Principal’s Message
Education Week
We will celebrate Education Week on Thursday, 8 August. Our school community is invited to a breakfast barbecue
in our school quad commencing at 7:30 am. Students in both junior and senior choirs will perform in the quad at
9:00 am. Following the performance, you are invited to visit your child’s classroom between 9:00 am and 10:00 am.
NAIDOC Celebrations
Members of the Aboriginal Committee have worked closely with Aboriginal students to organise the NAIDOC
celebrations. The morning commenced with an assembly that was led by a number of our Aboriginal students. The
students spoke proudly and shared their culture. The assembly was followed by various activities including dancing,
making fish nets and eating Johnnycakes. Congratulations to all staff who were involved in organising an
outstanding day of celebrations.
Due to the weather, the Stage 2 and 3 excursion to the Yindyamarra Sculpture Walk has been postponed to
Monday, 19 August.

Are you following Thurgoona Public School’s Facebook Page?
Our school Facebook page is a great way for families to stay in touch with what is happening at
our school. It is also a great opportunity to showcase some of the wonderful things our students
are involved in. We rely on photos from parents, carers and teachers to capture many of the
great things happening around the school and at extra-curricula or after school events. A
reminder that if you have any photos (or accompanying news/commentary), please email it to the
school so that we can post it on Facebook.
Playground Guidelines
With a growing student population and changes being made to some parts of our playground, staff have been
reviewing our playground guidelines including playground rules, staff supervision and safety procedures. The
Student Representative Council have also met with their peers and asked for feedback and ideas about ways to
ensure our playground is a fun, engaging and safe space to play. Once consultation is complete, we will have a
series of guidelines that will ensure safety and enjoyment continue to be at the core of play times.
Quote of the week: “It does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you don’t stop.”

Morning Arrival Time at School Please note that arrival time for school is from 8:30 am
onwards. Students should not be at school before this
time as there are no staff on duty to supervise them.
Early arrival of unsupervised students creates an unsafe
environment for those students.
Students are not to be at school before 8:30 am.
