description

Caching is back in fashion as half of internet traffic is now video and p2p traffic. ISPs, mobile operators and broadband providers need to look at how to improve QOE of video without having to go through more costly infrastructure upgrades. The way forward is a next generation video (NGV) system

Telco : Trends to catch• Today we have an explosion of

video devices and services, from YouTube, through mobile video telephony to HD video-on-demand. YouTube is now approximately 10% of global Internet traffic, and in the UK the BBC's iPlayer service is now approximately 15% of all UK Internet traffic. Add in video related traffic from other P2P (peer to peer) services, and well over half the internet traffic today is video related.

Overview, Videos in telco operators environment

CDN players nominate this area.

Problem is that mobile operator or broadband operator cannot monetize or control the videos demand

Increasing traffic due to video but all it does is add on cost of infrastructure

Old generation web caches ..

Old web caches solutions not scaling well due to in-line design of web caching.

Efficiency of cache is anything between 30% to max 50%

Lots of $$$ has been sunk into such designs yet not getting the desired performance

Alternative solution needed, a NG video solution

A next generation video solution is needed that fulfil the following

a. Higher efficiency of caching eg 90% of cache rate

b. Reduce latency to improve quality of viewingc. Out of band to improve efficiency of cache and

faster implementation timed. Save precious international bandwidth
