Hello KSPS families, Welcome to back to Term 4. We have hit the ground running this term with lots of great learning happening in our classrooms and all programs well underway. The year is flying by and we have accomplished a great deal in terms of student learning and school community events. This term will be no exception, we have a great deal planned and lots to look forward to. Congratulations to Tim East and Bec Scott for their respective nominations for Primary Teacher of the Year and Support Staff Member of the Year. This is a reflection of the passion and dedication they give to their roles in working with our students and supporting them being the best they can be. Regional winners in these categories will be announced at World Teachers Day celebrations next Friday. Congratulations to Jay Wuttke and Charli McWhirter for their selection in the NT Touch Team and they travel to Hobart on Friday to compete in the Australian Championships. We wish them both all the best and hope they enjoy their experience, both on and off the field! Students from years 1 - 6 will be completing their PAT testing over the next two weeks. This is a follow up from Term 1 where all students undertook these tests in Maths and Reading. It is another way of showing the growth the students have made over the year and provides our teachers and the school with valuable data on student progress. I have already had parents enquire about classes for 2019. I will not be able to answer questions at this stage regarding teachers and class groupings until later in the term. I am currently finalising the KSPS workforce plan, and when enrolment predictions and staff are finalised I will let you know. To assist with this process, if families know they are moving from Katherine and students wont be at school next year, can you please let us know through the front office or via email so we can get a better picture of our enrolment numbers. Our school garden and herb garden are going great guns’, Miss Lisa from the canteen goes down every morning to pick fresh produce to add to the menu for the day. Seth provided me a taste of some of our herbs yesterday – the garlic chives, basil and chocolate mint are stand outs . Fresh herbs will be available to families through the front office, but we need to wait for Miss Grieves and the gardenersto finalise how this will workwatch this space! A BIG thank you to everyone who helps out with the garden, but special thanks to Mel Whelan and Liz Clark for their ongoing efforts, support and guidance. fun for our students and a great fundraiser for our School Council! We hope to see you all there

I encourage all families to consider the following information regarding the Meningococcal vaccine: All Territorians aged from 1 year to 19 years of age are encouraged to have the free Meningococcal ACWY vaccine. Meningococcal disease is a rare

disease, but it develops very quickly and can lead to serious complications, including death. Prevention of the disease with the vaccination is the best way to protect our children. The free vaccine covering Meningococcal ACWY strains is available at your local health centre or GP. Meningococcal B vaccination is also recommended, although this strain is less common in the NT. The vaccine can be purchased privately, with a prescription from your local

doctor. For more information about Meningococcal disease and vaccination follow the link: https://nt.gov.au/wellbeing/health-conditions-treatments/bacterial/meningococcal-disease Have a great week, Karen Taylor Acting Principal

BOOKCLUB

Bookclub will be given out this week and is due back at school on Monday 22nd October

Bookclub is a great fundraising tool as our school receives 20% commission for any purchases made. Parent/guardian, teacher and student support has

enabled us to purchase some great resources.

Firstly, we would like to acknowledge the hard work and assistance from Mr Nils, Miss Brenda, Mrs Beckett and our parent help in our classroom, much appreciated. Please come and see our assembly this week, 3/4 Brand have been busy choreographing their dance but it will be the teachers that will be doing all the hard work for us on the day! This term we are looking forward to our Geography unit on the African and South American continents and learning all there is to know on procedures, letter writing and poetry. “3/4 Brand, We Are So Grand!”
