SUBJECT: ADDITIONAL ADU SHIPPING MATERIAL

Increase Stability of ADU During Shipping

To further stabil ize the ADU unit during shipping, a bracket and foam padding have been addedto prevent vertical movement of the unit while being transported. Originally, only two platessecured the ADU primarily along its horizontal plane.

Modif ied Machines The additional ADU shipping material has been factory installed in machines starting with s erialnumbers 55VE02558 (7075) and 55ZE00193 (FORCE 75) . These units can be ident i f ied bydesignator "A" on the shipping carton label . Existing inventory has also been reinforced with theadditional shipping material . These units can be identif ied by a "green sticker" applied to thelabel of the shipping carton.

Removing the ADU Shipping Materia l

Note: Save the ADU shipping material (1 bracket, 2 plates, and foam pad) for future use (theseitems are not available in the parts system). To prevent damage, it is highly recom -mended that these items be installed prior to each machine transport.

It is important to remove the ADU shipping material in the fol lowing order:

1 . Withdraw tray 1 while pressing the lock lever mounted on theleft side of the tray (see arrow 1).

2 . Remove the screw (see arrow 2) of the f irst bracket (red) to beremoved.

3 . Remove the bracket by first sliding it to the right (see arrow 3),then rotating it to the rear (see arrow 4).

SUBJECT: FUSING DRIVE MECHANISM IMPROVEMENT

Design Change to PreventBreakage -- FOC Program

While subjected to loads when driving the upper fusing roller, the tabbed portion of fusing drivinggear/2 may break, making it impossible to drive (rotate) the upper fusing roller. Under thiscondition, jam J31-01 (2nd paper feed and conveyance jam) may occur.

To reduce the load placed upon fusing driving gear/2 and the likelihood of breakage, the drivemechanism of the upper fusing roller has been modified. The fusing driving gear and fusingdriving gear/2 are now designed to interlock with each other, enabling both gears to share theload when driving the upper fusing roller. Refer to the illustrations below for clarification.

This modification has been factory installed beginning with serial numbers 55VE02558 (7075)and 55ZE00193 (FORCE 75) . For machines below these serial numbers, i t is recommended thatthe old style gears be replaced. This is not a mandatory modification.

PARTS

Through February 28, 2002 , these parts can be obtained 20% free of charge for units belowserial numbers 55VE02558 (7075) and 55ZE00193 (FORCE 75) from the Parts DistributionCenter using the special ordering procedure in this bulletin. The Parts Center will charge for allparts ordered using standard ordering procedures.

FOC programs are based on statistical percentages of machines that are likely to be affected bycertain modification programs. For percentage programs, the quantity of parts shipped usuallyis sufficient to modify all of the machines that need the change. However, if more than thestatistical percentage of machines serviced by any one branch or dealer require a modification, then a FTR (Field Technical Report, Form TP-2) has been established for that purpose. Use theFTR only i f additional parts are needed. (Purchase the necessary new parts and return the oldparts with the properly completed FTR form to receive credit.)

Note: The new redesigned gears are not interchangeable with the old style gears. The new gearsmust be replaced as a set.

SUBJECT: PAPER PATH MODIFICATION

Drum Cartridge Assembly

When the duplex mode is selected, the paperis cycled through the ADU to reverse the sheetfor copying on the 2nd side. During this proc-ess, the leading edge of the paper can curl. Innormal situations, the curled edge presents noproblem; however, when copying special sizedpaper (larger than 11 x 17), the curled edgemay catch on the support molding of the sepa-ration guide plate or the screw head of therocking gear assembly (see photo). This cancause the corners of the paper to become foldedor can lead to J31-2 paper jams (conveyance).

The drum cartridge assembly has been modi-fied to remove these obstructions from thepaper path. (The support molding of the sepa-ration guide plate has been removed and thescrew of the rocking gear assembly has beenrepositioned to the upper side of the assem -bly.)

PARTS

The drum cartridge assembly can be obtained from the Parts Distribution Center using standardordering procedures. The new and old assemblies are interchangeable.

