Relevant global Drivers and ChallengesThe challenge of overpopulation - 9.6 bln people in 2050 - 60% more food production globally in 2050The challenge of urbanisation - in 2050 - 70% of population is living in urban areasEquivalent of building a new city for one million people every week in the next 35 yearsThe challenge of beating malnourishmentChanging dietsIncrease in obesitas & chronic diseasesIncrease in ageing population
European & global targets & initiatives FLWSDG 12.3:By 2030, halve per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest lossesEC Circular Economy Package Target = SDG 12.3

FUSIONS definitional framework Food waste: Any food, and inedible parts of food, removed from the food supply chain to be recovered or disposed to B3-B11,describing different end of life treatments
Based on this the FUSIONS definitional frame work was developed. Specifically: The frame work only covers the food supply chain, when it is ready for harvest and slaughter or caught in the net . Wether it is food waste it is based on its destinations.
So the FUSIOSN definition in its most simple format boils down to :Food waste: Any food, and inedible parts of food, removed from the food supply chain to be recovered or disposed to B3-B11,describing different end of life treatments

REFRESH is funded by the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme of the European Union under Grant Agreement no. 641933. The contents of this document are the sole responsibility of REFRESH and can in no way be taken to reflect the views of the European Union
The REFRESH ProjectA central ambition of the REFRESH project is to develop a Framework of Action model that is based on strategic agreements across all stages of the supply chain (backed by Governments), delivered through collaborative working and supported by evidence-based tools to allow targeted, cost effective interventions. Success will support transformation towards a more sustainable food system, based on Circular Economy principles, benefitting Europes economy, environment and society.

PseudocodeAlgorithmSeries of structured steps / logic
Advisor led system which tests scenarios for intervention - simulation / behavioural / economicAimed at identifying prevention opportunities
Does incorporate outputs from other WPs if mathematical / logical (e.g. combase bio-degrading of product)Does not incorporate guidance documents / non mathematical tools these will go in the library and be referenced or signposted from the DSS (e.g. Feedback guidance tool on animal feed legislation).
Will require input and maintenance beyond the life of Refresh the best tools do.
Will require consultation with PWP members on what scenarios and products they want to test.
Q: What is the entry point for the DSS advisor or CoE search?
