at the beginning of the year.

Various activities decided upon in the beginning of the session were completed.

Details provided in Section A of the report

7.3 Give two Best Practices of the institution (please see the format in the NAAC Self-

study Manuals)

Spiritual Quotient

Man is a spirit being and we are a conglomerate of body, soul and spirit. More like an

iceberg, the real self is hidden and neglected but more focus and attention is given to enhance

and groom the body and the soul. The intellectual capacity of man is catered to, but the

emotional and life balance skills are neglected. In the present age of high stress, higher demand

on achievement and success leads to emptiness, devoid and deep anxiety amongst all. Therefore,

to cater to this part of the self that is the spirit being, the college undertakes various programmes

to help grow in the outward inward journey.

I - Title of the Practice – Daily Assembly

Objective of the Practice:

The purpose of the practice is to give equal opportunity to every student to come on the stage

and fight the public speaking fear, thus removing hesitation and building confidence. Secondly

to develop discipline, reverence for every religion and faith, be updated with current affairs and

learn the practice of oneness with self and universe.

The Practice:

The first years assemble in the Prerna hall in two different shifts. Science and Arts in the

morning shift and Commerce & Management in the afternoon shift.

Each class gets a day to present the assembly thus once a week a class gets the opportunity to be

on stage. The components of assembly are: Comparers who introduce the assembly with opening

song; the meditation, thought of the day/motivational talk, quiz/ amazing facts, news and

campus news, and finally the Madhya Pradesh song/ national song/national anthem. The national

pledge is taken on Fridays with the National anthem.

Value Education classes: Every Friday Value education classes are conducted for all the

classes. Various topics like: Life Skills, Philosophy of Great Indian Leaders, National Values,

Family values, Personal values, Youth Problems etc.

Page 41: The Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) of the IQAC 2013-14103.91.62.110/ftp/AQAR/AQAR 2013-14 IQAC SAC.pdf · 2016-12-16 · St. Aloysius College(Autonomous), Jabalpur, AQAR 2013-14

St. Aloysius College(Autonomous), Jabalpur, AQAR 2013-14 Page 41

Mentoring Programme- where faculty members are assigned a set of students to take care and

mentor them. The faulty member meets with the student at least twice a semester meets with

them. Apart from that the faculty member regularly listen- talk, counsels, advice, encourages,

motivates and takes interest in the growth of the student.

Evidence of Success:

The feedback received from the pass out students unanimously voice that the daily assemblies

have been the building block for their confidence and success. They have learnt values of

discipline, pride for the country, civic responsibility, empathy and reverence for all faiths. Their

personalities have enhanced and have imbibed, that YOU CAN IF YOU THINK YOU CAN.

The students are assessed by panel of faculty members in each shift every semester and students

are awarded and honoured for their excellence in various components of the assembly.

Problems Encountered and Resources Required:

Discipline if imbibed through external force or external motivation always encounters resistance

but consistence and continuous practice of the same makes it individualized habit. Therefore the

resistance to change encountered at the beginning of the session is greater but with time it

becomes easily accepted.

II -Title of the Practice – Daily Staff Meeting

Objective of the Practice:

The Principal and the staff daily meet at the tea time for formal get together. The purpose is to

disseminate information, share their innovative practice, applaud and encourage the

achievements of students and faculty, discuss issues of importance and concern for collective

wisdom, share new techniques and practices of teaching and learning.

Practice:

Each department functions independently and autonomously therefore, the practice of having

daily staff meeting increases interpersonal relations, develops an ambience of excellence and

learning attitude, it also builds cooperation and team spirit. Every faculty member by their turns

share a two minute motivational talk to keep the spirits high. Meditation undertaken at every

Staff Council Meet- is known as ‘Rendezvous With Self And The Divine’.

Page 42: The Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) of the IQAC 2013-14103.91.62.110/ftp/AQAR/AQAR 2013-14 IQAC SAC.pdf · 2016-12-16 · St. Aloysius College(Autonomous), Jabalpur, AQAR 2013-14

Onward Inward Journey programme are organized for the teachers to assess their strengths

and weakness and prepare Plan of Action to improvise their areas of concerns. It’s a programme

to enhance all the dexterities and challenge oneself in the expanse of knowledge, wisdom,

understanding, life skills, self-awareness and self enhancement. It endeavours to improvise and

build competencies, skills, self-beating attitude and have an Aha experience namely every year

Nobel laureates contribution at the time of declaration of awards, book-reviews, special lectures

by eminent scientist and professors on the contribution to research, teaching and learning

technique, innovative steps adopted by other faculty.

Evidences of Success:

The evidences of success are seen in continuous personal growth of staff as well as institutional

growth. Team work, mark of excellence in everything, informed staff which is always motivated

and diligent. Strong work culture and ethics seen.

Problems Encountered and Resources Required:

Due to time restraint, the staff meeting has to be done within the time constraint; otherwise it

encroaches on the timetable of class.

As the prime institution in Central India of imparting knowledge to youth, the

College is always striving to update itself. The College has an established

mechanism of feedback from different levels as students, parents, peer group

and alumni, so that course correction may be appropriately taken care of.

• The students have stressed in their feedback for the introduction of new

courses such as Honours course in Commerce, B.A. in computer application, that

are job oriented and help them to compete globally. Alumni have assured the

College of their cooperation in the prospective implementation of such courses

and allied schemes.

• Another crucial feedback has been given by the alumni that has suggested

better and live linkages with industry. Students have in various ways suggested

the initiation of MOUs with industry and market for the sake of better

employability, and in this regard the College Placement Cell has made

commendable progress and many departments have conducted industrial tours

for the students.

• There has been a specific feedback from the students regarding organization of

on-site training and live interaction with experts on varied fields with esteemed

institutes. The College has taken several steps in this regard e.g. Interaction

Programme and Global Understanding Programme conducted by institutes like

East Carolina University, USA.
