Starts with the Standards
Defines the specifics of the standards
Groups standards in meaningful ways to
establish overarching understandings that
shape the unit layout of the course.
Groups standards within the unit in meaningful ways to establish unit
understandings that build toward the overarching
understandings
Designs tools that measure the depth of understanding that a
student should have as the unit progresses
Design instruction to build students’
knowledge & skill toward the unit learning
outcomes and assessments
Use data from assessment to inform and
plan additional instruction

What has been worked on?• Released NEW STAAR Stem resources for grades 3-English II
• Completed 2015 STAAR Analysis- grade-level and vertical analysis (currently being published)
• Revised TEKS specificity based on STAAR Analysis (document with changes located in the “News” section of the homepage
English Language Arts & Reading Stem Resources
• Helps us understand our state standards (TEKS)
• Provides information on how the state standards
(TEKS) are being assessed
• Knowing this information can assist in curriculum,
instruction, and assessment decision-making

Mathematics Concept Tree
The Universal K-12 Concept Tree enhances a macro view of the Mathematics content
The purpose of the Concept Tree is to serve as a tool that Allows for vertical alignment of content at a macro
level Provides a set of universal ideas which serve as
lenses to study content in any mathematics field Connects the Unit Understandings to the
Overarching Understandings
Mathematics Concept Tree
Enhanced TEKS Clarification Document
In general, reviewed/revised1. Assessment items for alignment to curriculum and alignment to STAAR’s®
application of process standards
2. Vocabulary, if necessary, to align to TEA’s vocabulary
3. Models to reflect use and appropriateness, clarity of steps, and association to algebraic process, where appropriate
4. Specificity, including examples, for clarity
8.3A Added example of similarity using proportion vs generalization; removed reference to preservation from transformation definitions
8.8D Added same side interior and same side exterior angles in parallel lines
8.10A Added orientation of figure; clarified distinction between orientation of figure and orientation of vertices
8.12G Focused on contributions to a savings plan that can be planned in advance; removed scholarships, grants, etc.

Analysis Review
Science Updates
Biology – New course version• New Conceptual Biology YAG and units
• Streamlining opportunity to do real shake up of Conceptual Biology
• May consider removing Overarching Understandings and Questions from the IFD as only a separate document like the Concept tree.
• May be adding Sample Guiding Questions (not just the links) to the IFD behind the paid wall like Performance Assessments
New HS courses• Add Anatomy and Physiology for 17-18 (possible)
• Forensics may be the next course to be added.
• Possibly Earth and Space

STAAR Analysis Tool-upcoming
Item by item analysis of STAAR release tests
To include:• STAAR item in its entirety• State data on each item• Plausible rationale for student error• Stimulus type• Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy & Depth of Knowledge level• Content/Process TEKS including a breakout of what is
actually being assessed• TEKS Resource System notes such as vocabulary,
misconceptions, and other pertinent information about the item.
Social Studies Updates
Curriculum
• All courses have been in enhanced revision since early 2015 featuring:• Streamlining the content
• Enhancing the backward design elements
• Unifying curriculum elements to improve teacher planning
• 6th-11th grade enhancements posted this year
• K-5th, Government, Economics, Regional World Geography posted in draft form (February)
• Course versioning coming to the system in the summer (World Geography)
Assessment
• All performance assessments have been rewritten plus rubrics
• STAAR Analysis is forthcoming
• Gap analysis of the assessment bank is forthcoming
Resources
• Performance assessment catalog
• Backward Design Documents
• Concept Tree
• Universal Rubrics
Performance Assessment Catalog

Content Spotlight
• World Geography• World Geography has currently two organizations in the
system: Regional and Conceptual
• The conceptual is more streamlined
• Course Versioning in the System• 3rd learning will create a solution in order to have
multiple course organizations hosted at the same time
• New REGIONAL World Geography course with backward design elements will be available
• Majority of teachers are used to regional approach
• Will not be as streamlined as the conceptual approach
