installation.Woodnaturallyshrinksasitdriesand
swellswhenitisexposedtomoisture.Thisswelling
andshrinkingcancausesplitting,checking,buckling
andnailpoppingthatwillaffectperformancebefore
andafterinstallation.Mostperformanceproblems
relatedtomoisturecanbeavoidedbyproper
storage,handlingandinstallation.
Warehouse Storage
ItisimportantforTruChoiceTreatedsidings,edge-
gluedboards,andmouldingstobestoredoffthe
ground,wellsupportedandsecurelycovered,in
acoveredbuildingandoutoftheweather.While
storedinacoveredbuilding,thepackaginginwhich
TruChoiceTreatedisshippedwillactasaproper
cover.Intheeventthattheoriginalpackagingis
openedordamaged,itisimportanttore-cover
theopenedordamagedunitwithabreathable,
weatherresistantmaterialthatissecurebutloose
enoughtopermitaircirculationinordertoavoid
condensation

Job-Site Storage
ItisimportantforTruChoiceTreatedsidings,edge-
gluedboards,andmouldingstobestoredoffthe
ground,wellsupportedandsecurelycoveredwitha
breathable,weatherresistantmaterialthatissecure
butlooseenoughtopermitaircirculationinorder
toavoidcondensationinthestack.Besurethatno
watercanbecomeentrappedontoporunderneath
thecoveredproduct.Whenavailableonthejob-
site,itisbesttostoreTruChoiceTreatedproducts
inawell-ventilatedshelter.Forbestresults,let
TruChoiceTreatedproductsreachequilibriumwith
thelocalclimatebystoringthematleast15daysin
awell–ventilatedshelterpriortoinstallation.Do
notallowTruChoiceTreatedboardstobecome
directlyexposedtorain,water,ice,snoworthesun
forprolongedperiodsoftimepriortoinstallation
andfinishing.
Additional Handling Information
DonotuseTruChoiceTreatedinanyareawhere
itmaycomeincontactwithhumanoranimal
food.Examplesofsuchstructuresincludebutare

Before Starting
BeforestartingtoworkwithTruChoiceTreated
sidings,edge-gluedboardsandmouldings,be
preparedtoadheretothefollowingguidelines:

•DonotinstallTruchoiceTreatedproductsthat
havemoisturecontentover14%.
•Followthehighestqualitybuildingpracticeswhen
installing.
•Followallapplicablefederal,state,andlocal
buildingcodes.
•TruChoiceTreatedproductsarenottobeused
inload-carryingapplications.
Cutting
TruChoiceTreatedsidings,edgegluedboardsand
mouldingsmaybecuttolengthand/ornotched
asrequiredforfittingandjoining.Itisimportant
thatTruChoiceTreatedproductsarenotre-sawn
orre-sizedinanyotherway.Failuretofollowthis
guidelinecouldvoidthewarranty.Besuretowear
safetyglassesandadustmaskwhilemakingallcuts.
Brushallsawdustoffskinandclothesaftermaking
cuts.Keeptheworkareacleananddonotallow
wooddusttoaccumulate.
End-Sealing
Allsubsequentcuts,notchesorboreholesmust
becoatedwithahigh-qualitybrush-onorspray-on
woodpreservativecontainingzincnaphthenate.
Followalloftherecommendedapplication
instructionsprintedonthewoodpreservativecan.
Failuretouseawoodpreservativeoncuts,notches,
andboreholeswillvoidthewarranty.Inaddition,
allsealedendcutsshouldbecoatedwithahigh-
qualityoilbasedoracrylicexteriorwoodprimer
priortoinstallation.
Nailing and Fastening
ProlongingthelifeandbeautyofTruChoiceTreated
reliesonadheringtothehighestbuildingstandards.
Thesestandardsincludebutarenotlimitedto:
•Properroofoverhangs
•Flashingatroofedges
•Flashingaroundopeningssuchaswindows,doors,
andgarages
•Propervaporbarriers
•Properinstallationofguttersanddownspouts
•Properatticinsulation,ventilation,andexhaust
fans

WhenchoosingnailstofastenTruChoiceTreated,
selectring-shankedwoodsidingnailsthatare
non-corrosive.Thiswillhelptoavoidnailstains.
Stainlesssteelorhigh-quality,hot-dippedgalvanized
nailscanalsobeusedforinstallation.Thenails
shouldbeproperlysizedsothattheshank
penetrates1-1/2”intotheframingmembersora
combinationofframingmembersandsolidwood
sheathing.Ifthesheathingisnotsolidwood,longer
nailsareneeded.
Donotusecommoniron,copper,cement-coated,
electroplatedorpoorqualitygalvanizednails.These
typesofnailswillcausestains.Donotusecasing,
finishingorothersmall-headnails,exceptforblind
nailingTongue&Groove.Staplesshouldnotbe
usedasafastener,astheydonothaveenough
holdingstrength.
TruChoiceTreatedshouldbeinstalledovera
wood-basedsheathingthatiscoveredwitha
water-resistantbuildingpaperthathasaratingof
atleast5perms.DonotnailTruChoiceTreated
tothesheathingonly.Thiswillnothold.Donot
installTruchoiceTreateddirectlyontopoffoam
sheathing.Thiscouldcausemoisturetobecome
entrapped.ItisrecommendedthatTruChoice
Treatedbeinstalledusingamiterorbevelcutat
thehalfjoints.Thiscanminimizegapsrelatedto
shrinkage.IfTruChoiceTreatedisinstalledusing
buttjoints,itisrecommendedthatthejointsbe
flashed.Allendcutsshouldbeend-sealedprior
toinstallationasrecommendedinthismanual.In
addition,itisrecommendedthatallsealedends
becoatedwithahigh-qualityoil-basedoracrylic
exteriorwoodprimerpriortoinstallation.
Handnailingisthepreferredmethodforinstalling
TruChoiceTreated.Thiswillallowforminimum
disturbanceoftheoriginalprimecoat.Anail
guncanbeused,butitisimportantthattheair
pressurebeadjustedtoallowthenailstosit
flushwheninstalled.Nailscanbecountersunkby
1/16”,buttheymustbecoveredwithanend-
sealer.Tocreateaflushfinish,exteriorgradeputty
thatiscompatiblewithalkyd/oilbasedpaints
shouldbeusedtofilltheholes.Additionally,itis
recommendedtopre-drillbeforenailingmitered
cornersornearends.Thiswillpreventsplitting
neartheends.Besuretoapplyanend-sealertothe
pre-drilledholesafternailingasrecommendedin
thismanual.
NotethatTruChoiceTreatedmustbenailedto
allowforthenaturalwoodmovementduring
temperaturechanges.Donotnailthrough
overlappingpiecesasthiswillrestrictthenatural
movement.

