Terms• Fascism-a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce,etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.

• Elite- is a small group of people who control a disproportionate amount of wealth and/or political power. The elite in modern U.S. society consists of the highest ranking members of the corporate community, academia, politicians, media editors, military service personnel, and high-profile journalists.

• Communism- a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.

• Socialism- any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods. Between Communism & Capitalism.

• Capitalist Democracy- is a political, economic, and social system and ideology based on a tripartite arrangement of a market-based economy based predominantly on a democratic polity, economic incentives through free markets, fiscal responsibility and a liberal moral-cultural system which encourages pluralism.

Hitler's Rise to Power • Started his political career in 1919, with no previous qualifications • Before joining the army and being awarded the Iron Cross he was a drifter and a artist. (was never promoted in the army because he lacked leadership qualities)• First joined the German Workers Party (tiny group of extreme nationalist anti-Semites) • He took over this party in 1921 and renamed it National Socialist German Workers Party. (Became largest party in Germany within 12 years)

How Did He Gain Power?• He claimed he would run a democratic government

• In 1929 the German Economy collapsed because America could not lend it any more money

• Thousands of Germans lost their jobs and in the election of 1932 Hitler promised to provide jobs, fix the economy, and make Germans proud again

• Political Parties thought they could control Hitler and Paul Von Hindenburg appointed him Chancellor

How Did He Gain Power?

•Hitler held new elections and set the Reichstag on fire (blamed it on communists)

• Many Germans feared Communists and felt Hitler and Nazi’s could protect them so they voted him into power

• Hitler banned other political parties
