Teaching Listening Skills : Improving My PracticeIntroductionI improved my teaching practice by encouraging my students to care about listening,at home and at school.As a result,my third graders in a northwest New Mexico school gained skills that will take them far.Focus of Investigation:If I teach effective listening skills ,what will happen to my students behaviour,particularly in regards of following directions?I recognized that I could not expect all students to display listening behaviours in exactly the same way.Literature ReviewThird Grade Listening Skills (McMahon,2002), displayed stories the teacher read aloud with accompanying pictures students had to color as the teacher recited directions based on the story. I love these exercises but they didnt tell me how to help my students follow directions better.Literature ReviewReading becomes very important in third grade, because children read more to learn and begin to read for pleasure (Myers, 2006).As they moved through the grades, children read longer books with expression and comprehension (Myers, 2006).2. RESEARCH OBJECTIVE & QUESTIONHelp students to become keen listeners.Aim to enhance every childs direction following abilities.PARTICIPANTS22 grades third grade students of the eight and nine years olds 54% were Anglo,32% were Native American and 14% were Hispanic.10 of the children were boys,12 were girls.Lived in mostly middle-class neighbourhood in a town where the median household income.RECOMMEND INTERVENTIONInjection listening lessons into my reading instruction.DATA COLLECTIONPretest : Qualitative test -> 15 Instruction,2 out of 22 were submit the test.Survey -> Anonymous listening /Home-listeningJournal: PromptsQuizAssess (self)Interview