SUBJECT: FIRST PAPER FEED JAMMING PREVENTIONMODIFICATION

Model 7075 Only

A m o d ification k it is available to correct first paper feed jam m ing in the 500- and 1000-sheetpaper trays. Paper detection failures can result in F18-10 (tray 1) , F18-20 (tray 2), and F18-30(tray 3) service codes. This is caused by the movement of the paper guide/ left in each tray fromits proper position w h ich leads to incorrect paper placement in the tray. The kit has guide stopperplates to better secure the paper guide and longer actuators to ensure proper upper l im itdetection. These parts have been installed in m a chines during production beginning with serialnumber 55VE02558 ; machines below this serial number may require the kit . This is not amandatory modif ication.

SUBJECT: FUSING DRIVE GEAR/C

Modified to Prevent Breakage

The slots of fusing drive gear/C, into which the drive pin (pin/A) is inserted, have been lengthenedto evenly distribute the driving loads over a larger area. With the older gear, a smaller area wassubjected to these same loads, increasing the stress to that area and increasing the likelihood ofgear breakage. Pin/A has also been lengthened ( 16 ⇒ 34mm) to accommodate this change. Referto the illustration.

This modification has been factory installed beginning with serial numbers 55VE01841 (7075)and 55ZE00073 (FORCE 75) . This is not a mandatory modification. For machines below theserial number, replace gear/C and pin/A if breakage occurs.

SUBJECT: FUSING CLEANING GEAR/3

Precaution/Improvement to Prevent Breakage

The c leaning web assem b ly drive mechanism impartsdrive to the web assem b ly via a coupling devise (pin) w h ichengages fusing cleaning gear/3. The pin’s position w ithrespect to gear/3 can make the gear either more or lessprone to breakage.

Re ferring to the illustration, V iew A , gear/3 has two setsof slots into w h ich the pin can be inserted; also note thew ide and narrow tabs. Now referring to View B, note thedirection of rotation of gear/3. If w h ile replacing the webassem b ly the pin is inserted into the slots show n , thenarrower support tabs of the gear are subjected to the forceof the pin, m a k ing gear breakage more likely. O n the otherhand , if the pin is inserted into the slots show n in View C,the wider, more durable tabs are now sub jected to the pin’sforce, significantly reducing the l ikelihood of breakage.

In conjunction with the correct pin positioning, fusingcleaning gear/3 has been improved to increase its durabil -ity. The im p roved gear, which is now greenish in color, isslightly thicker and made o f a polyam ide-im ide (P A I) m a-terial . This gear (and correct pin positioning) has beenfactory installed in machines beginning with serial num -ber 55VE01095. Al l FORCE 75 machines include thism o d ification .

This is not a mandatory modification. To m inim ize down-time and gear replacement, it is recom m ended that thepin position be checked, and corrected if necessaryin accordance w ith V iew C , during the next servicecall or PM .

Output produced in printer mode or internal test patterns on large paper (11x17) exhibits bla cklines in the direction of the drum shaft from the m iddle to the trail edge of the paper. These l inesare barely visible on copies w ith text only but are apparent on halftone or copies of photos. Usethe procedures in this bulletin to correct the problem .

PROCEDURE

140mm to 148mm From the Trail Edge of the Copy.

This occurs just after passing the registration roller. It is caused by a difference in speed betweenthe registration and pre-transfer rollers. If only the registration roller is replaced, the outerdiameter of the new roller is larger than that of a worn roller. As a result , the rotation speed ofthe registration and pre-transfer rollers may be d ifferent. Use the follow ing procedure to adjustthis.

Vertical Magnification Adjustment Procedure

1 . Use large-sized (11x17), thick paper (34lb.) for all adjustments.

2 . Load the paper into one of the copier trays. Do not use LT-411 or the bypass tray to load thepaper for adjustment. Depending on LT-411 installation conditions, there may be a d ifferencefrom the m a in body trays.

3 . Access 36 mode, 2. Image ad justment = 2. Magnification adjustment = 1. Printer drum c lockadjustment = copy screen. Then, select the tray where you loaded the large size paper andpress the copy key.

4 . Measure the distance between the distortion m a rk at the leading edge and the center of thecopy. For the exact position, please refer to the illustration below . The arrow in the illustrationshows the paper exit d irection.

