Students participated in activities such as Aboriginal dance, clapstick making, traditional Aboriginal games, storytelling, etc. Naidoc week is held every year as a way of promoting a greater understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples culture and celebrating the survival of Indigenous culture and the Indigenous contribution to Modern Australia. The theme for Naidoc Week 2009 is “Honouring Our Elders, Nurturing Our Youth” which aims to encourage communities to acknowledge the status of Elders as leaders and role models for our youth. Today a framed copy of the Sorry Day manuscript was presented to the school. This will be proudly displayed in the school foyer. SCHOOL HOLIDAYS We break up for school holidays this Friday 10 July. We resume school on Tuesday 28 July. Monday 27 July is a school development day (pupil free). On this day teachers will be developed in Literacy and Technology Strategies to assist with the Teaching and Learning process. Thank you for your support this term and enjoy the school holidays with your children. SCHOOL REPORTS Semester One student reports were distributed today. If parents did not receive a report please contact the school. Please contact the school if you would like to organise a meeting with your child’s teacher. END OF TERM ACTIVITIES I have been privileged in recent weeks to observe a variety of high quality activities that Telarah Public School have been involved in. Many students at the school enjoyed participating in a Financial Literacy day. Students attended a Footloose performance at the Civic Theatre and students in K-6 participated in a most successful Big Blokes Little Blokes Science Night and Science Challenge. This was an outstanding success with a large number of parents in attendance. Telarah Public School students have also enjoyed success in Chess Tournaments and Debating competitions. Last Friday it was a pleasure to attend a special assembly where our K- 2 singers, Year 3-6 choir and Starstruck groups all performed in an outstanding manner. A number of parents and grandparents also enjoyed morning tea and a concert in the Early Intervention Unit. I am sure the Naidoc Week activities, Stage 1 Transport Excursion and Year 5 Camp will all be highly successful in this last week of Term 2. STUDENT ATTENDANCE Could all parents please ensure that a note is sent to the class teacher when your child is absent from school. This is a legal requirement from the Department of Education. Parents are also given the option of phoning the school and leaving a verbal absent notice. This then saves having to send a note when your child returns to school. KINDER 2010 We are now taking enrolments for Kindergarten 2010. Could all parents please contact the office to leave your child’s details as soon as possible. NIT NIGHT Please remember that Monday is nit night where we ask all parents to check their child’s hair for head lice and treat if necessary.
