NEWSLETTER “Learning Today For a Better Tomorrow”
Dear Parents,
We have had another busy fortnight at our school. Our Grade 1 students had a terrific
excursion to the Werribee Zoo. I had the pleasure of tagging along. Our Grade 6 stu-
dents are preparing for Graduation and are enjoying doing their Earn and Learn unit
of work. Lastly our Foundation students had their Grandparents lunch. There was a
big turnout with lots and lots of yummy food!
School Banking
The last day for school banking is December 1st. School Banking will then resume in
February 2017. I would like to thank our parent volunteers for their help every Thurs-
day.
2017
Planning for 2017 is in full swing. If you are moving out of the area can you please
let the school know as soon as possible?
Christmas Raffle
Our Christmas raffle tickets have gone home this week. It would really help the
school if you are able to support the school by selling your allocated raffle tickets and
by donating items such as food or unopened toys to assemble hampers to be used as
raffle prizes. All money raised will be allocated towards continual development of
our CAT space. We plan to purchase equipment for our radio station to begin in
2017. I would also like to purchase robotics for the CAT space to be used as part of
our coding curriculum in 2017. Exciting times ahead!
Hats
Just a reminder that all students are required to wear hats in Term 4. School hats can
be purchased in the office area or our school uniform shop which is open every
Wednesday morning from 8.30– 10.00.
Casual Clothes Day
Our last casual clothes day of the year will take place on Thursday December 1st. We
ask students and teachers to dress up to in Christmas colours or theme. All money
raised will be used to buy presents for the underprivileged through the Wishing Tree
appeal. This is a great cause that our school has supported every year.
SCHOOL VALUES: TOLERANCE, EXCELLENCE, RESPONSIBILITY, INCLUSION, HONESTY,
CARE & RESPECT.
Topmarks in Numeracy Problem Solving
This year, as part of our continued focus on problem solving, we entered two teams into the Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiads (A.P.S.M.O). The teams worked really
hard to complete monthly problem solving competitions against other schools in Australasia and achieved some first class results. We are really proud of their achievements and progress and
we'd like to congratulate both teams for representing our school in such fine style.

Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal
Thursday 1st December
Christmas Casual Clothes Day!
Taylors Lakes Primary School’s last fundraiser for the year will be for
The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal, which raises money for the less fortunate children who do not wake up expecting presents under their trees at Christmas time.
WHEN:
On Thursday the 1st of December we will be having a Christmas themed casual clothes day. If you would like to participate please bring a gold coin donation on that day.
WHAT TO WEAR:
Feel free to dress up as one of your Christmas favourites such as Santa, a Christmas elf, Frosty the Snowman or even Rudolph! If you don’t have a costume you can wear Christmas themed colours such as red and green or add tinsel or reindeer ears or a Santa hat to your normal casual clothes.
ALSO:
In conjunction with the Christmas themed casual clothes day, moneyboxes will be delivered to your child’s classroom on Monday, 21st of November. These are for your child to put in loose change and sponsor their classroom teacher to wear a cra-zy outfit on the day. Every donation, small or big, can make a difference so don’t for-get to top up your moneyboxes. We can’t wait to see all the crazy costumes the stu-dents (and some teachers) will be wearing.
THE STORY BEHIND THE WISHING TREE APPEAL:
If you are interested in more information about the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal, read ‘The Kmart Wishing Tree Story’ which is a recount of the power of the Appeal and the joy it brought to one particular boy, as told to two TLPS teachers from a Salvation Ar-my volunteer.
Many thanks,
The Student Leadership Team.

Why do we support the Wishing Tree Appeal?
As we all know, the Wishing Tree Appeal and Salvation Army supports families and people in need during Christmas time by providing them with presents that they could not afford themselves.
One particular family was so poor that they didn’t even have a home to live in on Christmas day, let alone presents to open in the morning. So fortunately, the Salva-tion Army sent one of their volunteers to the shelter they were staying at to give their son one of the presents that had been donated.
He was 5 years old and looked very sad but when he saw the bright shiny package his eyes lit up. He thanked the volunteer for the present and gently held it so as not to damage the paper.
When the volunteer asked him if he was going to open it, the boy looked at him con-fused.
Again, the volunteer asked him why he hadn’t opened it.
The boy still looked confused.
Quickly the boy’s parents stepped in and explained he’d never received a wrapped present before and he didn’t know what to do. The volunteer was so sad to hear that a sweet little boy at the age of 7 had not ever received a gift before, so he carefully started unwrapping the present to show the boy what to do.
Eventually, the two of them had taken off all of the wrapping without making a single rip in the paper and when the boy saw the small remote controlled car underneath, he burst into tears of happiness and gave the volunteer the tightest hug he’d ever had.
