- Annual Deanery Mission Appeal - Sr. Anne from the Medical Missionaries of Mary based in Ireland will be with us this weekend. Sister will speak at the Masses about the work of her religious order, and make the annual Deanery Mission Appeal. Please be as generous as you can in supporting their valuable work through your prayer and financial contribution. The Second Collection will be taken-up to support their missionary projects. The Medical Missionaries of Mary are an international missionary congregation of Catholic women religious. They were founded by Marie Martin in Nigeria in 1937 to bring the love of God to others through a service of healing. They are also known by their initials: MMM. The impetus behind this congregation is to follow Christ, who “went about doing good”, healing the sick and proclaiming the Good News of the kingdom. Members live “that all may have life and have it in its fullness”. The charism (special gift) as medical missionaries places members in the world of health and medicine, for the service of the universal Church. Sisters serve preferentially in missionary situations where the need for human development is great and the people are awaiting the liberating and healing power of the Gospel. Medical Missionaries of Mary make public lifelong profession of vows of chastity, poverty and obedience lived in community. The Gospel is the basis for members’ lives. Like Mary, the model of the Church, each is called to be contemplatives who are active in the world. There are presently around four hundred members from twenty countries who work in Africa, Europe and the Americas. The society’s motto is: “Rooted and Founded in Love” Parishioners of St. Augustine’s are asked to warmly welcome Sr. Anne who will be joining us this weekend. Please pledge your prayers and material help to the missionary work of this great congregation of Sisters.
