Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR)

• The voluntary compliance of social and ecological responsibility of companies is called Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

• CSR is a form of corporate self regulation integrated into a business model.

• Corporate social responsibility is basically a concept whereby companies decide voluntarily to contribute to a better society and a cleaner environment.

• The first initiative is taken in mid of 1960’s-1970’s after many MNC introducing the term stakeholder.

• Companies have explored that their impact on the economy, with the help of CSR activities.

• The fight against poverty, the development of education, as well as the conservation of the environment are not existent in most of the Indian enterprises.

• Approximately 93% of the Indian workforce is employed under CSR activity

• CSR can not only refer to the compliance of human right standards, labor and social security arrangements, but also to the fight against climate change, sustainable management of natural resources and consumer protection.

TATA Motors Initiative:-

• A signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, Tata Motors is committed to Corporate Social Responsibility.

• TATA community initiatives span key areas of education, healthcare, environment conservation and employability.

• Sustainability of the organization focuses on creating value in the long term, monitoring economic, social , environmental and intangible performances and paying attention to stakeholder satisfaction.

• Tata Code of Conduct (TCoC), has a commitment towards conducting business in a responsible manner.

Works:Different types of works are considered under the CSR activities of TATA motors in diversified segments.

• Vidhyadanam-Education • Arogya-Health

• Koushalya employment-Employability• Vasundhara-Environment

Vidhyadanam:• By combining with NGO’s in different rural areas, especially in

places where TATA plants situated, adopted some government schools and provide infrastructure, books, benches, food, etc along with the faculty to educate children.

• By vidhyadanam program 14,761 of total population is covered .

Arogya:• Special focus on maternal women and child health, care was

taken through prevention and curative health services facilities in schools & communities.

• A mobile ambulance use to go all the places where TATA motors CSR used to take place and conduct health checkups for the people around.

• Total population of 2,95,075 was covered.

Koushalya Employment:• By create opportunities of self employment through skills building

and income generation activity. • Total population of 6,760 was covered under koushalya

employment.

Vasundhara :• To enhance the green revolution through extensive tree

plantation.Over 175242 saplings have been planted.• To create sustainable water resources by creating more number of

water storages like check dams.• By Providing access to the safe drinking water and sanitation

facilities in schools & communities• To promote alternative sources of energy. • A population of 15,595 was covered under the project.

Other Initiatives:-

• Other initiatives taken by Tata is by giving training to drivers on road safety measures.

• Also some international activities are done by TATA motors.

• In Spain and some other parts of Europe, to make them educate about their culture and heritage, constructions, TATA organized a tour in 5 vehicles of Tata, for 23 days.

Awards & Achievements:• Sanand Plant won 1st Prize at Lakhsya CSR Sparsha

Award 2011, for 2 papers: Community-based Safe Drinking Water Programme and Community-based Innovative Sanitation Program.

• Pantnagar plant bagged the second position in the Environment, Health & Safety Competition 2011, organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Northern Region.

• Pantnagar plant bagged the 2nd prize under Uttarakhand Energy Conservation Award 2011'.

• Jaguar Land Rover received the Platinum Rating in the Corporate Responsibility (CR) Index Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders 2011 Award for Automotive Innovation.

Awards & Achievements:-

• CII Award for Corporate Sustainability Reporting.• Golden Peacock Award for Corporate Social

Responsibility for 2011• Hellen Keller Award' for CSR.

CONCLUSION• Every business house owe some responsibility towards the

society, nation and world in general which provide it with all human , material and natural resources.

• As far as the Tata motors is concerned , it has gone a long way in fulfilling its duty and responsibility towards the society and the nation.
