Who is Quentin Tarantino?

• Tarantino is an American film director, screenwriter, cinematographer, producer, and actor.

• His films are known for their non-linear storylines-

• An aestheticization of violence is often used in his films- however, Tarantino does not believe that violence in movies inspires acts of violence in real life.

• Tarantino uses violence in an extremely graphic way- which has been proven to grab the audiences attention however, Tarantino has been harshly criticised for his use of gore and blood- some have found this very repulsive.

• Neo-noir film and Spaghetti Western.

• Music is an important part of Tarantino's filmmaking style. Tarantino said that he would listen to music in his bedroom and create scenes which correlated to the music that was being played.

• Growing up Tarantino was a huge film fanatic and worked in a video rental shop- he would observe what people liked to watch and claims that this helped him with his directional choices.

• Tarantino actually features in a lot of his films- he has around 30 acting credits, and only 20 writing ones.

Spaghetti western- broad genre of western films

- Although the film was a huge success, it was also controversial in many ways- especially for the repetition of the word ‘nigger’ however, in an interview Tarantino responded by saying ‘As a writer, I demand the right to write any character in the world that I want to write. I demand the right to be them, I demand the right to think them and I demand the right to tell the truth as I see they are’

Kill Bill Plot: An entire wedding party is slaughtered during a dress rehearsal in a rural chapel: the pregnant woman in the blood-splattered wedding dress is Black Mamba, better known as The Bride. The assassin, Bill, and his circle known as The Vipers left The Bride for dead, but unluckily for them she was merely comatose.

Four years later, The Bride suddenly awakens from her coma and realizes what has been done to her. She sets off on a ferociously focused mission, setting out to seek revenge on her former master and his deadly squad of assassins. One by one, she kills the various members of the assassin group. She saves Bill for last.

• KILL BILL TRAILER

Uma Thurman was offered the script to Kill Bill, and her role as "The Bride", as a 30th Birthday present from Tarantino, and came up with the film’s opening of her beaten up and wearing a wedding gown.

Approximately US$60,000 of the movie's budget was used for producing swords and sword accessories.

Facts about the movie

On media criticisms of violence in his movies: "Sure, Kill Bill's a violent movie. But it's a Tarantino movie. You don't go to see Metallica and ask them to turn the music down."
