Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2016 All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary Jjayalalithaa has changed several of the party's candidates from the list of candidates earlier announced on April 4, 2016, for the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections. In a statement issued by Jayalalithaa, the party announced that N Murugumaran (to con test in Kattumanarkoil), S Pounraj (Poompuhar), B Satyanarayanan (T Nagar), S Semmalai (Mettur), O S Manian (Vedaranyam), S Kamaraj (Mannarkudi) and A Nanjil Murugesan (Nagercoil) will contest instead of the previously announced candidates in the respective constituency. Earlier, she changed the candidate for Aruppukottai constituency, announcing former School Education Minister Vaigai Selvan as the new candidate. C R Saraswathi, who has been a spokersperson of the party, was announced as party candidate for Pallavaram constituency replacing C V Elangovan. She also announced Rajan Chellappa for Madurai North seat instead of MS Pandiyan. M Shankar (to contest in Thirubuvanai), K A U Asana (Karaikal South) and G Murugaian (Thirunallar) will be the official candidates instead of the people announced earlier. AIADMK is contesting in 227 seats out of the total 234 constituencies inTamil Nadu Elections 2016and 30 seats in Puducherry, and seven seats in Kerala, for the assembly elections scheduled to take place in May, 2016.