5 . Ad just the paper vertical magnification until the distance becomes 102.8m m (+/- .2m m ). If thedistance is more than 102.8m m (+/- .2m m ), press the P and C keys together, return to thedrum ad justment screen, and input a sm a ller value for the vertical magnification. If thedistance is less than 102.8m m (+/- .2m m ), enter the printer drum c lock screen and input alarger value. Please note that the size of the paper im m ediately after exit is shorter due totherm a l shrinkage. Therefore, measure the distance after allow ing the paper to cool for 10seconds.

Printer Vertical Zoom Adjustment

6 . In order to check the result of the printer vertical zoom ad justment, perform steps 7 and 8.

7 . Access 36 mode. Enter 4. In test pattern output mode , input 9 and then press set. The copyscreen w ill appear. Select the tray containing the large paper. The image of 9 is sim ilar tohalftone.

8 . If the black band appears at 140m m to 150m m from the trail edge, jitter is occurring. Thisoccurs when the vertical magnification adjustment value is too large. Return to the printe rdrum clock adjustment screen (see step 3) and input a sm a ller value.

9 . Repeat steps 7 and 8 until the black bands at 140m m to 150m m disappear.

10 . Note that adjustment of the printer vertical magnification affects the printer leading edgetim ing and that tim ing should be checked/adjusted as required.

a. 110m m through 115m m from the trail edge of the copy. This is caused by the shock that occurs when the paper hits the fixing roller. Becausethick paper tends to curl heavily, the occurrence is higher w ith thick paper. When thickmode is selected, the sym p tom m ay be corrected. If the fixing exit plate is built up w ithpaper dust or toner, the paper may be caught for a brief time and cause jitter. C leanthe guide plate, check the surface and ensure that it is smooth.

b . 40m m through 50m m from the trail edge of the copy. This occurs after passing the pre-transfer roller. The speed of the pre-transfer rollerand the drum m ay be different. It may be improved by cleaning or replacing the roller.

c. 30m m through 0m m from the trail edge of the copy. This occurs after passing the pre-transfer roller guide plate. When the trail edge of thepaper passes through the transfer guide plate/upper, the trailing edge may be repelled ,causing uneven background to occur.

Other Factors

• If a spacer has been inserted for thick paper to increase fixing roller pressure, transfer jit termay result. If this occurs, remove the spacer.

• Even if thin paper is used, when the paper weave direction is vertical (long grain) the paper isstiffer and transfer jitter may occur frequently. Use paper with a different weave directio n (shortgrain).

• The thicker the paper, the more paper curl direction is a factor. Turning the paper over in thetray may be effective in reducing transfer jitter.

Summary

• Frequent transfer jitter in large paper is related to the entrance of the paper to the fixin g unitand hesitation during paper conveyance.

• It occurs because of the shock to the paper when it enters the fixing unit and the difference inspeed of paper entering and exiting the fixing rollers. Possible counter measures are to elim inateanything that m ight delay the paper and to adjust the roller speed after replacing any transferconveyance rollers.

• Thin paper is less stiff and has less friction. Using thin paper may correct transfer jitter.

• If black lines occur in the copy mode , the cause may be d ifferent than those listed above. Checkthe symptom carefully to specify the cause, i .e. : fixing drive gears, fixing unit bearings,exit/inversion unit rollers, one-way bearings, etc.

PRODUCT: 7075/FORCE 75/7085 NO: 17 DATE: 9/11/02

SUBJECT: WIRING CHECKVertical Conveyance Unit Wiring Harness

SymptomUpon machine power up, code J32-11 (fixing/exit jam) or F53-12 (power supply abnormality) will occur.

CauseWiring harnesses not positioned and secured properly can lead to wire damage, normally as a result of beingpinched between two surfaces while reassembling machine components, such as panels for example.

Such is the case with the wiring harness of the vertical conveyance unit. Several cases of codes J32-11 and F53-12 have occurred as a result of wire damage following LCT unit hookups. View A shows the wiring harnessimproperly positioned. In this case the wires are at great risk of being pinched between the machine frame andpanel when the side panel is reinstalled. If the 5V wire of the harness is damaged and shorted to ground, a J32-11 code will occur; with the 24V wire shorted to ground, an F53-12 code will occur.

