Term 2 Week 3 Respect~Responsibilty~Safety~Be a Learner [email protected] Welcome to Week 3. What a wonderful past fortnight for students at our great lile school. Students and staff are working very hard in class. Qualifying students aended the Bombala District PSSA Field Events two weeks ago and all students headed off to Bombala Public School for the Track Events last Friday. To say these days were a success for Delegate Public School is a slight understatement. Students from K-6 once again showed that our small school punches well above its weight in terms of performance, pride in represenng our school and behaviour. 11 Students have qualified for the Snowy Mountains District PSSA Athlecs Carnival on Thursday 30 May 2019, and numerous others were awarded ribbons on the day. Delegate Public School was once again crowned and awarded the trophy Overall Handicap Champions on the day. This trophy is decided by taking House/School overall points divided by the total number of parcipants in the team. This is the second year running we have won this trophy and the students should be very proud of their efforts. I would like to pay special menon to Charlie M for breaking a twenty three year old record in the heats of the 8 Years 100m, and then breaking her own record in the final about an hour later, an outstanding achievement. To the Junior Girls 4x100m Relay Team of Charlie M, Isabella, Ella and Layla, congratulaons on your success as well. To win a 400m relay race by nearly 100m was an amazing achievement. I would like to send out a huge thank you to the large conngent of parents who not only came along to support the children on the day, but offered their help with ming, judging and marshalling. It once again shows the incredible support you offer the students and our school as a whole. Indigenous Excursion On Monday of last week our Indigenous students had the opportunity to join with students from Bombala Public and Bombala High Schools to aend an event organised by TRAKZ at Cooma. Students enjoyed a presentaon and mini concert from renowned Australian singer/ songwriter Chrisne Anu. Chrisne talked about her experience growing up in the Torres Strait and taught children about language, culture and belonging. Students were then treated to a wonderful concert from Ms Anu accompanied by some of our own students. Walk Safely to School Day This Friday 17 May 2019 is Naonal Walk Safely to School Day. We understand that in a school and community such as ours it is not always possible for students to walk to school. But this day also extends to students alighng from buses, walking from their car and riding their bikes. The safety of all our students is paramount. Students this week will be undertaking a range of acvies promong this iniave and on Friday morning, staff will be manning the school gates and recognising students behaving safely as they arrive at school. NAPLAN Year 3 and 5 students have started their NAPLAN Tests this week and thus far students have been enthusiasc about what has been presented to them. Welcome to Week 3.

What a wonderful past fortnight for students at our great little school. Students and staff are working very hard in class. Staff Professional Learning On Monday of this week K-2 teaching staff attended Bombala Public School to work collaboratively with their K-2 staff to reflect, plan and design teaching and learning programs. Feedback from the day has been extremely positive and I look for-ward to seeing the planning in action in the K12 Classroom. On Thursday last week I attended the Principal Education Forum in Queanbeyan. This forum afforded principals from across the region to share challenges, successes and ideas with the Secretary and two Deputy Secretaries of the Department of Education. This was an extremely valuable day as collegially we were able to push for transformational change in our sys-tems that will allow the systems to work more efficiently and smoothly for us all. School Times Please be aware that students who arrive at school prior to 8:45am are not supervised by staff. Buses arrive at this time and if the buses arrive a few minutes prior, this can be accommodated to allow the bus to continue its journey. Staff arriving at school prior to this time, use the time to effectively plan the day’s learning activities and for conducting professional conver-sations with colleagues. The safety of our students is paramount; however families need to be aware of school starting and finishing times. We understand that from time to time there may be extenuating circumstances and in these instances please converse with your child’s teacher to ensure adequate supervision is arranged.

Federal Election

Once again, Delegate Public School will be a polling booth for this Saturday’s Federal Election. Our P&C will be running a BBQ (separate note attached) to raise funds to support our school. Year 6 parents will be operating a Cake Stall to support the Year 6 Excursion to Melbourne. Please support these stalls to further support your school.

P&C

Our next P&C Meeting takes place tonight in the 3456 Classroom from 6:30pm. All are welcome and it would be great to see some new faces along to support this extremely hard working band of people.

School Attendance

Students at Delegate Public have an outstanding attendance rate and I would like to congratulate all on ensuring students attend school each and every day. It is important to remind parents that it is their responsibility to provide a verbal or written notification to school within seven days of the absence, informing us of the reason for the absence of their child. If a student is away for two consecutive days, teaching staff will make contact to ensure absent students are well and if the school can provide any support needed. An interesting fact is, if a child misses as little as 8 Days in a school term, by the end of primary school they’ll have missed over a year of school.

Community Use of School Grounds

It has been wonderful to see children and community using our wonderful sporting facilities here at school after school and on the weekends. Can I please ask that when using the facilities, can community members and children please leave them in the same state as they found, this includes taking any rubbish with you after finished and shutting the gate when leaving.

Opportunity Class (OC) Applications

Opportunity classes cater for academically gifted and talented students who may otherwise be without sufficient class-mates at their own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the ap-propriate level.

Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from Tuesday 30 April 2019 at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5 The application website opens on Tuesday 30 April 2019 and closes on Friday 17 May 2019. You must apply by the due date. If you have any questions about Opportunity Classes or the application process, please contact Mr Bannister at school.

Visiting the School

We welcome visitors to our school especially when parents, carers, grandparents etc. visit. However it is vital that all visitors report to the office to sign in first prior to entering classrooms or engaging with students in the playground. Once again it is a safety measure for not only our students but also for the visitors as well.

Have a great week, Brad and Staff
