The first winter in America was very cold. The pilgrims did not have much food. The Pilgrims got sick? Many pilgrims died. It was a terrible time.

Thanksgiving in our time

Families gather for a big meal, so there is a big week-end with two bank holidays, Thursday and Friday. They eat turkey, typical pumpkin pie and typical cramberry sauce.

The Traditions

In New York and just in New York, there is a big parade. This is a grand tradition.

The second big tradition is that the president pardons the turkey. So, there was a lucky turkey that will not end up on the Thanksgiving table !!!!!