Action and ResultIf code J32-11 occurs, the 5V wire has been damaged. Repair the damaged wire(s) by wrapping each wire withelectrical tape. If code F53-12 occurs, the 24V wire has been damaged and the ICP fuse on the printer controlboard is blown. Repair the damaged wire(s) with electrical tape and replace the printer control board.

Preventive MaintenancePreventive maintenance is the best approach to avoiding costly repairs. Prior to hooking up the LCT unit duringmachine setup, or during the next service call, inspect the vertical conveyance unit wiring harness to ensure that itis configured as shown in View B. If the harness appears as in View A, rotate the top clamp 90 degrees andrebind the wiring as necessary so that it looks like View B.

SUBJECT: FIRST PAPER FEED JAMMING PREVENTIONMODIFICATION

Model FORCE 75 Only

A modification kit is available to correct first paper feed jamming in the 500- and 1000-sheet paper trays. Paperdetection failures can result in F18-10 (tray 1), F18-20 (tray 2), and F18-30 (tray 3) service codes. This is causedby the movement of the paper guide/left in each tray from its proper position which allows incorrect paperplacement in the tray. The kit has guide stopper plates to better secure the paper guide and longer actuators toensure proper upper limit detection. These parts have been installed in machines during production beginningwith serial number 55ZE00193; machines below this serial number may require the kit. Please note that this isnot an FOC program or mandatory modification.

Subject: REQUIREMENTS WHEN USING TU-109 ON 7085

7085: 022 Di850: 054

NOTE:

This bulletin applies only to the model 7085 (including options FS-211 and TU-109). Refer to bulletins 3976C, 4498A, and 4673 for related information pertaining to models Di850, FN-7, and TMG-3.

TOPIC: Trimmer unit TU-109, originally an option for the Model 8050, is now available for use with Model 7085 machines fitted with finisher FS-211. This provides the 7085 with the capability of 20-sheet trimming, an increase over the 16-sheet capacity it has with the TU-108.

REQUIREMENTS: To enable 7085/TU-109 compatibility, the following list of recommendations and requirements are established: • It is recommended that FS-211 units beginning with serial number 13TR01016, that include a more durable

folding knife driving cam assembly, be utilized. Finishers below this serial number should be upgraded with the improved driving cam assembly (p/n: 129X–534_) if it is to be used in this capacity. The new style motor mounting plate/B (p/n: 129X4828) must also be installed in conjunction with the cam assembly. For information pertaining to the installation of the improved driving cam assembly and new style motor mounting plate/B, refer to solutions 103382, 119002, 119003, 119004, 148942, 148943, 148948, and 148949 located on Konica Minolta’s NSSG site at:

http://techweb.konicabt.com/scripts/web_access.cgi?FUNC=DISP_LOGIN

• Install the entrance guide sheet and entrance pressure plate assembly that is shipped with the TU-109. • Ensure that the following minimum firmware levels that support 20-sheet trimming are installed:

o 7085 Image Control program version 43 o FS-211 FNS program version 15

manuals4you.commanuals4you.com

Page 57: Technical Bulletin Konica 7075

Page 2 of 2 Bulletin Number 4905

• For 7085 machines fitted with an IP-602, the “TU-109” display is not available on the User Interface window

for IP-602/PS-362 drivers (PCL, Adobe-PS, Konica Minolta-PS drivers), and therefore “TU-108” will appear on the display instead. This may cause confusion with operators. In light of this, during your service call, provide them with the following information: o That although “TU-108” is displayed on the User Interface window, it will not affect the functionality

expected from the installed TU-109 unit. o That when they select the trimmer unit, they should first select the FS-211 unit, then select “TU-108”

during their selection of options on the driver. • The following 25 service mode DIP Switch has been established to enable trimming mode max-sheet

selection in support of the TU-109:

DIP Switch 26-0, when set to: “0” = 16-sheet capacity (for heavy stock paper, etc.) “1” = 20-sheet capacity (default setting)

Note that the max-sheet 25 service mode DIP Switch setting for the Stapling and Folding mode provided below should coincide with the trimming mode max-sheet selection provided above:

25-1 = “0”, 20-sheet capacity (default setting) 25-1 = “1”, 16-sheet capacity (for heavy stock paper, etc.)
