Burton enters his fourth season as head coach. He is the eighth coach in program history. The Lions are coming off of a 20-9 season, their second consecutive winning season. It was the second most wins in a season in program history. The team lost in the first round of the LSC Tournament.

Burton’s 50 wins and .581 winning percentage are both program highs for a coach during their first three seasons. He has the fourth most wins by a coach in program history and has the highest winning percentage of any coach in program history.

The Lions went 16-13 in Burton’s second season, their first winning season since the 2008-09 season. The team lost in the first round of the LSC Tournament.

Burton led the Lions to a 14-14 season in his first year as coach, becoming the first coach in program history to finish the season at .500 or better in their first season. The team advanced to the second round of the LSC Tournament.

During his tenure, 10 of his players have received All-Conference honors. Three of his players have earned All-Defensive team honors. Under his tutelage, Princess Davis was named LSC Freshman of the Year in 2014-15 and earned Freshman All-American honors from the WDIIB. Jenna Price was named Freshman of the Year in 2016-17.

Burton began his coaching career at A&M-Commerce. He was an assistant coach for the men’s team under head coach Sam Walker, working in recruiting. The team had a 68-43 record during his four seasons and Burton helped recruit three All-American selections, two LSC Newcomers of the Year, seven All-Conference players and two LSC Freshman of the Year. He was promoted to associate head coach in his third season and held that position for two years. The team went 37-17 in those two years.

Burton then went on to be an assistant coach at Texas State for two years before taking a head coaching position at McKinney Boyd High School. He coached there one season before taking the position as women’s head basketball coach at Texas A&M-Commerce in 2014.

Burton received his BA in Business Administration and Management from Austin College in 2007. He obtained his MBA in the same field from A&M-Commerce in 2009.
