ANNUAL SCHOOL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Day 2: TRACK EVENTS and LONG JUMP and DISCUS EVENTS – Barton Park
The track events carnival will be held at Barton Park for all students turning 8 years in year 2 wishing
to compete and all 3-6 students, commencing at 9.00am. Students will be travelling to and from the
venue by bus. The cost for the bus hire will be $5.00 per student. This cost has been subsidised by
the school due to the late notice of a new venue.
The carnival will commence with the 800m races. Students aged 8–12 years will then rotate through the 100m, 200m, long jump and discus events.

MATHS-A-THON
All students are encouraged to be involved in the maths-a-thon. The students will be
answering questions on a sheet (same as class mentals) on the day. The sheets sent
home are graded and questions asked of students will be at their ability level.
This fundraiser is to encourage all students to learn their numeracy facts which are
vital for their ongoing development and success in numeracy.
The sausage sizzle is being used as a celebration of our academic growth, resilience and love of learning
at the conclusion of the maths-a-thon.
BAND
Band lessons will NOT occur next week due to the Track Carnival. Make up lessons will occur on
Wednesday 14/8 during school time. Students will need to ensure they have their instruments for this day.
Band will be performing on Open Day. Please ensure your child has practised their pieces and brings their
instrument and music on the day.
OPEN DAY – Education Week
(Due to the postponing of the Athletics Carnival and availability of sporting venues we are having to have our Open Day event a
week later than most schools.)
The theme for 2019 Education Week is Every Student, Every Voice. It is a celebration of student
empowerment and how the NSW public education system gives students the skills they need in order to
have and express a voice during their own educational journey and as engaged global citizens.
OPEN DAY will be held on Tuesday, 13 August commencing at 9:30am – 11:15am.
All family members welcome.

completion of the maths-a-thon. All students have been sent home maths-a-thon cards with concepts that

UNIFORMS
Please clearly label all uniforms. It is difficult for students when they misplace their jumper and it can’t be located due to having no name or a name that has washed off. This appears to be a greater problem with our senior students who try to recognise their items by the faded or smudged letters. HISTORY DAY
This week our school leaders visited Parramatta Public School as part of a History Day event. Our students spoke about the history of Burnside and the development of the school over the years.
BOOK WEEK PARADE – Do you have a costume?
From 17-23 August 2019 we celebrate CBCA Book Week which falls in Week 5 of
Term 3. The theme for this year is Reading Is My Secret Power
On Wednesday, 21 August we will be holding a Book Character Parade and Book
Fair. Students from Kinder to Year 6 will have the opportunity to dress up as a book
character. It could be a character that suits the theme for this year or simply a favourite
book character.
The parade will begin at approximately 10.10am and finish at approximately 10.45am.
Prior to the book character parade our annual book fair will be held in the library from 9am. Students are
encouraged to come and visit with their parents. A wide selection of books will be available on the day
provided by the Children’s Bookshop at Beecroft. Students may also buy a book to be donated to our
library. We would be most grateful if you could consider supporting our school in this way.
