create and schedule assignments to your learners.

Assignments through Learning Exchange

Traditionally, conducting homework meant assignments creation, print, circulation, collection and grading -

essentially, cutting into productive time. You have had to juggle all these operational activities with

creativeteaching processes. However, now with iON Learning Exchange, you can focus on creativity and cut down

on the effort and time required for administering assignments and homework to students.

Create and upload homework online

To create an assignment

1. Go to Manage Coursesand then the Particular Course Template/Course Batch

2. There from the drop down atCourse Tools, select Activities

3. Then click Assignment and then click Create Now

4. Select Assignment Activity type from list of activities and click Create Now. Following screen is displayed.

5. You will need to fill in the following details sought in the “Create Assignment” screen

Title– Give a short title to the Assignment

Description Of The Activity – Give a short description about this assignment. Apart from

just text, you can also give links, upload image or flash files as well.

Map Activity to Syllabus– Allows you to map assignment to a topic in course syllabus

units

Assign Marks to this Activity– On clicking against it, you can give marks to assignment

and it will be evaluated

Total Marks and Pass Marks – Give the total marks this assignment is to be evaluated

for and the pass marks required. This helps you evaluate the assignment

Mode of Submission– Choose whether you wish to create an online or offline

assignment.

o For an Online assignment responses are submitted by learners in LX.

o For an Offline Assignment, assignment questions are displayed online,

responses are submitted in hard copy.

Online Submission Formatgives you following options:

o Online Text to allow learners to type answers on LX screen

o File Upload to allow students to create assignment responses in files offline and

upload files for evaluation.

o Both Online Text & File Upload to allow students to type answers online or

offline as required.

Set time limit for writing Online Text – This checkbox allows you to set time limits for

writing Online text when you choose Online Text option. You can specify allowed

Duration.

Set Allowed Number Of Attempts – Use this to specify allowed number of attempts for

assignment

Display Terms & Conditions To Participants– You can click Yesyou want learners to

accept some terms. Click No if you have no terms to accept

Upload File – Allows you to select and upload the file having assignment questions to

create the assignment.

Click Save to save the assignment activity.

Click Save and Schedule to save the assignment activity and open delivery control for

scheduling the activity.

Your Assignment is Created!!

Map the homework with your lesson plans With assignment created, you can map it as shown in earlier section and then schedule or reschedule as required:

1. Go to Manage Courses>> Particular Course Template/Course Batch >>Course Tools>>Activities.

2. ClickSchedule/Modify in status column to modify schedule for activity in delivery control.

3. Select the Syllabus Item where homework is mapped, and click Share and Schedule.

Or, Click Activate Now to make the content active and select duration.

4. Select the schedule from Schedule Activities dropdown as:

Field Description

Inactive Topic/Activity is not accessible to learners.

Active Topic/Activity is accessible to learners. To make the content unavailable you will have to manually select schedule as Inactive.

Expires After Topic/Activity is accessible to learners until the date specified in End Day. After the End Day, content topic/activity will become Expired.

Available between Topic/Activity is accessible to learners between dates specified in Start Day and End Day.

Note: Specify Start Day and End Day values in digits only. The Start and End days for schedule

are calculated from Course Batch Start Date. For Example, if for a topic Start day is specified as 7

and end day is specified as 10, then the topic will be available from the 7th day of course start

date until 10th day.

5. Select Send Notificationcheckbox to send email and sms notification to learners about the

assignment.

6. Click Save.

Announce the homework to learners

To send announcement about the homework to learners:

1. Go to Delivery Control of course batch.

2. Select assignment node from Syllabus and click Share and Schedule.

3. Update schedule if required and select Send Notification checkbox to send email and sms

notification to learners about the assignment.

4. Click Save. Notifications are sent to learners.

Review and grade homework submissions in minutes

To view participant stats details: 1. Go to Manage Courses>> Particular Course Template/Course Batch >>Course Tools>>Activities.

2. Click Participant Stats in given in Actions column

3. Select from following to perform an action:

Screen Element Action

Publish status of an individual learner.

View feedback comments of an individual learner submitted earlier.

Download template to update marks, status and feedback comments for learners in bulk.

Upload the template updated with status and feedback comments for learners in bulk.

Select learners and add comment for learners in bulk.

Publish status and comments for selected learners for learners in bulk.

View Activity log.

Deactivate activity.

Download Assignment files submitted by participants for evaluation.

To upload new marks/overwrite activity grades: 1. Go to Manage Courses>> Particular Course Template/Course Batch >>Course Tools>>Activities.

2. Click Upload Marks/Grades in Column

3. Click Download Sample Template, to download the template.

4. Update the details and marks in the template.

5. Click Select File; select the updated template to upload.

6. Click Submit.

Provide the option of online or offline homework submissions To provide option to learners to submit online or offline homework submissions, select from following available configurations while creating assignments in Create Assignment screen:

1. Select Mode of Submission to create an online or offline assignment. For an Online assignment

responses are submitted by learners in LX. For an Offline Assignment, assignment questions are

displayed online, responses are submitted in hard copy.

2. Select Online Submission Format for an online assignment. Select from following:

Online Text to allow learners to type answers on LX screen, you can also set time limits

for writing Online text by selecting Set time limit for writing Online Text checkbox and

specifying allowed Duration.

File Upload to allow students to create assignment responses in files offline and upload

files for evaluation.

Both Online Text & File Upload to allow students to type answers online or offline as

required.

Provide personalized feedback to learners

To share personalized feedback with learners: 1. Go to Manage Courses>> Particular Course Template/Course Batch >>Course Tools>>Activities.

2. Click Participant Stats in Action column

3. Click Evaluate in Actions column to evaluate assignment for a learner.

4. Click Evaluate to submit score and feedback comments.

a) Specify Score and Feedback comments.

b) Select Publish Score to display score to learner.

c) Select Notify by Email to send email notification about evaluation of assignment.

5. Click Exempt &Close To Exempt a learner from assignment evaluation.

6. Click Reject & Retry to mark assignment to a learner for re-attempt.

7. Click Reject & Close to reject assignment submission.

Map grades to the assignments To map grades to activities:

1. Go to Manage Courses>> Particular Course Template/Course Batch >>Course

Tools>>Activities.

2. Select the grades for activities in case where activities have different grading schemes or

few of the activities have to be considered for grading.

3. Click Save.
