PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Dear Parents and Carers, As I write this week’s newsletter, the sun is streaming into my office and I can hear the excitement of Stage 2 as they are completing their science experiments. Their task was to design a vehicle that is meant to protect an egg as it is dropped from our library balcony. By the sounds of the squeals and the splats, i’m thinking there might be a bit of a mess to clean up. I look forward to hearing about whose designs were successful and how others might be improved. Thank you to our Stage 2 teachers and Mrs Miller for your creative science and technology lessons. I just love the way our teachers create interesting lessons that engage and excite our students. This is happening in all classes across our school and it is one of the reasons that Hillsborough Pubic School is such an amazing place to work and learn. Enrolling Now If your child is turning 5 on or before 31 July 2021 and you are interested in a possible Kindergarten enrolment, please contact our friendly office staff on 49435695 to discuss enrolment procedures. We are also currently accepting enrolments for all grades in 2020. If you know of any families seeking enrolment, please encourage them to contact the school so that we can provide them with all the information they need to begin the enrolment process. Students Return It has been wonderful to have all of our students return to school. I have been into all classrooms and I can see the joy in the faces of our students and teachers as they continue their learning together. We have had to remind our students that they are back at school now, which means that they all need to follow our school rules. By and large our students have been exemplary in their behaviour, however, there have been some classroom and playground behaviours that have been disappointing to see and we are working with our students to support them in developing their positive behaviours. I am looking forward to seeing all of our students displaying their best behaviour in all settings across the school. We have the most delightful students in all of NSW, so I know we will see this happen very soon. Term 2 Week 6 3 June 2020

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Dear Parents and Carers,

As I write this week’s newsletter, the sun is streaming into my office and I can hear the excitement of Stage 2 as they are completing their science experiments. Their task was to design a vehicle that is meant to protect an egg as it is dropped from our library balcony. By the sounds of the squeals and the splats, i’m thinking there might be a bit of a mess to clean up. I look forward to hearing about whose designs were successful and how others might be improved. This is happening in all classes across our school and it is one of the reasons that Hillsborough Pubic School is such an amazing place to work and learn.

Departure Procedures Thank you once again to all of our parents and carers for the outstanding way in which you have managed our departure procedures. Because of your cooperation and support, we have been able to streamline our processes resulting in more valuable time in the classroom. Our new procedures start today, Wednesday, 3 June 2020. They are as follows: 2:50pm - Fraser house and Jackson house leave the school 3:00pm - Bradman and Landy house leave the school OOSH students walk to the OOSH building as normal at 3pm. At this stage, all entry and exit is via the Waratah Avenue gates. Semester One Reports You played a vital role in the supervision of learning while our students were not at school due to COVID-19 and the subsequent Learning from Home procedures. We believe you have valuable information to share about your child's commitment to learning from home and we would like to recognise this by including your input on your child’s Semester One Academic Report. Today, your child will be bringing home a survey on yellow paper. We will be using your responses to include a section on the Academic Report where you report on your child’s Commitment to Learning from Home. We value your input and encourage you to answer the survey for each of your children. If you do not wish to complete this survey, this information will not appear on your child's report for Semester One. Please note, all surveys are due back to the school before Wednesday, 17 June 2020 so that we can upload the information onto our reports. This will allow us to have our modified reports out to families by the end of this term. At this point in time, we have not scheduled any parent teacher interviews due to the uncertainty around COVID-19 procedures. Please do know that these conferences are important to us and we will be working hard to ensure they can go ahead, however, we will have to follow Department of Education procedures in this space. Permission to Publish We have been taking some wonderful photos of students learning since they have returned to school and we would love to be able to share these photos with our community. To do this we require a new Permission to Publish form for each of our students. You can find these eForms on our Skoolbag App. We do know that Skoolbag has been a little difficult to access recently so we are accepting an email from families granting permission to publish via email. Our email address is: [email protected]. Thank you to all of the families who have already sent in their eForm or email. We really are excited about sharing the great things happening at our school. Have a wonderful week!
