A Word From Your MPLast month the Chancellor of the Exchequer gave his budget statement to the House of Commons. This Budget is part of our long-term economic plan to reduce the deficit by such means as reforming the welfare system. It is also about giving economic security to the families of Britain. At the centre of this year’s budget is support for those who wish to save; it will help those who want to save for a home, save for their family or save for their retirement. As part of this we are merging cash and stocks ISAs into a single new version and increasing the annual ISA limit to £15,000. This will make ISAs simpler and will make saving in them more flexible than before. The Government is on the side of hardworking people and the budget reflects this as we will increase the personal allowance again in 2015/2016, so that £10,500 can be earned in income before taxation begins. People who have worked hard and saved hard all their lives will now be trusted with their own finances. The Government will completely change the tax treatment of defined contribution pensions to bring it into line with the modern world. From March 27th, the Government cut the income requirement for flexible drawdown from £20,000 to £12,000, raise the capped drawdown limit from 120% to 150%, and almost double the total pension savings you can take as a lump sum to £30,000. This budget is also about showing that we are on the side of manufacturers, creating a Britain that makes things again. We are cutting the cost of manufacturing by cutting the cost of energy bills for manufacturers. We are doubling the Annual Investment Allowance to £500,000 and delivering the most competitive export finance in Europe by doubling the government lending available to exporters to £3 billion and cutting the typical interest rate on it by a third.Forecasts show that growth and employment are up while the deficit is down, what I have concerned myself with in this article is a small part of the budget which aims to support savers, reward those who work and promote manufacturing so that we can secure Britain’s economic future.
