From Our Pastor
A Unity Opportunity Approximately 2000 years ago, Jesus prayed for you and me. It was just before His crucifixion. He prayed specifically for us to be united. The words of His prayer to the Father were: "…that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us… that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them…." Our unity has a powerful effect. As we come together in unity and love for one another, the world will believe that Jesus was sent by the Father and that the Father loves them! What a remarkable outcome just from our unity! And we have an opportunity to be a model of unity for the entire Mississippi Baptist Convention on October 28
th. I want to
encourage you to take part in the Associational Unity Choir on October 28
th at First Baptist Jackson. It will require that you clear
your calendar for that day, as our final rehearsal will take place in Jackson at 11:45a.m. and the performance will be at about 4pm. One of our Assocation's pastors, Mark Vincent, will be sharing a message to the Convention about unity, and the visual of our Association united in Christ as a choir will be a great picture of what God wants to do in every Southern Baptist church and association and convention. In today's society, where we are seeing more and more "fracturing" of our churches and denominations, we need to rally together to display the unity we find in Christ. I will be singing with the choir, and I hope you will join us. Randy has just begun practices on Wednesdays at 6pm to work on the Association Unity music. Come join us for practice and plan to participate with us at the Convention. (And if you take part in the 4pm choir, we also hope you will stay and join us for the evening session of the Convention, too!)
I Love You! --Brian
P.S. I'd love for you to receive my additional weekly email devotions. To begin receiving them, contact me or go to
www.brianrushing.net to sign up.
