Biomedical Science is the application o natural sciences principles

to medicine, be it or research, health observation or treatment.

It involves examining the human body, organs, tissues, cells, genes

and molecular interactions in an eort to improve health and prevent

or cure diseases. A broad eld, biomedical science includes the

study o many areas, ranging rom immunology to biomedical

instrumentation and technology. The growing sophistication o

illnesses and treatments in the 21st century has made biomedical

science a key driver in modern medicine.

Taylors Bachelor o Biomedical Science (Hons) is a 3 year

programme that exposes students to the latest inormation and

technology in medicine, health sciences and biomedical science

research. They will explore a number o essential topics in depth,

which include anatomy, biochemistry, clinical chemistry, genetics,

    immunology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, physiology

and legal, social and ethical issues. The programme will also equip

students with skills in research methodology, molecular techniques

    and clinical lab diagnosis management.

    Graduates o the biomedical

    science, biotechnology and ood

    science & nutrition programmes

    will enjoy diverse and rewarding

    career opportunities across a

    range o industries and sectors.

    Among them are healthcare, ood

    services, agriculture, environment,

    education and government.

From identiying inectious microorganisms to producing

biouels rom crops and creating new ood favours, graduates

in these elds will actively research and develop products and

solutions that save lives and improve our world.

Types o work you can do include, but are not limited to:

Scientists Industrial ResearchThey research and explore chemical processes perormed by living organisms, such as

cell development, breathing and digestion. Their studies and tests are crucial in developingmedical, agricultural, ood science, pharmacological, industrial, environmental and other

    practical applications.

Clinical Laboratory TechnologistsThey use sophisticated diagnostic equipment and computers to perorm all types o medical

tests and analyse results or hospitals, clinics, blood banks and more.

Biomedical ScientistThey combine their knowledge o bio logy and medicine with scientic technology to

create devices and procedures that solve health-related problems and assist in examining

biological systems; or example, imaging systems, articial limbs and cochlear implants.

GeneticistsThey examine genes to discover how they interact, evolve and duplicate. Through their

research, they can prevent and diagnose diseases, produce better crops and livestock

and solve crimes based on DNA samples. Areas o specialisation include medical genetics,

animal and plant breeding and orensics.

MicrobiologistsThey investigate various microbes to discover how they aect humans, animals, ood supply

and the environment. They usually specialise in one o several areas, such as immunology,
