Brighton Area Schools Board of Education:

I am a third grade teacher at Hornung Elementary and w i l l be entering my eighth year as a teacher with Brighton Area Schools. 1 am requesting a 6 week child care leave for the 2012-2013 school year under the Family Medical Leave Act beginning at the arrival of the healthy birth of my baby gir l , concluding in October 2012. 1 have approximately 24 sick days to use during this time period accumulated over my seven years with Brighton Area Schools.

Upon the conclusion of my F M L A time, 1 am requesting the remainder of the 2012-2013 year as an unpaid leave of absence.

I am aware of my obligation to contact the district by March 1, 2013 concerning my return to BAS for the 2013-2014 school year.

Dear Members of the Board: 

I am writing to request a full year leave of absence for the upcoming school year. I have a baby due in November and had been planning to work until her birth and then return to work in the spring. However, over the past month I have developed sciatic nerve pain which does not seem to be getting better. In fact, trying to set up my classroom, even with the help of my husband, has been painful, and I find that my sciatica is getting worse from the strain. I do not feel it would be in the best interest of my third graders to have a teacher struggling with pain on a daily basis, especially when I plan to take a maternity leave for the middle two quarters of the year! So for the sake of my back and the sake of my students, I have decided to request this leave. I apologize for the late notice. Until I began setting up my classroom, I still hoped that the pain would get better and I would be able to start the school year successfully!  

I appreciate your consideration and I look forward to continuing my career with Brighton Area Schools next year!

For Action Subject: Signature Resolution Recommendation: To approve both Maria Gistinger and Anne Rennie as authorized signers for contract agreements with the Michigan Department of Transportation. Rationale: The Michigan Department of Transportation requires authorized signatures in order to provide project funds using either state or federal funds for transportation related services. As there will be contract expectations at both the financial level and programmatic level, two authorizes signers is needed. Facts/Statistics: The Brighton senior Center van has been on it’s last legs for the last couple of years. There continues to be problems with the handicap lift and the air conditioning, which has impacted the use of the vehicle. Despite numerous repairs, it was determined that the department should request a new one. The grant was submitted and has been accepted to replace the Senior Center van. This signature resolution would allow us to receive those funds and replace our van.
