Page 1 of 7 Telene ® (1620 , 1650 and 1651 grades) Fire behavior Ref : VA – WM – 2015/02 Fire tests general conditions The fire resistance behaviour can be classified into two types: 1. Flame tests The flame is applied directly on a vertical or horizontal sample, on one of its edges or on a surface. Then, the flame propagation speed or the persistence time after the flame removal is measured as well as a post-combustion time (sample still lurid) or a sample ignition facility. Then, the materials are classified as non-flammable, self-extinguishing or burning. 2. Tests with a radiant source or an incandescent wire In the first case, a radiant source is applied at a certain distance of the sample surface; an incandescent wire can also be applied directly on the sample. The temperatures reach 600 to 700°C for the radiant sources and 960°C for the incandescent wires. In the radiant source test, the inflammation is driven through a pilot flame which inflames the pyrolysis gases and propagates the flame to the sample. Although there is no direct contact with the flame, these tests are always very difficult. Remarks - The fumes emission quantity and their nature are not considered in those two tests. - Generally, the tests are more severe as the thickness decreases. - Some other tests combine the fire and fumes reactions of the materials. These tests are not suggested to be done on Telene ® while the fumes emission quantities are very important. Telene classifications 1. ISO 3795 Road transportation, tractors and agricultural and forestry equipment. British Leyland internal norm corresponding but non equivalent norm: BLS 30 MS 302. The test consists in the measurement of the material combustion speed. The inflammation starts on one edge of a horizontal sample in a small cabin submitted to a controlled air flow.

Fire tests general conditions The fire resistance behaviour can be classified into two types:

2. Tests with a radiant source or an incandescent w ire In the first case, a radiant source is applied at a certain distance of the sample surface; an incandescent wire can also be applied directly on the sample. These tests are not suggested to be done on Telene® while the fumes emission quantities are very important.

Telene classifications

Results Sample’s thickness: 5mm - Extinguishing since the flame removal - Combustion speed = 0 mm/min Sample’s thickness: 4mm - The flame remains but goes out before getting to the mark (reference mark from which the propagation speed is

measured) Burning rate of the samples 0 mm/min (self-extinguishable). Telene® passed this standard and is rated not combustible. Tests reports are available.

2. EN 95/28 Burning behaviour of materials used in interior constructions of certain categories of motor vehicle. Annex 4: to determine the horizontal burning rate of materials. The burning rate was tested for 4 samples according to Directive 95/28 WE Annex 4.

Results The flame died out after cutting off the gas. The flame did not reach the first measuring point or the end of the sample. Burning rate of the samples 0 mm/min (self-extinguishable). Telene® passed this standard and is rated not combustible. Test reports are available.

3. ECE-R 118: UNIFORM TECHNICAL PRESCRIPTIONS CONCERNING THE BURN ING BEHAVIOUR OF MATERIALS USED IN THE INTERIOR CONSTRU CTION OF CERTAIN CATEGORIES OF MOTOR VEHICLES Telene® passed the requirement of Annex 6 -Test to determine the horizontal burning rate of materials - by equivalence to ISO 3795.

4. Other burning rate standards Horizontal samples: FMVSS 302 - (USA) D45 1333 - Peugeot Method 1333 - Renault BL 30 MS 302 - British Leyland CMVSS 302 - (Canada) 832GS302 - Mack Trucks Telene® passed these standards and is rated not combustible.

HB Classification - Sample bar in a horizontal position - Application of an 18 mm flame on the bar end - The material is classified if the combustion speed is lower than: - 40 mm/mn if 3mm < thickness < 13 mm - 75 mm/mn if thickness < 3 mm The propagation speed is 25mm/mn on a 5mm thick Telene® sample HB classified

V0-V1-V2 classification - Sample bar in a vertical position - Application of an 18 mm flame; 2 successive inflammations during 10s.

Results Since the first application of the flame: - Sample inflammation after 2 to 3s - Then total sample combustion with a very large fumes emission. Telene® is not classified

Painted Telene: V0-V1-V2 classification Fireproofed paints improve perceptibly the fire behaviour of Telene. The V0 classification is hard to reach while it is difficult to correctly paint the edges of the sample. - No inflammation after the first ignition - After the second ignition, the inflammation times go from 0s to over 1mn. Telene® is classified V1

94-5VA Classification - Vertical bar - Flame height: 125 mm.

This test is more severe than the test UL 94 V0-V1-V2. Telene® is not classified

94-5VB Classification The test is carried out on one of the sample’s surfaces. Telene® is classified 94-5VB

6. FIAT 50433 classification

Principle - Sample 200mm x 50mm x 5mm tilted to 45°C. - Inflammation duration: 30s. - Flame height: 20 mm. - Bunsen burner: 9.5 localised at 10 mm from the lower edge of the sample. - Measurement of the flame propagation speed for 1mn. - Test carried out on 3 samples.

Results Samples’ length burnt after 1 mn. - Sample n° 1: 40 mm - Sample n° 2: 30 mm - Sample n° 3: 30 mm Combustion speed: 35 mm/mn

Remarks - Sample inflammation since the first seconds of the flame application. - Maximum flame height reached during the test: 200 mm. - The propagation rate is measured according to the damaged part of the sample after the test. - Fall of inflamed drops during the test.

7. NFT 51074 - Incandescent wire test This test consists in determining the inflammation temperature of samples as well as their capacity to go out when the ignition source is over.

Principle A heated wire (550°C - 650°C - 750°C - 850°C - 960°C) is applied onto the surface of the sample for 30s.

Measurement: - Ta: Application time - T1: First inflammation time - T2: Flame extinguishing time

Tests results at 960°C - Non painted samples: - Ta = 30 s - T1 = 0 s

- T2 = > 90 s Flame extinguishing 1mn after the incandescent wire removal. Telene® doesn’t pass the test at 960°C

- Painted samples (Flame retardant paint): - Ta = 30 s - T1 = 0 s - T2 = 30 s

Extinguishing since the incandescent wire removal. Telene® passes the test

8. LOI classification - Vertical sample localised in an enclosure with a controlled oxygen ratio - Inflammation of the top of the sample with a flame propagation to the bottom. - Measurement of the minimum oxygen ratio necessary to maintain the total combustion of the sample

Results LOI: 19% (LOI: Limit Oxygen Indication)
