic Certification expected by May 2018.

• Pursuing $40K grant for further development through New Farmers Fund / Empire State Development.

Society for the Advancement of Construction Related Arts (SACRA)

• SACRA trains students on construction, renovation skills.

• First class of 12 students graduated from SACRA’s pilot program in January 2018.

• 67% job placement rate w/ average pay $13/hour + full benefits

• Almost 30% higher than Dept. of Social Services w/ target of 40%

• Second class began February 14th

• The historic “Wende Cottage” planned as future training workshop for student-interns.

Urban Fruits & Veggies Hydroponic Greenhouses

• Provide community education for cultivating and preparing fresh food

• Plan to build raised bed community garden, (2) three-bay hydroponic greenhouses and wellness center.

• 24’ x 72’ greenhouses with necessary electrical & geothermal set up for year round harvests

• Harvest begins 90-120 days after planting; revenue generation for sustainability.

• HQ property needs rehab, $60K for materials; planned move in Fall 2018

Summary

• Habitat For Humanity continues with additional new home builds in 2018, acquisition requests submitted to the City for 2019 plans.

• Groundwork Market Garden is expanding product-line, moving forward with building renovation & organic certification.

• SACRA second round of training program in session & rehab of Bailey Green future training site underway.

• Urban Fruits & Veggies moving forward with building first hydroponic greenhouse - 2018.

• Ongoing improvements planned; including lit walkways and community park adjacent to Peacemakers HQ.

• Establishing new partnerships while existing partnerships continue to flourish.
