TRAVELLING TO GREAT LAKE TAUPÖ
Conveniently located within easy driving distance of 6 of New Zealand’s major cities, (and approximately half way between Auckland and Wellington) the Great Lake Taupö Region offers a central and economical travel option for your conference or event.
The Taupö Domestic Airport Terminal is just 8 kms from town and can cater for aircraft seating up to 80 passengers. Most scheduled flights carry approximately 20 passengers, and offer direct flights from both Auckland and Wellington with Air New Zealand Link. Timetable changes are made regularly and bookings can be made on www.airnz.co.nz. Alternatively, charter flights may be more convenient and surprisingly cost effective.
Rotorua Airport, approximately 1 hour drive from Taupö also offers a wider domestic timetable as well as direct flights from Australia with Air NZ, and local coach operators can offer informative and enjoyable tour style transfers direct to Taupö.

The latest attraction in Taupö is the spectacular new Lava Glass sculpture garden. Set in an acre of manicured grounds now lie more than 500 glass sculptures. The board walk takes you on a 400m amble around ponds, through fields of glass flowers, or you can sit and enjoy the water tumbling down the 15 piece waterfall. Also check out the giant kaleidoscopes, glass birds and giant spheres. The glass sculptures have been created by Lynden Over and his team of accomplished glass workers. The pieces are the biggest pieces of glass ever blown in New Zealand and are a colourful delight.
In the studio you can watch Lynden and his team at work producing all sorts of creative designs changing daily. Move on to the gallery where you will find the full range of Lynden's spectacular art glass. The gallery staff can explain the different features of each piece as well as explaining the fabulous volcanic series with its 12 different colour combinations representing New Zealand's striking scenery. Lava Glass Café is another recent addition to Lava Glass. Lava Glass Café is the perfect place to relax with a coffee or a wine, and sample the delectable menu cooked with passion by our on site chef.
THE KAUPAPAKai Waho is an experience that is shared in the true essence of ‘manaakitanga’ with all visitors interacting with all activities. We at Kai Waho have helped in a supporting role with our activities of pre-European cooking methods. Working with numbers of up too 20 an ideal number where every member has a set of tasks that need to be completed in order for the whole group to enjoy the end result, a Mäori feast.
