Theme: Architectural Exploration of Salford Quays

Predicted final outcome

During my photo shoot at Salford Quays, I am going to produce 50 high quality photos of the area all at landscape. The theme is architectural exploration so I’m guessing most of my photos will be of the building but I’m going to try and mix it up and also add some nature is there is any nearby. I am also hoping to go into Manchester City Centre and take some more photos to get more of a range to choose from when deciding on my final 10 photos. After I have taken the 50 photos of the two areas Salford quays and Manchester City Centre I will then pick 10 photos which I think came out best and then start the post production process.

Reasons for selection of theme (including inspiration from the work of others)

Which photographers produce similar images you like – find 3The reason I want to take these photos is because the area Salford Quays is such a busy and iconic place for Salford it has many amazing and different buildings which would be good to photograph. There are also many types of people there ranging from people going to work, people passing through and people are admiring the architecture in the area.

Now moving onto one of my influences for landscape Charlie Waite.

I especially like the colours in this photos which he has taken, some are cold and warm and I like it works really well with how the photo looks. When I come round to taking my photos I am most definitely going to get rich and vibrant colours that

stand out and complete the photograph. His photos are mainly of nature so the colours are quite natural but I’m sure I can influence the style into my work also his work has a deep, calming orderness about them, which is combined with striking light and beautiful colour. Now onto my second photography I was influenced by Luca Campigotto.

This photographer which I have chosen does all types of landscape photography especially cities. He used a slow shutter on the photos which I chose and I think it gives it a special and mysterious look about the photos and this is what I would like to achieve when I come to doing my photo shoot. The photo imaging equipment and medium that will be used and why

The camera which I will be using is the Canon EOS 600D that has a 18 megapixel CMOS sensor which can pick up amazing detail in photos and that’s how I want my photos to come out. It also has a tilt and swivel LCD monitor that allows me to shoot from different positions and still be able to see what I’m shooting. I will also bring a long a tripod so I can get steady shots for example if I’m using a slow shutter speed and want my image to come out crystal clear and perfect.

Techniques that will be used and how they will help convey the visual message

The techniques that I may use when it comes to this photo shoot will be definitely influenced by the landscape photographers I chose above. I’m thinking about going to Salford quays when its dark and taking some slow shutter speed shots because at night the location has many lights.

Salford Quays is an area of Salford, Greater Manchester, England, near the end of the Manchester Ship Canal. Previously the site of Manchester Docks, it became one of the first and largest urban regeneration projects in the United Kingdom following the closure of the dockyards in 1982. It also has another attraction like MediaCity UK, The Imperial War Museum and The Lowry.
