Award Winning Innovation Dealers selected the Pos-Align Ring System as their choice as the most innovative product in the optics category in 1995. The Product Award Of Merit from the National Association of Federally Licensed Firearms Dealers was presented to Burris Company March 27, 1996. This was the product's second award for innovation -- the first was the 1994-95 Accessory of the Year Award from the Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence in May of 1995. Starting in 1997, this product has been renamed and repackaged as "Signature Rings and Signature Pos-Align Offset Inserts," to make the system more consumer-understandable. Signature Rings are now available in Universal-type, Double Dovetail, Weaver-style, and .22 Tip-Off-style. General Description Signature Rings function like a pivoting, rotating, self-centering bearing, allowing the ring-to-scope grip to reach 100%. Signature Rings will not scratch or mar the scope, yet grip over 50% better than standard rings. Signature Rings also eliminate the bending and stressing of the scope that is associated with steel rings. The Pos-Align Offset Insert Kit allows the user to mount a scope in near-perfect alignment with the gun’s bore by using concentric and offset inserts. How Mounting Systems Effect Stress On The Scope And Ultimately Accuracy(Things You Need to Know That the Manufacturers Didn't Tell You)

The following points demonstrate the number of variables that contributeto misalignment of scope rings to the scope bore. A common machiningtolerance for many components is +/-.005". Whether it be .005" or.002", when added together, it is common that a good deal of stress isinflicted upon a scope even when mounted properly.• A rifle's receiver at the front mount can be higher than the rear mount

by .005".• The front base may be .005" taller (thicker) than the ideal specification,

and the rear base may be .005" lower (thinner) than the ideal specification.• The 1" hole that is bored in the front ring may by .005 higher than

ideal specification and the hole drilled in the rear ring may by .005lower than ideal specification.

• If you add up the tolerances (called stack-up), it is quite possible toencounter a mounting system that puts the front of the scope a totalof .025" higher than the rear of the scope. If the rings are on a longaction, they will be approximately 4" apart, this misalignment canresult in a bullet impact approximately 25" low at 100 yards.

• The results of this misalignment is that the rings usually inflict a lot ofstress on the scope tube because the rings are trying to force thescope tube into two different axis.

Even greater levels of misalignment can occur on the vertical axis. • The holes in the receiver could be drilled slightly off of top-center. • The holes in the bases may be located off of center.• The dovetail may be located slightly off of center. • The dovetail on the ring may be slightly off of center.• The bore in the ring may be drilled slightly off of vertical center.

Scope Ring Alignment Is Critical To The Reliability ofMounting SystemsThe gripping area of any ring is determined by how parallel the innerring surfaces are to the scope tube. If the receiver, or bases, or ringsare on different planes, only the leading or trailing edges of each ringwill grip (and possibly dent) the scope tube. With Signature Rings, theentire surface area of each ring grips the scope tube providing as muchas two, three, or four times the gripping power. With this kind of grippingpower, there is no more need for three or four rings on hard-kickinghandguns.

Signature Rings -- Key Advantages

Prevent "Ring Marks" On The Finish Of The Scope Tube By using precision-made, tight-gripping inserts made of a dimensionally-stable synthetic material, the scope is not scratched or crushed whichoften occurs with conventional rings. Quality scopes cost in the hundredsthese days. For about $5 more at dealer cost, you can provide a mountingsystem that will treat the new scope with the care and performance itdeserves. With Signature Rings, when the scope is mounted in differentpositions or moved to another firearm, it still looks good as new -- alsoincreasing the resale value of the scope.

Grip The Scope BetterConcentric synthetic inserts gripping the scope tube are made of amaterial slightly softer than the hard-coat anodized scope tube. Theinserts are manufactured by a process that nearly eliminates tolerancesand produces incredibly consistent parts. The inserts are slightly widerthan standard BURRIS steel rings which increases the potential surfacearea contact by 12%. (Burris standard rings already provide 10% to30% more gripping area than many other popular brands.) With theinserts pivoting on all axis, they grip with the entire surface area ratherthan only a portion of a standard steel ring. Add it all together -- thematerial, the precision, the surface area, the insert-to-scope mating --and you get the most positive, nearest to 100% ring-to-scope grip as ispossible -- and you need not spend a second on tedious ring lapping.

Permit The Scope To Be Mounted Without Stressing The ScopeSelf-aligning synthetic inserts pivot within the ring housings to eliminateany axial misalignment and induced stress on the scope. Hunters andcompetitive shooters alike can experience temperatures from 10degrees to over 100 degrees, and at even greater extremes. As analuminum scope and steel firearm expand and contract with temperaturechanges, the scope will maintain point-of-impact integrity much better ifit is mounted stress-free.

Choice 1, Adjust the Front RingNotice that the Offset Insert is rotated 45 degrees and the "fat or +"portion of the insert forces the scope to point in the same direction asthe point of impact. What you are doing in this case is moving the frontof the scope up and to the right in order to make the it point toward thepoint of impact. You simply put the -10 insert direclty toward the pointof impact and +10 insert directly away from the point of impact. Fireanother group. If your group is within 3" of your desired point of impact, use your scope's internal adjustments for final sighting.

Choice 2, Adjust The Rear RingIn this case, you are moving the rear of the scope down and to the leftin order to make the scope point up and to the right. You simply putthe +10 insert direclty toward the point of impact and -10 insert direcltyaway from point of impact.

Signature Pos-Align Offset Inserts --Key AdvantagesPermits The Scope to Perform To Its Full Optical PotentialThe best optical performance is directly though the center of any lens.In a riflescope with multiple lenses, this is even more important. Whena scope is adjusted for windage and elevation, it transmits the paths oflight elongated, and at a point off of the optical axis.

Elongating the light paths causes the focus to shift slightly and resultsin some unexpected parallax. It also causes chromatic aberration whichlessens the sharpness of the image.

All optical assemblies deliver the best image quality when light passesdirectly through the center (optical axis) of the lens system. When thelenses are moved off-center, as in the case of correcting for windageand elevation, optical quality suffers. Signature Pos-Align Offset Insertscorrect scope-to-bore misalignment to an average of within 2.5 minutesof angle without moving the optically-centered len system.

Allows For Maximum In-The-Field AdjustmentCentering the scope externally with the bore prior to using any internaladjustment leaves maximum adjustment potential for practical use, rather than just for sighting-in.

Eliminates The Need To Shim Bases Shimming bases is done to achieve horizontal-axis scope-to-bore align-ment and stress-free mounting. It's long been an art left to skilled gun-smiths and utilized mostly on precision rifles. Shimming and lapping aredone to compensate for any misalignment due to tolerances in manufac-turing the firearm's receiver, receiver to barrel fit, mounting screw holes, bases, and rings. The Signature Pos-Align Offset Inserts provides the benefits of bothshimming and lapping at a fraction of the time and expense. Pos-AlignOffset inserts +/-.005", +/.010", and +/.020" can correct even grossmisalignment -- as much as 40" of correction at 100 yards. The offsetinserts may be rotated at any angle to correct for misalignment.

Adds Windage and Elevation Adjustments To The RingsNow you can correct for both windage and elevation within the ringsthemselves -- especially useful on Ruger and Weaver-style systems.
