Principal’s Report Star Struck Superstars Last Friday night I had the pleasure of attending Star Struck. As is always the case, the students in our area showcased their exceptional talents, whether that be singing, dancing or drama. Hillsborough Public School was represented by 16 magnificent singers, who formed part of the choir. Thanks to my exceptional listening skills, I could tell that our students were the best singers in the whole group! Thank you to Mrs Dubojski and Mrs Mullan for giving up your personal time to take our students to these performances. Without the support of our teachers, our students would not get the opportunity to engage in these worthwhile activities. Athletics Carnival I know that you are all joining with me in keeping your fingers, toes, arms, legs and eyes all crossed in the hope that the weather stays kind for our Athletics Carnival tomorrow. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have had to move the carnival to Baxter Field at Marks Point. I know that the staff and students are very excited about the carnival. Yesterday, I was treated to some very spirited war cry rehearsals, so I just know we are in for a great day. Thank you to Mr Burke for all of his efforts in organising and reorganising this carnival. This year, we are very lucky to be supported by Sport in Schools Australia staff, who will assist us in running some of our events. Our New Bell You may have heard some new sounds as you have dropped your children off or picked them up from school lately. That is because we are trialling bell songs and sounds thanks to the installation of our new bell and PA system. The students (and staff) of Hillsborough Public School have been very forthcoming with their suggestions for our new morning bell song and end of play song as well as the tones and sounds for our other bells. I am a firm believer in student voice and will be seeking the input of our students when making the final decision for bell songs to commence next term. If you would like to hear a particular tune, now is the time to plant that seed with your children. School Reports On Monday night, at the P&C meeting, I was able to give all attendees a sneak peek into our new reports. As stated previously, this year, we are using new software, which will mean that the reports will look a little different to what you may be used to. Teachers will still be reporting on all key learning areas, however, instead of a checklist of indicators, teachers will write a comment for each subject. The comment will inform parents of the content that has been taught in class, it will identify how well the student performs in that subject area and it will provide a future direction for learning for each subject. Star Struck Superstars

the meeting, were very positive about the changes to the way the reports look and the depth of information that was available. After the reports go home, we will be seeking your input to help us make our reports even more ‘user friendly’ and ensure that they meet the needs of our community.

P&C Canteen Thank You

I would like to express my gratitude to the P&C for the great work they are doing with the canteen menu and special Tuesday meals. Tracey K explained a great deal about the challenges faced to ensure our canteen menu is in compliance with the Healthy School Canteen policy and I would like to thank all of the P&C members, who are working together to make sure that our menu is not only healthy, but also meets the needs of the taste buds of our 270 students. As always, the P&C is looking for volunteers to work in the canteen. If you can spare some time, please contact the team via the HPS P&C Events Facebook Page.

Have a great week!
