Tenure track system in the UMCG
Main target group: starting, talented young scientists that have the potential to become full professor in a given period of time, i.e., within a maximum of 12 years. Starting at the level of (experienced) post-doc (qualification for entrance in phase A is
at the level of a veni laureate). Both clinical and science tracks. For both clinical and preclinical scientists, pre-tenure tracks are available to bridge the
gap between PhD and tenure track.

Scientific topic of candidate has to fit into the research focus of the UMCG, i.e., healthy ageing (5 thematic institutes in Graduate School of Medical Sciences, 32 programmes).
UMCG has PI system: TT that do not yet qualify according to criteria obtain temporary status of ‘young PI’ to allow access to MD/PhD students, Topmaster students, equipment etc.
Talents can be recruited (preferably from outside the UMCG) and employed additionally to the available staff positions in a department. After three years they should become part of the tenured staff of a department.