besuretosealtheholewiththeproperwood
preservativeasrecommendedinthismanual.Ifan
areaofthewoodwasdamagedbeyondascuff,it
isimportanttousetheproperwoodpreservative
andputtyforrepairasrecommendedinthis
manualpriortospotpriming.
Glue, Putty, and Sealant
Whilenotcommon,ifgluingTruChoiceTreated
sidings,edgegludedboards,andmouldingsis
necessarytocompletetheinstallation,usenon-
caseincontainingwoodglue.TruChoiceTreated
productsmaynotbeusedinload-bearingor
structuralapplications.
Puttiesmaybeusedtofillholesmadeduring
installation(e.g.countersunknails).Makesurethat
theputtyiscompatiblewithalkyd/oilbasedpaints.
Sealantsusedaroundjointsmustbecompatible
withalkyd/oilbasedpaints.Incolderclimates
(below40ºF),useacoldweathercaulksealant.
Sealantsalonearenottobeusedforweather
protection.
Painting
TruChoiceTreatedsidings,edge-gluedboards,
andmouldingsmustbepaintedwithin30daysof
installation.TruChoiceTreatedproductsrequire
atleasttwocoatsofhigh-qualityalkyd/oilbased
exteriorenamel,or100%acrylicexteriorstainor
glossasatopcoat.Donotuselowqualityflatoil
oralkydpaints,vinylactetate(PVA),vinylacrylicor
vinylacrylicco-polymerpaints.
Forbestresults,followthesestepswhenapplyinga
topcoattoTruChoiceTreatedproducts:
•Duringtheperiodbetweeninstallationand
painting,theproductmustbekeptdryandoutof
contactwithrain,dew,iceorsnow.
•TruChoiceTreatedproductsmustbedrybefore
painting,withamoisturecontentatorbelow
14%.
•Priortopainting,clearallloosematerial,dust,
grease,etc.offthesurface.Sandlightlytoobtaina
smooth,levelsurface.
•Applyalltopcoatsinconditionsthataredryand
above50ºF.
•Allowfor24hoursofdryingtimebetweenfinish
coats.

Resin Bleed
TruChoiceTreatedsidings,edge-gluedboards,and
mouldingsareproducedfrom100%realRadiata
Pinewood.Whileitisnottypical,therecouldbe
someresinbleed.Whenthishappens,itusually
duetohotconditionsduringstorageorbecause
ofpaintcolorsthathavealowLRV.Resinbleed
canbeminimizedifthepaintingstepswithin
thismanualarefollowedclosely.Ifresinbleedis
experienced,contactyourdistributoror
TruChoiceTreateddirectly
forsolutions.
Maintainence
Itisimportanttofollowallofthepaint
manufacturer’sinstructionsonhowandwhento
re-applythetopcoat.Ifatanytime,TruChoice
Treatedsidings,edge-gluedboards,ormouldings
arescuffedorlightlydamagedduetocausesother
thandecayortermites,followtheinstructions
inthismanualforapplyingwoodpreservative,
puttying,spotpriming,andapplyingthetopcoat.

TruChoice Treated 30-Year Limited WarrantyAs the manufacturer of TruChoice Treated sidings, edge-
glued boards and mouldings, ARAUCO offers a 30-year
limited warranty against termites and fungal decay. This
limited warranty guarantees the replacement of any
TruChoice Treated product, which conforms to the stated
conditions within this document and the full warranty
document, which becomes unserviceable due to fungal
decay or termite attack within the warranty period.
Replacement product will be supplied at the original
point of purchase or the closest alternative point, if the
original supply point is not available.
Inordertobenefitfromthislimitedwarranty,
completethewarrantyform*andretainitinthe
unlikelyeventofafutureclaim.Retaincopiesof
theproofofpurchasesuchasinvoicesorreceipts
andend-tagsfromtheinstalledTruChoiceTreated
productforconfirmationagainstthiswarranty.

Primer 2-Year Limited WarrantyArauco offers a 2-year limited warranty on the primer
for TruChoice Treated sidings, edge-glued boards and
mouldings. This limited warranty guarantees the cost
of paint to repair installed TruChoice Treated product,
which conforms to the stated conditions within this
document and the primer supplier’s user manual, which
experiences cracking, flaking, and/or chipping due to
primer failure.
Inordertobenefitfromthislimitedwarranty,
completethewarrantyform*andretainitinthe
unlikelyeventofafutureclaim.Retaincopiesof
theproofofpurchasesuchasinvoicesorreceipts
andend-tagsfromtheinstalledTruChoiceTreated
productforconfirmationagainstthiswarranty.
Itisrecommendedtoretaintheinformationforthe
paintusedtocoverTruChoiceTreatedproducts.
